SUMMARY:JOHN PARROTT & TOM WASELCHUK with MICHAEL BRITZ
DESCRIPTION:Bringing you vintage swing & country blues- \nTom Waselchuk will be familiar to southern Wisconsin audiences from his work with his Americana band The Dang-Its (1998 to present) and Gypsy swing ensemble Harmonious Wail (2001-2011)\, with whom he toured the U.S. and abroad. He keeps up a busy schedule of solo and small ensemble performances including his newest collaborations with Mr. Parrott and with Chicago vocalist Jodi Jean Amble. Ms. Amble\, Mr. Waselchuk\, and another of Tom’s long-time guitar partners\, Doug Brown\, are currently performing as The Honey Pies. Tom’s guitar work demonstrates equal ease with a range of styles from jazz and pop to country and bluegrass. \nJohn Parrott is a rare species in the vast genus of acoustic guitarists. He plays the archtop rhythm guitar in a style that was common from the 1930s to the 1950s (think Count Basie\, Frank Sinatra\, and Bob Wills). For forty years he’s applied his skills\, sensibilities\, and adult chords to the field of String Jazz\, backing up such luminaries as John Hartford\, Vassar Clements\, and Steve Goodman. John is especially noted for his many years of laying down the swinging pulse for the great jazz mandolinists Jethro Burns and Don Stiernberg. John currently works and records with Milwaukee musicians Chris Hanson\, Robin Pluer and an assortment of jazz and swing artists. \nTogether they present a showcase of 20th century American music in a variety of genres with solidly swinging guitar artistry and more than acceptable vocals. \nJohn and Tom are delighted to be joined on upright bass on this night by Michael Britz. Michael is one of the busiest and well-respected bassists in southern Wisconsin. His legendary virtuosity has graced so many styles and groups\, from the Milwaukee Ballet Orchestra to the legendary Chuck Hedges bands. He has a propulsion and feel to his playing that’s unique and very appealing. This is Mike’s first appearance at the Carpe\, though he thinks he had a lunch here a few years ago. \n\nPlease call 920-563-9391 to reserve.

SUMMARY:MARE EDSTROM & KENN FOX- History of the blues/ Marcus Klein
DESCRIPTION:MARE EDSTROM and KENN FOX  have been playing\, teaching and researching the blues together for over 14 years; and Kenn has spent his entire life archiving 20th century music\, especially its foundation in the blues. They have released six critically acclaimed blues albums on the Wisconsin-based Spiritone label. Mare has been the subject of many feature articles and has received consistent airplay\, particularly throughout Europe\, for her solo album work. Kenn has released eight solo fingerstyle albums as well as two albums with the Midwest Guitar Trio\, and a current album with Celtic band Kellswater Bridge. \nMare and Kenn are passionate about sharing the lore of the blues in their current act\, “The History of the Blues from 1920–1970.” Come and experience the magic of the music\, the myth and the stories of the Mississippi Delta\, and the surprising role Wisconsin played in the early development of the blues. \n“Edstrom possesses a strong voice that can float over a quiet arrangement or deliver a powerful statement backed by a hard-charging band. Her classical training is evident as Mare easily slides throughout her vocal register\, each note delivered cleanly and perfectly executed.”- Blues Blast Magazine \nMarcus Klein opens. \nPlease call 920-563-9391 to reserve seats.

SUMMARY:SORRY-CANCELLED !!! JACKSON GRIMM & the BULL MOOSE PARTY
DESCRIPTION:THE fellows had car trouble\, and can’t make it to Wisconsin We hope they are traveling this way again sometime and can reschedule. \n JACKSON GRIMM marries folk pop melodies with the lonesome sound of traditional Appalachian music. In a region with a strong music culture\, it is no surprise that Grimm’s songwriting is representative of his musical birthplace: Asheville\, NC. \nThe Bull Moose Party was Grimm’s backing band for his 2018 debut album which was hailed “..a basically perfect Americana album” (country.de) and contained “very appealing songs” (thenextgig.nl). While each of the band members demonstrate years of proficiency on their instruments\, what sets this ensemble apart from the others are the vocal harmonies and the band dynamics. Audiences can tell when bands have been playing together for years and this group shows that 10-fold. \nJackson Grimm & The Bull Moose Party bring a perfect mixture of high-energy bluegrass\, beautiful melodies\, & real\, raw songwriting. \nPlease call 920-563-9391 to reserve seats.

