SUMMARY:WADE FERNANDEZ/ PATRICK KLAYBOR
DESCRIPTION:D. PATRICK KLAYBOR is a singer songwriter with an Earth friendly\, conscience inspiring message\, wrapped in a fun fusion of all music genres style.  He appeared here in a concert for the Sacred Sites Run. \nSoaring from Menominee Indian Reservation roots\, WADE FERNANDEZ  knows how to both soothe and rock. With versatility\, he honors tradition while forging ahead in an ever expanding world of music. Award-winning vocals\, guitar\, songwriting\, native flute & drumming\, all flow from deep within a rich blood memory\, echoing his words\, “Music is a very powerful gift to be returned and shared in a good way.” \n“Your life is all that you’ve touched\, all that has touched you and all that came before you. You only really live it when you learn to listen to its music.” \nBorn on the Menominee Indian Reservation in Wisconsin\, USA. Wade grew up in a house surrounded by dense forest. “I could walk through the trees for maybe 6 miles behind the house and not see another human being. After crossing the road in front of the house\, I could probably walk another 10 miles and once again\, see only forest and animals.” The Menominee Reservation is over 95% forest and the roots of Wade’s inspiration. Wade’s first attempt at playing music came at the age of 5. His dad sat him down in front of a record player\, handed over a “huge” acoustic guitar and said try to figure out this song. It was “Apache” by the Shadows. Young Wade thought cool an Indian song\, but after 10 minutes of having no clue\, he decided to give it up. But then at 11 years old\, Wade decided to pick up the guitar and started a band on the rez with his cousin Quint. Since then he has won several national/international awards and scholarships for music and other forms of artistic expression (including video and writing). Wade toured Europe several times\, played and produced CDs\, and played many styles of music before he decided to go to college and further his study of music. Currently\, Wade has a degree in Music Education with a teacher’s certification\, manages an active music career\, works a GEAR UP job for students on the Menominee Indian Reservation\, is a member of the Menominee Indian School Board\, working on several film projects\, writing a play\, teaches native flute/guitar/bass/rock band classes\, and is raising a beautiful family of 5 children with his wife on the reservation. \n  \n  \nPERFORMANCESAs a well-established performer shows include; The Honor The Earth Tour\, Woodstock ’94\, The Reebok Human Rights Awards (2002 Winter Olympics)\, Ed McMahon’s Next Big Star\, Chicago’s World Music Festival\, Canada’s Aboriginal People’s Choice Awards\, and Germany’s Tollwood Festival. Wade jammed stages with many artists including Jackson Browne and The Indigo Girls and continues to tour. AWARDS & HONORS2010 national Community Spirit Award With the “diversatility” of Wade’s CD “4 the People” he won the 2007 “Best Contemporary Instrumental” and believe it or not\, best “Country” from the North American ISMA awards while also being in the Top 5 for best “Classic Rock”\, “Pop”\, “Flute”\, and “Blues” recording of the year. 4 the People also had Wade nominated for “Artist of the Year” and “Best Rock Recording” from the NAMMYs. The recording even made it into the GRAMMY voting process for “Best Rock Instrumental Performance”\, “Record of the Year”\, and “Best Contemporary Folk/Americana Album”. 2006 Wade won “Best Male Artist of the Year” award from the NAMMYS and was among the Top 5 for “Best Pop/Rock Recording” and best “Long/Short Form Video”.2004 & ’06 nominations “Best Male Artist\,” “Songwriter of the Year\,” “Blues/Jazz Recording of the Year” “Pop/Rock Recording of the Year” “Classic Rock” “Contemporary Instrumental” nominee from the Native American Music Awards (Nammys) and/or the Indian Summer Music Awards (ISMA)2001 “Writer of the Year”\, Wordcraft Circle of Native Writers and Storytellers 2005-6 numerous awards and screenings for Wade’s music video Commodity Cheese BluesMedal of Honor from the Menominee Nation \n

SUMMARY:CHAD ELLIOTT
