Lamplighter- PETER MULVEY/ KRISTA DETOR/ PAUL CEBAR/ HAYWARD WILLIAMS

November 29, 2012 @ 8:00 pm - 10:30 pm

$20

The first in this year’s Lamplighter Sessions. See Lamplighter post.

The marvelousmulveymarathon begins with a magnificent manifest of Milwaukee/midwestern musicians.

Monsieur Mulveilleux Peter Mulvey “The cream of the crop… sings with a clarity reserved for the likes of legends.”

Krista Detor ”is one of the most touching and gifted US songwriters. A darkly beautiful singer and pianist, she creates original, very appealing melodies filled with absorbing and elliptical wordplay… “ The Scotsman Newspaper Of Songwriter Krista Detor’s work, Rolling Stone says, “A Small Miracle….” MusicDish magazine states: “Call [Mudshow] a novel like Richard Wright’s “Manchild in the Promised Land” or the musical equivalent of Akira Kurosawa’s “Dreams”: a collection of short pieces – stories or short films of dreams – that taken together, form a whole, more than the sum of its parts. ” The Boston Herald says, simply, “All songwriters should be this good..”

Paul Cebar Some idea of what Paul is about: “Milwaukee native Paul Cebar is a singing, strumming, and dancing museum of musical culture and a self-styled historian of myriad musical forms. Countless sounds pour forth when Cebar and his Milwaukeeans take the stage. New Orleans, Chicago, New york, Africa, Brazil, Cuba, jump-blues, gospel, jazz, reggae, calypso, soul and vintage R&B are sterting points for something that becomes uniquely Cebar. This mishmash helps reimagine and liven up obscure classics, and the band’s originals present new viewpoints on established styles.” The Onion AV Club

Hayward Williams
“Looking at the bespectacled youth peering out from the album bio, you would never expect the smoky authoritative voice that swells from Cotton Bell. But maybe Williams’ appearance belies his age, this being the Milwaukee singer-songwriter’s third full length album. Williams’ is the voice of maturity and restraint, and by voice I mean not only his deep, resonant singing, but his approach, attitude, songwriting – the whole deal…”  Rhythms Magazine. (Australia)