SUMMARY:ECCENTRIC ACOUSTIC
DESCRIPTION:ECCENTRIC ACOUSTIC is a trio featuring Ruth Williams on mandolin\, Sandy Stehling on guitar\, and Scott Emmons on bass. They perform a wide variety of music\, ranging from swing era jazz and country blues to more contemporary country\, folk\, and Americana. \nRuth Williams started singing harmony while doing the family dishes with her sister. She currently sings with Milwaukee’s Bel Canto Chorus. Ruth forsook the autoharp for the mandolin some years ago and has been a stalwart member of the Milwaukee Mandolin Orchestra for more than twenty years. \nSandy Stehling began playing guitar as a way to avoid studying while attending UW-Madison. His transcript shows the success of this strategy. The lively folk music scene on campus at the time was a major influence. He has been heard playing as a soloist and in various groups in the Milwaukee area for many years. \nScott Emmons\, a multi-instrumentalist\, is dean of the UW-Milwaukee Peck School of the Arts. He performs in a classical guitar quartet\, plays mando-cello in the Milwaukee Mandolin Orchestra\, and is the director of the New Horizons Band in Waukesha. \nRuth and Sandy have been making music together since they first met some thirty years ago. They have played with Scott informally in various musical gatherings in the Milwaukee area\, and have enjoyed collaborating with Scott seriously for the past four years. The process of combining three individuals’ musical tastes into an ensemble repertoire yields the serious fun that is Eccentric Acoustic. \nPlease call 920-563-9391 to reserve.

SUMMARY:PETER MULVEY/ KAIA FOWLER/ KATIE DAHL/ RANDY SABIEN
DESCRIPTION:We will open at 5:30 and are serving dinner until 7:30. \nTicket sales are through Brown Paper Tickets:  Click on Buy tickets and get yourself some.  \n\nThis is part of the now semi- annual Lamplighter Sessions  curated by PETER MULVEY.  Click on the link to learn what this is all about. \nTo PETER MULVEY\, there is no such thing as a straight and narrow path. At least\, not one that he has any interest in taking. \nA live-wire on any stage\, Peter is an acoustic singer/songwriter/guitarist who\, in fact\, defies this categorization. His ferocious guitar playing whisks him through more tunings than he has fingers in the course of an evening\, as he winds his way from full-throated rockers to deceptively plain-spoken musings. Whether solo or accompanied\, Mulvey is someone who just naturally commands a stage: \n“Peter Mulvey is one of the most accomplished guitarists you’re ever likely to hear… utterly original… it is nigh on impossible to explain him to the uninitiated… his intelligent and sometimes complex songs engage both hemispheres of the listener’s brain… one of the finest\, most complete entertainers… stunning.” – The Irish Examiner \nRANDY SABIEN  Dubbed the past\, present and future of jazz violin by NPR’s Jazz Profiles\, RANDY SABIEN is a regular at Big Top Chautauqua and has performed on A Prairie Home Companion and Austin City Limits. His instrumental skill on the violin\, guitar\, mandolin\, and piano\, in the genres of jazz\, country\, and rock\, is legendary. \nKATIE DAHL comes from rural Door County\, and has earned high words of praise from some of the country’s finest songwriters.\nShe has performed her original songs everywhere from the dusty cliff country of Mali\, West Africa\, to the winding canals of southern France\, to the cedar forests of the American northwoods. The depth and power of Katie’s alto voice\, the literate candor of her original songs\, and the easy humor of her live performances have earned her numerous songwriting awards\, as well as the chance to share stages with such luminaries as Dar Williams\, Peter Mulvey\, Julie Gold\, and Cheryl Wheeler. Katie is also a playwright whose musical Victory Farm premiered to high acclaim in 2012 and has since been made into a live cast album. The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel says Katie combines “old-fashioned populism\, an abiding love of the land and wickedly smart love songs\, all delivered in a rich and expressive alto.” \nKatie travels extensively\, playing intimate house concerts as well as established venues like Chicago’s Old Town School of Folk Music. Richly steeped in the folk songwriter tradition\, Katie navigates the muddy waters between the personal and the public with the skill of a writer twice her age. She is equally comfortable writing about the intricacies of a complicated relationship (without being indulgent or myopic) and taking on the threat of chain restaurants to her own small community (without being polarizing or didactic). \nKAIA FOWLER’s music shows influences from genres that include modern singer-songwriter\, 1960’s and 70’s folk and folk rock\, Americana\, acoustic blues\, and roots music. Her sound integrates beautifully resonant vocals reminiscent of singers like Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell with guitar work that ranges from delicate finger picking to percussive strumming. Kaia took up guitar playing and songwriting at a young age\, and\, throughout her life\, she has poured her observations on life’s struggles\, longings\, joys\, and sorrows into songs. In concert\, Kaia’s energy and authenticity invite listeners to transcend the day-to-day\, getting at the heart of the human experience in the way only music can.\n \nKaia’s music stands out for its lyrical detail and melodic phrasings that take advantage of her wide vocal range.  A review by The Americana Gazette says\, “Kaia Fowler is a tremendous lyricist. Her lyrics paint pictures and her musical notes add the color.” Selections from her 2010 album Seams of My Heart received radio play on Women of Substance Radio. Kaia’s 2015 album\, an EP titled All The Way\, is dedicated to her husband who died of pancreatic cancer\, with sales benefiting the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. A new album\, One Breath\, is scheduled for release in 2019. \nShe was a finalist in the 2012 Great River Folk Festival songwriting competition.