DESCRIPTION:“Equal parts Townes Van Zant and Woody Guthrie. A remarkably competent finger style guitarist and arguably one of new folk’s most gifted new lyricists.” \nAveraging over 100 shows per year\, CHAD ELLIOTT has been on the road for more than a decade performing a blend of roots\, blues and folk music. He has played across the country and has been lauded as a modern-day troubadour. \nElliott has released an astonishing 18 full-length albums since he began his songwriting career. The most notable being his latest studio album\, “Redemption Man\,” released in 2009. Elliott worked with producer and guitarist Bo Ramsey (Lucinda Williams\, Greg Brown) on this album to achieve its distinctive electrified roots sound. It also features Pieta Brown on the song\, “Same\, Old Way\,” which was the 2009 Woody Guthrie Festival song contest winner as well as a 3rd place winner in the 2009 International Songwriting Contest for the Americana category. Two other songs on this album\, “Redemption Man\,” and “Illinois\,” won Elliott a new folk finalist spot in the 2008 Grassy Hill Kerrville Folk Festival. \nThere’s something in that Iowa soil- (Greg Brown\, Dave Moore\, Bo Ramsey\, the Pines) \nAbove all the Iowa songwriter’s music slips stories about life as he has experienced it through living with the homeless\, love\, divorce\, fatherhood and discovering inspiration in the modern world. \n

SUMMARY:THE WRONG OMAR
DESCRIPTION:The Wrong Omar\, aka Joey Shaheen\,  has been touring the US and Canada\, singing his “sidewalk confessionals of bad choices” with a tongue-in-cheek curmudgeon persona for old souls of all ages. His solo acoustic show follows a string of radio and TV performances throughout the Southeast and Mid-West. Soulful work on the piano leads to a set of guitar/harp and foot tambo songs that can be best described as: “crying tears of joy while making love”. You might also laugh yourself silly with some of his stories. Be warned: you may walk away with these tunes stuck in your head\, and you will be encouraged to sing along at times too. \nThe Wrong Omar presents a night of roots/folk/rock with blues harp\, stories and rock&roll aphorisms.

SUMMARY:SONG SWAP w/ JIM BARNARD/ TRACY BECK/DAVE RAMONT
DESCRIPTION:Another song swap offering a variety of songwriters to sample. \nTRACY BECK performs a range from blues and folk to country and swing\, accompanying herself on guitar and harmonica. \nJIM BARNARD‘s original songs are rooted in contemporary folk/blues.  He provides an entertainment package of warmth\, humor\, finger-style guitar artistry\, alluring melodies and engaging lyrics. \nHis debut CD\, “Artificial Flowers”\, released in 2013 was received with high acclaim.  Jim’s blusey composition\, “Baby Please Baby Me” is featured on the Madison Songwriter’s compilation CD\, “Made at Home”. \nDAVE RAMONT   was born in Illinois one muggy\, August Tuesday with a song stuck in his head. The doctors couldn’t get it out. (He was also left-handed but they couldn’t fix that either.) He grew into a little kid and began listening to lots of vinyl- Simon & Garfunkel\, Stones\, Guess Who\, Dylan\, Gary Puckett. Soundtracks from “The Good\, The Bad\, And The Ugly” & “Jesus Christ Superstar”. Other hobbies included ruminating and kicking stuff down the street. Then he growed up more\, or at least he got taller… \nAfter releasing his first CD “Toaster Reflection” he moved to Austin\, TX for a time and soaked up the thriving indy music scene –playing open mics\, songwriter showcases\, and driving a bakery truck. His songs began receiving some airplay. The Austin Chronicle said “The world could always use another quality singer-songwriter with meaty lyrics\, gritty vocals and a tight back-up band.” \nDave returned North with a tad more twang (and a helluva hangover) and recorded the rootsy\, darker “Scofflaws”. The Illinois Entertainer said “…unlike many simplistic roots-revivalists\, Ramont isn’t afraid to mix things up…gorgeously unexpected accordions and cellos pop up on this wonderfully produced CD.” He continued playing gigs and teaching. And digging ditches. \nIn 2000 he released “Scrawny” and began receiving more widespread airplay in the US (mostly on public and college radio) and Europe. Richard Milne of WXRT in