JEFFREY FOUCAULT grew up in Whitewater. A longtime disciple of the rich and strange music that sings behind the American veil, Foucault has spent the last decade mining the darker seams of country and blues, producing a string of spare and elemental albums of rare power while garnering accolades across the United States and overseas for a tersely elegant brand of songwriting set apart by its haunting imagery and weather-beaten cool. He now lives in Western Massachusetts.
“Describing Foucault’s music with words like economic, literate, simple, restrained, aching, and raw doesn’t go far enough. There’s a purity and delicacy here… free of pretensions or imitation. He has shaped his own unique style and has a way of looking inward and painting detailed reflections that few can match.” Glide Magazine
Musically sprouted from the blend of American folk, country, rock-n-roll, and blues, opening act Erik Koskinen realizes a sound that is distinctive and fresh while familiar and classic. Koskinen’s albums are a lyrical and musical metaphor of American’s theaters of war, of history, of relationships, and of the reflections in the mirror. Knowing but not didactic, Koskinen channels the ways of Whitman and reverently enters the anthology of uniquely crafted wry songs with the likes of Woody Guthrie and Ry Cooder while speaking as plainly as your neighbor.
The Minneapolis Star Tribune calls Koskinen “the real deal” and “the best country songwriter in Minnesota.”