DESCRIPTION:Ticket sales are through Brown Paper Tickets:  Click on Buy tickets and get yourself some. \n \nThis is part of the now semi-annual Lamplighter Sessions  curated by PETER MULVEY.  Click on the link to learn what this is all about. \nTo PETER MULVEY\, there is no such thing as a straight and narrow path. His instrumental skill on the violin\, guitar\, mandolin\, and piano\, in the genres of jazz\, country\, and rock\, is legendary. \nCHRIS PORTERFIELD  says he is “midwestern to the core” and we find no fault with that kind of core.  Chris’ Milwaukee-based band\, Field Report (an anagram of his surname) will release their third album soon.  Field Report was culled together in the studio while recording their 2012 self-titled debut. They suddenly found themselves championed by their former idols: offered support tours by Counting Crows and Aimee Mann\, lauded by the likes of Mark Eitzel and Richard Thompson\, and covered by Blind Boys Of Alabama. \nA CALEY CONWAY performance is a trip inside her heart\, guided by a soothing voice and hypnotic songwriting. But her breezy style and lilting melodies belie a profound depth of musicality—Caley’s songs embrace complexity\, with dashes of dissonance and lyrics that are at once deeply personal and universally relatable. With candor and a disarming wit that that leaves audiences somewhere between chilled and chuckling\, Conway sings openly about sex\, codependence\, apathy\, and cheese.\n\n“Bringing a brilliant songwriting spirit that focuses on melody and earnestness\, Conway’s music is relatable to a wide audience beyond the roots world.”\n– No Depression Magazine\n\nThat complexity is the result of a winding\, adventurous musical path. After dropping out of college and embarking on three years of restless travel (with ukulele in tow)\, the Wisconsin native settled in Milwaukee’s Riverwest neighborhood and cut her teeth in its thriving local music scene. From 2012-2016 she fronted the Lucy Cukes\, a country-tinged collaboration that produced the dreamy and whimsical Discipline Soup EP and culminated in the lush full-length Silk for Life. \nAfter the Lucy Cukes parted ways\, Conway made a conscious shift—seeking independence in a male-dominated industry\, she put all of her focus toward music. She switched to electric guitar\, began performing solely under her own name\, and called on a more fluid cast of players to fit her evolving style. With newfound resolve and increased control over her music\, Caley quickly set to work on the B-side collection Barrels\, self-recorded her Christmas album Heart be Light\, and put together a new band for her next record. \n“With a voice that lulls you into a daydream and lyrics that bring you back to earth\, [Conway] combines sharp wit with warm melodies to form a style distinctly her own.”\n-Breaking & Entering

