Over the years\, he has maintained contact and brought many Wisconsin musicians to Austria\, and or organized gigs for them: Mary Gaines\, Chris Wagoner\, Clyde Stubblefield\, Howard “Guitar” Luedtke\, Peter Phippen\, Randy Sabien\, Chris Silver\, Josh Harty. It’s with great anticipation and joy that Chuck returns to the home country to play at the Carpe after a 30 year absence.

Played on traditional French jazz guitars\, the music is rhythmic\, vigorous\, and elegant. Whether they’re playing a musette waltz from 1930 or an Andalusian inspired original tune\, Ameranouche’s Gypsy Flamenco Swing style is a fresh and highly enjoyable new sound for the 21st century. \nGypsy Flamenco Swing is about coming together and celebrating our shared humanity. SUMMARY:BOBBY LONG
DESCRIPTION:Please call to reserve at 920-563-9391 and send money in advance. \nBOBBY LONG  \nBritish singer-songwriter Bobby Long emerged from London’s club scene with a reputation for creating memorable songs inhabited by hauntingly poetic lyrics. He relocated to New York in 2009 and has since released three CDs inhabited by powerful original material: A Winter Tale (2011)—an homage to his acoustic roots; Wishbone (2013)—a gritty opus that showcases his sorrow-filled voice and his stellar guitar playing; and the latest\, Ode to Thinking\, which applies his varied musical influences to a new collection of compelling songs. Long has also published a volume of poetry—Losing My Brotherhood—with a second collection coming later this year. \nAn extraordinarily prolific songwriter who has at times been compared to his heroes\, among them Elliott Smith\, Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan\, his newly written songs tend to undergo a metamorphosis during their live exposure. “With some songs\,” he says\,“you have to play them out before you record them because they’re not quite there yet. Playing them about 20 times in the right setting really helps\, but you also don’t want to overplay them because by the time you come to record them\, you’ve lost whatever it was that excited you about them.” \nFor his third album\, he’s returned to the basics\, a guy and a guitar\, recalling his heady early days on London’s open mic circuit. In the studio this time around\, he teamed with producer/musician Mark Hallman (Carole King\, Ani DiFranco) with the songs sturdily built around Long’s vocals and guitar. Hallman played bass guitar\, drums\, piano and organ on the recording and worked with Bobby to construct the background vocals and harmonies that complement his singularly plaintive voice. The creative process unfolded during a two-week period last fall at Hallman’s Congress House Studios inAustin\, Texas. \nODE TO THINKING is a solid collection of 11 original songs that suggest the intimacy of his live shows while the songwriting displays a hard-won maturity in its exploration of a variety of subjects. The title cut\, a paean to global apathy and confusion\, opens the recording with intricate fingerpicking on the guitar. From there\, the album traverses all manners of minefields of the heart (“Cold Hearted Lover of Mine\,” “Something Blue\,Something Borrowed” and “Treat Me Like a Stranger”) to the outer reaches of nostalgia and memory (“That Little Place I OnceKnew\,”“1985”). The lyrics of “I’m Not Going OutTonight” unfold like a movie in three acts\, while “Kill Someone” has a story all its own(he tells it during his shows). \nWriting and touring are now a way of life. Long headlines his own shows—known for their irreverent\, self-deprecating humor in addition to the music—and has supported  major artists including Steve Winwood\, Iron & Wine\, Rodrigo y Gabriela and Brett Dennen\, as well as playing high profile festivals like Bonnaroo\, Austin City Limits\, the Dave Matthews Caravan and Bamboozle. \n*****PLEASE CALL TO RESERVE at 920-563-9391 and send a check in advance.

