SUMMARY:NEW YEAR'S EVE featuring ROBIN PLUER with JULI WOOD AND CHRIS HANSON
DESCRIPTION:Come and enjoy a leisurely casual New Year’s Eve hanging out with friends and friendly strangers at the Carpe\, continuing the hygge of this past month here.  This will be a food/music package deal\, and it’ll be a great and fun night of music with this trio. \nThe food: We will be serving delicious cajun shepherd’s pie (basically Paul Prudhomme’s recipe of a really nicely seasoned meatloaf topped with mashed potatoes and julienned vegetables\, but without the excessive heat) served with a green salad.  Those with any special food issues should notify us when placing reservations\, and we will do our best to accommodate.  A dessert course will be served during the set break. \nReservations at least 2 days before are strongly encouraged so that we can prepare the proper amount of food. Doors open at 6:30\, we’ll be serving dinner from 7:00 on. Music will start after 9:30. \nROBIN PLUER is an amazing chanteuse\, a sultry diva with pizzazz and jazzy style-  a multi-faceted songstress who elegantly but playfully delivers a mélange of vintage French ballads with a distinctive twist\, as well as some R & B gems and non-French ballads.  She was a member of the R&B Cadets and Paul Cebar and the Milwaukeeans. \nJoining her will be saxophonist (and singer) JULI WOOD (also once of the R&B Cadets) and guitarist CHRIS HANSON. \n“Last year’s treat was Juli Wood\, a gutsy tenor and baritone saxophonist who also sings with the earthy gusto of an R&B diva filtered through a hard bop sensibility.” Jazz Times \nRobin Pluer – Ms. Pluer is a perennial WAMI Award winner as well as the Shepherd Express’ Best Female Vocalist. She has composed and performed music with Paul Cebar and John Sieger. With Juli Wood\, Connie Grauer and Kim Zick (Mrs.Fun) she created The Rhythm Club to perform an eclectic array of jazz\, pop\, R&B and French songs. Robin collaborated with Peter Buffett\, recording a song for his album\, Songs from an East Side Attic. Robin combines vintage French chansons from the 20s\, 30s and 40s with contemporary songs which she performs each year at Bastille Days in Milwaukee. \nChris Hanson – If you’ve ever watched TV you’ve heard Chris’s music. Chris has been a Producer/Composer for TV and Film for the past 20 years\, including  Sex And The City\, 20/20\, The Sopranos and Desperate Housewives. Chris has been tearing up guitar riffs for 35 years with Wisconsin’s best. \nShould you want to come just for the show\, the ticket price of $25 will include choice of either a drink or the dessert offering.

SUMMARY:STEVE FORBERT- SOLD OUT
DESCRIPTION:STEVE FORBERT \nAs a young man from Meridian\, Mississippi\, Steve Forbert traveled to New York City and played guitar for spare change in Grand Central Station. He vaulted to international prominence with a folk-rock hit\, “Romeo’s Tune\,” during a time when rootsy rock was fading out and the Ramones\, Talking Heads and other New Wave and punk acts were moving in to the public consciousness. Still\, critics raved about Steve’s poetic lyrics and engaging melodies\, and the crowds at CBGB’s club in New York accepted him alongside those acts. “I’ve never been interested in changing what I do to fit emerging trends\,” Forbert observes. “Looking back on it\, I was helping to keep a particular American songwriting tradition alive at a time when it wasn’t in the spotlight.” \nRolling Stone contributing editor\, David Wild\, recently wrote that “now or then\, you would be hard-pressed to find a debut effort that was simultaneously as fresh and accomplished as Alive on Arrival . . . it was like a great first novel by a young author who somehow managed to split the difference between Mark Twain and J.D. Salinger.” \nProducer\, John Simon\, renowned for his collaborations with The Band and Leonard Cohen\, shepherded Forbert’s second release\, Jackrabbit Slim\, to success. Forbert credits Simon with helping him nail “Romeo’s Tune” for the Nashville-recorded album\, and the song became the artist’s only Top 20 U.S. hit. (It peaked at No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.) \nAfter his first two records came a plethora of well-crafted\, unforgettable songs on such albums as Little Stevie Orbit\, Streets of This Town\, The American in Me\, Mission of the Crossroad Palms and Evergreen Boy. His tribute to Jimmie Rodgers\, Any Old Time\, was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2004. In October 2012\, 35 years after his first album\, Steve has released an exciting new one\, Over With You. Its ten fresh but mature songs pinpoint a wide range of emotions that color personal relationships — emotions that most listeners have undoubtedly felt and struggled to understand at some point in their lives. “This is an album that has taken a lifetime to make\,” explains Forbert. “You don’t just pull these songs out of thin air — you have to live them.” \nThough further chart success has eluded Steve Forbert\, he’s continued to write particularly insightful songs and has grown an impressive legacy. He’s received a Grammy nomination\, seen his songs performed by Keith Urban\, Rosanne Cash and Marty Stuart\, and even appeared opposite Cyndi Lauper in her music video for “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.” Forbert continues to tour\, both solo and with his band.