“It’s hard to imagine you could find a better violin player in the Midwest. Or anywhere else\, for that matter!” \nOriginally from Prince Edward Island\, ROSE COUSINS lives in Halifax\, Nova Scotia and tours internationally. Fueled by collaboration\, she deeply values being a part of multiple music communities. \nIn live performance\, it has been said “her voice draws you in until you realize you are at the heart of the storm.” (Guardian) Rose Cousins does not shy away from the more difficult feelings of the human condition. She invites audiences on a journey in raw emotion – embracing sadness\, pain\, and longing\, counterbalanced by her dry wit and insightful observations that add levity and reassurance that there a triumph for every challenge. \nTo make her new record Natural Conclusion\, she enlisted GRAMMY award winning producer Joe Henry and a cast of brilliant musicians and singers from Los Angeles\, Nashville\, Toronto\, Halifax\, Boston\, Vancouver and Prince Edward Island. The result is what Cousins calls “the most honest and vulnerable thing” she has made to date. \nSo far\, Natural Conclusion’s journey has brought a JUNO nomination for Songwriter of the Year\, a GRAMMY nomination for Best Engineered Album\, Non-Classical\, eight ECMA nominations / three wins (Album of the Year\, Song of the Year\, Folk Recording of the Year)\, and two Music Nova Scotia Awards (Americana Album of The Year and Solo Album of the Year). The album was featured on 2017 year end lists including the LA Times claiming\, “…Cousins delivered an exquisite album that’s easily one of the most distinguished Americana releases of 2017.” NPR Music said “Cousins has a disarmingly fluid vocal tone and an ability to convey the most internalized emotions — disappointment\, grief\, resolve\, forbearance — without an ounce of fuss.” \nBILL CAMPLIN has a career dating back to the Middle Ages. “You might know Bill Camplin as that feisty old gray dude who cooks up a mean bowl of chili and hosts wonderful musicians with his wife Kitty at The Café Carpe in Ft. Atkinson. Think again. Bill is a dynamite songwriter and guitar picker in his own right. We’ve seen him perform in the last few years with people like Willy Porter\, Peter Mulvey\, and Randy Sabien.  Some nights he steals the show.  When Randy and Bill get together\, you can count on hearing some grand tunes and great vibes.”

The Irish music publication Deadly Music! has compared his songwriting to top-of-his-game\, Blood on the Tracks-era Dylan. The Chicago-based music curator Music Means Family said the following:  “An unbelievable talent\, his layered folk ballads are reminiscent of Baez and Dylan\, Guthrie and Prine. There is a deeply satisfying componentto each of his songs – a reminder of home\, woodsmoke\, and the first traces of your breath as winter begins to settle.” \nCombining a wintry longing with the warmth of a familiar folktale\, HUMBIRD stretches between experimental folk and environmental Americana to embrace the unexpected. This music invites a refreshing dissonance into the house\, it leaves breadcrumbs along the path and reflects light back at the stars. \nHumbird’s companion EPs “Elsewhere” and “Where Else” were released in summer 2017. Both collections explore themes of the human body within various environments and showcase minimalist soundscapes\, looping\, and extended vocal techniques to create an otherworldly\, though familiar sound rooted in folk music traditions. \nNow\, moving between intimate solo performances\, improvised duo sets and full band arrangements\, the songs and stories continue to evolve\, shift and flourish. Humbird’s debut full length album is set to be released in 2019. \nArtist-in-residence composer SATCHEL PAIGE adds his heartfelt compositions to the mix. \n \n