SUMMARY:PETER ASHER and ALBERT LEE- SOLD OUT
DESCRIPTION: Show is SOLD OUT.  Click link below to post in the Discussion section if you have tickets to get rid of or want to acquire tickets someone wishes to get rid of.\n\nWe will open at 5:30 and are serving food.\n\n \n Was a great show when Albert Lee came here this winter with his band\, so we were happy he wanted to come back\, this time as a duo with PETER ASHER.\n\n As one half of Peter & Gordon\, Peter Asher’s voice “literally soared through Carnegie Hall” (Fox News)\, while Albert Lee has been called “the ultimate virtuoso” by Eric Clapton. Influenced from their earliest days as musicians and performers by great American artists like Buddy Holly and The Everly Brothers\, Peter Asher and Albert Lee bring those influences to the fore in their first series of shows together as an acoustic duo.Albert Lee began his career as a touring musician in the early sixties\, and soon catapulted onto the stage with the likes of Joe Cocker\, Eric Clapton\, and Emmylou Harris. Harris said of him that Lee is “a brilliant guitar player. His sound is unmistakable—often emulated\, never equaled. When Saint Peter asks me to chronicle my time down here on earth\, I’ll be able to say (with pride if that’s allowed) that for a while I played rhythm guitar in a band with Albert Lee.” A 25 year run as Music Director of his beloved Everly Brothers coincided with studio and stage work with Vince Gill\, Roseanne Cash\, and also Paul McCartney & Ringo Starr (“The Concert for George”). Even with all this\, he found the time for over 10 solo and band albums under his own monniker. His numerous studio sessions have led to 4 Grammy Awards nominations and two awards. We came to know Peter Asher via 10 Top 40 hits with Peter & Gordon\, whose debut “A World Without Love” topped the charts in the U.S.\, U.K.\, and over 30 other countries. His days as A & R Director for the Beatles’ Apple Records made history\, and he became a legend as Producer and Manager of James Taylor\, Linda Ronstadt and a host of others. He remains the only Artist Manager to be featured on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine\, and his studio work has led to two Grammy Awards for “Producer of the Year”.Theirs is a history of song\, and these duo shows will reflect that history. From the Peter & Gordon catalog\, Peter Asher and Albert Lee will harmonize on “World Without Love”\, I Go To Pieces”\, and more. From Albert Lee’s back pages\, expect the Jimmy Webb penned title track from his new acoustic album\, “The Highwayman”\, Glenn Campbell’s ” A Better Place”\, and the Jimmy Jones/Otis Blackwell classic “Handy Man”. Inspirations to both artists such as the Everly Brothers provide “Crying in the Rain” and “Bye Bye Love”\, while from Buddy Holly comes ” Well\, All Right”. As Peter & Albert tell us stories of the travels that brought them to so many of the intersections of music history\, the two legends bring these timeless songs to life.\n  \n

SUMMARY:FRED EAGLESMITH w/ Tif Ginn
DESCRIPTION:There are many reasons FRED is legendary. \nEaglesmith\, a songwriter’s songwriter\, has a depth that is informed by miles of experience as a true road dog. Fred is not only the star of show but also the bus driver and chief mechanic while on tour\, keeping him and his band on the road. Unlike many of today’s artists\, touring is not something he does some of the time or only in support of a new record. Touring is his life and The Fred Eaglesmith Travelling Steam Show is one of the last full time travelling shows today. Their busy itinerary added up to more than 270 days on the road last year and saw Fred only returning home long enough to play a handful of local shows and to go into the studio to record the new album. \nA typical day in the life of Eaglesmith will find him driving an average of four to eight hours between shows in his converted 1990 Bluebird tour bus. He outfitted the bus with a system of filters and pumps which he designed himself to enable them to run on waste vegetable oil recycled from deep fryers in venues and restaurants along the road. This past year included seeing Fred astonish many local mechanics by changing his own blown bus transmission on the side of a highway in rural Alberta without missing one gig. \nAdding a touch of the theatrics to every show\, Eaglesmith dubbed his band The Traveling Steam Show and they began performing in steampunk-ish outfits a few years ago when he released his Latin-influenced rock album Cha Cha Cha. “It harkens back to the ’60s and ’70s variety shows that were on TV\,” Eaglesmith told the Albuquerque Journal. “It’s a show. It’s a lot more than a concert. I like to pay attention to what’s cutting edge and bring that into the live show.” \nAnd with such great attention to giving