Chicago called it “a delicious collection of distinctly American music.” Mark Guarino of Chicago’s Daily Herald said it was “…the finest collection of songwriting I’ve heard in a long time.” Once again the guitar\, bass & drums core was surrounded by accordion\, cello\, piano\, Dobro\, mandolin\, dulcimer\, crowbar\, lap steel\, horns\, etc. He toured more extensively- Midwest\, East\, South\, Southeast- and became\, well\, sleepier… \nHe borrowed a banjo and co-founded the swamp-billy band Dick Smith with some musical pals. They recorded 4 CDs and developed a hardcore little following\, playing around the Chicago regions and the Midwest. Acoustic Guitar Magazine picked their record “Smoke Damage” (2002) as one of the top 3 indy releases of the year. Dave then stepped away from music for a few years. But a feller never stops thinking about new songs\, nope –even if he wants to… \nAt the end of 2009 -flying in the face of recession- Ramont released a sprawling double CD called “Taw”\, polished his 1967 Gibson J-50 and started playing out again. \nAnd now in 2012 he’s writing songs for a new record\, gigging\, and working with Dick Smith again. And when no one’s looking\, he still enjoys kicking stuff down the street now and again\, yep. \n

SUMMARY:RACHAEL DAVIS
DESCRIPTION:Rachael Davis \nWhat people say about Rachael: \nMary Lou Lord: “[Rachael sings] with the voice of the most beautiful color you’ve never seen. \nSusan Werner: “We don’t have Eva Cassidy anymore but we do have Rachael Davis” \nEddie From Ohio: “With a voice that moving – we could listen to her sing the alphabet all night and that would be enough.” \nEllis Paul: “Rachael Davis . . . has one of those voices that you know will somehow find its way to a national spotlight . . . keep an eye — and an ear — out for her” \nClaudia Schmidt: “Rachael is a bold explorer in the undefined and powerful territory of her primary instrument — her own human voice — and the stories that come through it.” \nDean Magraw (folk and jazz guitar wizard): “People . . . please open your hearts and bathe your ears in the ‘Be-here-now\, soul-on-your-sleeve’-inspired new voice of Rachael Davis!” \nScott Alarik (Boston Globe): “Davis is off to a faster start than any Boston-based songwriter in memory.” \nBen Edmonds (Detroit Free Press): “Davis commands a voice older than her years\, an instrument that is equally sure expressing strength and vulnerability\, and her songwriting is fearlessly eclectic.” (full article) \nBrian Bishop (The Musical Curmudgeon): “This woman is anything but minor league. She has a major league voice which essentially is her instrument . . . You better see Davis soon\, because it won’t be long before it will be too late to say: ‘I saw her when.'” \nMike Hughes (Lansing State Journal): “Her voice and songwriting seem to defy age. One moment\, she’s a jazz singer\, her voice vaulting across ranges; the next\, she’s a folksinger\, wizened and weary.” \nAnn Arbor Review: “Her music is built around her voice\, a shimmering and versatile thing that trips lightly through Ella-esque jazz lines\, growls and belts and glides.” \nJack Leaver (The Grand Rapids Press): “Davis’ music defies categorization. The 10 tracks on her debut run the gamut of her influences\, with minimal instrumental backing built around her versatile and powerful voice.” (full article) \nHolly Figueroa (singer/songwriter): “Another really scary thing as a songwriter is to share a show with someone 10 years or so younger than you who is\, by far\, a better songwriter\, singer\, and performer than you ever were\, ever will be\, or ever thought there could be in someone so young. This happened to me for the first time at Club Passim on December 5\, when I had the good fortune (or misfortune\, depending on how you look at it) of following Rachael Davis. She blew me clean away in about 20 different ways. I think she’s maybe 19. Maybe. She writes these songs about dreamers and drinkers and Mississippi . . . stuff that no 19 year old from the UP in Michigan thinks about\, let alone writes poetic gems about. And her voice . . . like Billie Holiday and Allison Krauss had a love child. Check her out. She’s wicked awesome.”