There are thousands of miles on her touring odometer and each town is a tangled web of heartache and small reasons to believe. She gravitates toward the quiet stories of ordinary life. A homeless veteran sitting on a bench to watch the construction of a luxury hotel. A woman wondering about the life of the daughter she had to give up for adoption. Someone changing shape\, someone falling in love\, someone all alone. \n“Tivel’s characters are both common and unforgettable\,” Ann Powers of NPR writes\, “She possesses a genuine poet’s sense that words matter more than persona\, or a showy performance. Her images linger\, and become populated with the energy of the real.” \nProducer\, all-purpose studio musician and songwriter SHANE LEONARD  grew up playing jazz with musicians generations older than him\, dropped out of music school to become an English teacher\, left that to study fiddle and banjo with Appalachian elders\, and now calls Eau Claire\, WI home. He can usually be found in a studio there\, hunched over a piano or a notebook\, magnetizing a production team that has attracted national artists such as Anna Tivel\, Kristin Andreassen (Uncle Earl)\, Sean Rowe and others to record new sounds in the North. Shane Leonard’s forthcoming solo album\, Strange Forms\, will be released in 2019. \nJOE JENCKS is an 20-year veteran of the international folk circuit\, an award-winning songwriter\, and celebrated vocalist based in Chicago. As classically trained instrumentalists\, Monique and Chauntee Ross are a dynamic\, collaborative pair riffing on elements of classic and gospel music to create a unique sound rooted in passion. Their sound is soulful and fresh\, a truly unique blend of their eclectic musical background. Their training in classical music paired with a deep love in gospel music has allowed them to cultivate their improvisation skills and use their instruments as their voice. \nPAUL CEBAR Some idea of what Paul is about: “Milwaukee native Paul Cebar is a singing\, strumming\, and dancing museum of musical culture and a self-styled historian of myriad musical forms. Countless sounds pour forth when Cebar and his Milwaukeeans take the stage. New Orleans\, Chicago\, New york\, Africa\, Brazil\, Cuba\, jump-blues\, gospel\, jazz\, reggae\, calypso\, soul and vintage R&B are sterting points for something that becomes uniquely Cebar. This mishmash helps reimagine and liven up obscure classics\, and the band’s originals present new viewpoints on established styles.” The Onion AV Club \nKellen Abston\, KLASSIK  the hip-hop artist and rapper who was scheduled\, had to be in New York.  BILL CAMPLIN will try to fill his shoes. \n

SUMMARY:SESSION AMERICANA
DESCRIPTION:SESSION AMERICANA (Boston) is a rock band in a tea cup\, or possibly a folk band in a whiskey bottle. This band/collective of talented musicians craft an musical experience unlike any other. On stage is a collapsible bar table wired with microphones\, a vintage suitcase recast as a kick drum\, an old Estey field organ\, a pre-war parlor guitar\, a mandocello and all of its smaller siblings\, a harmonica case fire damaged when Jack’s bar went up in flames and graffitied by Depeche Mode roadies\, and an assortment of other instruments that get passed around in this freewheeling modern hootenanny. The anything-could-happen feel of a Session show depends on craft that’s not accidental or easily won; they bring a kind of ease and genuineness to this timeless music\, sometimes presenting the latest batch of original songs\, sometimes reaching back into depths of the American “song bag”. \n\n\n“It’s right there in the name for this ultra-gifted\, rotating collective of singers and multi-instrumentalists. And sprawl is a good word when it comes to the Boston-based group’s raucous live shows\, which were initially built around the community concept of traditional Irish seisiúns. The group\, whose members have played with a variety of acts including Patty Griffin\, Josh Ritter and the J. Geils Band\, expertly blends vintage American roots music styles — from country to jazz to rock — in a rowdy but deft fashion.” – Rolling Stone \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease call 920-563-9391  to reserve seats.