the best in his performances both live and recorded\, critics have taken notice. The Bend Bulletin praised Fred as “a singer-songwriter with a loyal fan base: a raconteur known for his funny stories and sometimes funny\, sometimes poignant songs…a figure to whom ‘entertainer\,’ ‘humorous’ and ‘original’ can be applied in equal measure.” And the Los Angeles Times\, in a live review\, noted: “Eaglesmith snarled out lyrics that underscore his overriding attitude that music and musicians ought to be cherished in the here-and-now and valued for the quality of their art\, not the size of their bank accounts or TV ratings.” \nEaglesmith’s songwriting has also earned him multiple International awards and his songs have been covered by some of the biggest names in Nashville including Toby Keith\, Alan Jackson and Miranda Lambert. His music has been featured in films and television scores including those of True Blood and Grimm. Fred and his band have also performed as the musical guest on Late Show With David Letterman. This past year has also seen the launch of a highly successful musical theatre production Dear Johnny Deere inspired by and based on Fred’s songs. \nDespite all of these accomplishments you are more likely to see him playing to 150 of his fans in a small town community hall rather than at a large capacity theatre or concert venue. Likewise it is more probable to hear about his next show via a hand-stencilled roadside sign and to find Fred sleeping in his bus in a Walmart parking lot or local campground over a 5-star hotel. \nFred will appear with TIF GINN. Tif Ginn is a gutsy\, amazing singer and a transcendent songwriter who has spent most of her adult life touring North America playing music professionally. Ginn toured first as half of the Fabulous Ginn Sisters\, releasing 3 critically acclaimed CDs then as part of the Fred Eaglesmith Traveling Show. Now she takes a turn as a solo artist\, fronting the band she has been playing with for the last several years. \nFred Eaglesmith\, produced her first solo record “Tif Ginn” and it was recorded with his road-weathered band at Eaglesmith’s studio in Southern Ontario\, Canada. Eaglesmith used his trademark one-mic approach\, utilizing just one channel\, sending the mono/analog signal to quarter-inch tape. Nine of the twelve songs were co-written by Eaglesmith\, who is himself an iconic Americana songwriter. The songs indirectly reflect the kind of ‘struggle’ that is living in a motorhome and touring for years without much time to relax or regroup. They are songs of single moms\, lovesick fools\, trailer park life\, and abuse. \nEaglesmith’s analog approach yields a rounded\, smoky atmosphere that perfectly suits both the subject matter and the tour-tightened band. The bare\, honest and emotional sound is the real thing and the result is a beautiful yet edgy sound. Stylistically\, the CD runs from sultry\, jazzy country to angry punk\, embracing pop\, Americana and folk along the way. The trademark sound ties it all together delivering a mature and well-rounded product that is at once fearless and remarkably listenable.

His folk-pop music songs have appeared in movies and on television\, and are said to bridge the gap between the modern folk sound and the populist traditions of Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger. \n“Ellis Paul is one of the best singer/songwriters of his generation. And for many of us he is the face of contemporary folk music. Few are as smart\, as literate\, as poetic as Paul. I cannot think of another artist on the acoustic music scene is better loved by fans\, or more respected by his contemporaries.” \nSome artists document their lives through their music. Others chronicle their times. It’s a rare artist who can do both\, telling their own story through songs that also encapsulate the essence of people and places who have helped define their era over- all. Woody Guthrie comes to mind\, and so does Bob Dylan. Bruce Springsteen certainly as well. Yet few others\, for whatever genius they may possess\, can relate their own history to the history experienced by those who find that common bond\, be it in a coming of age\, living through the same realities or sharing similar experiences. \nEllis Paul is one of those gifted singer/songwriters. Though some may refer to him as a folksinger\, he is more\, for lack of a better word\, a singular storyteller\, a musician whose words reach out from inside and yet also express the feelings\, thoughts and sensibilities that most people can relate to in one way or another\, regardless of age or upbringing. The exhilaration of the open road. A celebration of heroes. The hope for redemption. Descriptions of those things that are both near and dear. The sharing of love…\, intimate\, passionate and enduring.