SUMMARY:JIM & VIVIAN CRAIG and FRED CAMPEAU & MITCH THOMAS
DESCRIPTION:Mitch Thomas and Fred Campeau and Jim and Vivian Craig have put together an ukeclectic show that promises to bring a smile\, and maybe a tear or two. \nIn addition to their tight vocal blending\, the foursome stretch out with some instrumental surprises: Viv and Mitch on ukuleles\, Fred on guitar\, banjo\, and Hawaiian resonator guitar\, and Jim on concertina\, guitar\, and bass ukulele (yes\, you read that right). There’ll be old songs\, blue songs\, and some new songs\, written by Jim and Viv. \nFred Campeau and Mitch Thomas have been a team since the early 70’s\, when they met while both were performing around Chicago. Fred plays guitar\, banjo\, fiddle and harmonica\, and was a long-time member of the Volo Bogtrotters. In addition to playing guitar\, banjo and ukulele\, Mitch teaches choir\, theater and uke\, and is a two-time winner of the Wheatland Festival Folksinging Contest. \nJim and Vivian Craig have been harmonizing for almost forty years. When not loosely affiliated with Mitch and Fred\, Jim and Viv perform with Chicago-based Na Mele Aloha\, an Hawaiian music ensemble. \nAny of you who used to frequent the Green Dragon would have fond memories of them all. \n\n

SUMMARY:PETER MULVEY
DESCRIPTION:PETER MULVEY\, ANNOUNCING THE ONE DAY WORLD TOUR\, copied from Facebook post. \n“Two weeks from today\, on Sunday\, January 25th\, I’ll be playing a 12 hour online concert\, streaming through Concert Window\, live from the Cafe Carpe. Starting at 8am\, I’ll play twelve 45-minute sets\, without repeating a song. There will be a few special guests and a few other surprises. Each hour I’ll take one request (voting via Twitter and Facebook) and answer one question from the online audience. This is a “Pay what you want” event.\nALSO\, each hour I’ll be giving a shout-out to a different non-profit\, and both I and Concert Window have agreed to donate half the proceeds with these twelve non-profits.\nThis is for all of you who ask when I’m coming to your town\, and for all of you who live in places so out-of-the-way that I don’t tour there. This is a thank you\, and a jaunt through my songwriting history; a throwback to my long days of busking in the subway\, a chance to be of use to organizations that do some good\, and also\, at heart\, just another quixotic idea\, like touring by bicycle\, or\, frankly\, like setting out on the road to make a life of playing music\, which is what some kid\, some kid I used to be\, actually did\, twenty-odd years ago.\nAND THERE’S MORE: If you live near the Cafe Carpe\, you can show up in person for the last two sets\, which will be a regular ol’gig. Though\, fair warning\, you’ll be seeing the eleventh and twelfth sets of music I’ll be playing that day. I might be fairly ragged. Also I might be levitating.” \nHERE’S THE LINK: https://www.concertwindow.com/283-peter-mulvey

SUMMARY:THE LOWEST PAIR
DESCRIPTION:THE LOWEST PAIR is a quirky\, old-time roots influenced duet\, featuring the high lonesome harmonies of banjo pickin’ songsters Kendl Winter and Palmer T. Lee. They perform both traditional and original music\, often nestling-in somewhere between. Arkansas born and homesteading in Olympia Washington\, Kendl is a solo artist on indie record label K Records and was one of the founding members of the popular string band The Blackberry Bushes. Palmer hails from Minneapolis\, MN and is the front man of high energy festival favorites bluegrass outfit\, The Boys n’ the Barrels. The two met in early 2013 and began discussing the idea of collaborating. Shorty thereafter they hit the road with their banjos and an old guitar. A few months after the duet formed they teamed up with Dave Simonette of Trampled By Turtles to record their debut record “36¢” released on Team Love Records. They are road warriors with a city folk front and back porch sentiment. This dynamic banjo duo is turning heads across the country. \n“Now\, first thing is to say this:\nMuch further out than inevitable\,\nHalloween’s thy game.\nSky King has come and Wilma’s done\,\nUncertain as it is uneven.\nGive us today hors d’oeuvres in bed\,\nAs we forgive those who have dressed up against us.\nAnd need us not enter inflation\,\nbutter\, liver\, onions\, and potatoes.\nFor wine is a shingle\, and a Moore\,\nand a story for your Father.\nAlright.” \nThe Lowest Pair\n-by John Hartford \n