SUMMARY:RAY BONNEVILLE
DESCRIPTION:Acclaimed raconteur RAY BONNEVILLE strips his bluesy Americana down to its essentials and steeps it in the humid grooves of the South\, creating a compelling poetry of hard living and deep feeling. His ninth release\, At King Electric\, delivers more than his trademark grit and groove. Songs such as “The Next Card to Fall” and “Codeine” gleam with intimate narratives of characters reaching for hope and wrestling with despair. Rich guitar and harmonica lines resonate over spare but spunky rhythms\, while Bonneville’s deep\, evocative voice confesses life’s harsh realities. \nJim Withers (Montreal Gazette) describes his sound as “folk-roots gumbo… a languid Mississippi Delta groove\, seasoned with smooth\, weathered vocals and a propulsive harmonica wheeze.” Whether performing solo or fronting a band\, playing electric or acoustic guitar\, Bonneville allows space between notes that adds potency to every chord\, lick\, and lyric. Thom Jurek (Allmusic.com) remarks\, “With darkness and light fighting for dominance… he’s stripped away every musical excess to let the songs speak for themselves.” \nOften called a “song and groove man\,” Bonneville has lived the life of the itinerant artist. From his native Quebec\, he moved to Boston at age twelve\, where he learned English and picked up piano and guitar. Later\, he served in Vietnam and earned a pilot’s license in Colorado before living in Alaska\, Seattle\, and Paris. Six years in New Orleans infused his musical sensibilities with the region’s culture and rhythms. And then\, a close call while piloting a seaplane proved pivotal: After two decades working as a studio musician\, playing rowdy rooms with blues bands\, and living hard\, Bonneville’s lifetime of hard-won experience coalesced into an urge to write his own music. \nRay recorded his first album\, On the Main\, in 1992. He’s since released nine albums\, earned wide critical and popular acclaim\, and won an enthusiastic following in the U.S.\, Canada\, and Europe. His awards include a prestigious Juno\, the Canadian equivalent of a Grammy\, for his 1999 album\, Gust of Wind. In 2012\, Ray won the solo/duet category in the Blues Foundation’s International Blues Challenge. His post-Katrina ode\, “I Am the Big Easy\,” earned the International Folk Alliance’s 2009 Song of the Year Award\, placed number one on Folk Radio’s list of most-played songs of 2008\, and was recently covered by Jennifer Warnes for the BMG label. \nOther notable artists who have recorded his songs include Ronnie Hawkins (“Foolish”) and Slaid Cleaves (“Run Jolee Run”). Ray has shared the bill with blues heavyweights Muddy Waters\, B.B. King\, Dr. John\, J.J. Cale\, and Robert Cray\, and has guested on albums by Mary Gauthier\, Gurf Morlix\, Eliza Gilkyson\, Ray Wylie Hubbard\, and other prominent musicians. He has performed at renowned venues around the world\, including South by Southwest\, Folk Alliance\, and Montreal International Jazz Festival\, and plays over 100 shows per year across the U.S.\, Canada\, and Europe. When not on the road\, he resides in Austin\, Texas. \n“Like gunpowder and opium.”\n— Ray Wylie Hubbard \n“Bad Man’s Blood confirms Bonneville’s stature as of Americana’s foremost singer-songwriters.”\n— Austin Chronicle \n“a master of the slow burn\, the gentle funk\, the infectious rhythm.”\n— The Ottawa Citizen \n“poetic…infectious…Bad Man’s Blood emerges as Bonneville’s magnum opus”\n— All Music Guide \n“an absolute master…one of the most skilled songwriters of that dark slow smoldering yet fiery blues/roots music”\n— FAME \n“Few can ride a groove like Canada-born\, U.S.-raised Ray Bonneville.”\n— No Depression \n\nPlease call 920-563-9391 to reserve.

SUMMARY:MICHAEL GULEZIAN
DESCRIPTION:MICHAEL GULEZIAN (gu-LAY-ze-in) is one of the most highly acclaimed solo acoustic instrumental guitarists of our time. He is a phenomenal technical guitarist with the rare ability to transcend his own virtuosity\, creating music that touches and moves people at the deepest level. He’s been called the musical link between John Fahey and Michael Hedges. Artists as diverse as Michael Hedges\, Willy Porter\, and Henry Kaiser have claimed him as a primary musical influence; young lions such as Erik Mongrain\, Andy McKee\, and Trevor Gordon Hall are quick to acknowledge him as an inspiration. \nIn concert\, Michael is all warmth and humor … and though it’s visually breathtaking to watch him perform\, a concert with Michael is more than a display of cutting-edge virtuosity – it is the passionate communion of master musician engaged with his audience in the mystery of self-revelation\, creating music of atmospheric power\, ecstatic joy\, and haunting beauty.  If you enjoy the artistry of musicians such as Leo Kottke and Michael Hedges – guitarists who amaze us with what ten fingers and one guitar can do – then you will love Michael Gulezian. \n“…uncommonly thoughtful and provocative … sweeping story-like melodies\, multi-dimensional epics\, and heartland hymns.” –\nJazz Times \n“A great guitarist. My kindred spirit.”    – Michael Hedges

SUMMARY:MARK DVORAK/ DAVE COFELL- Cancelled due to weather concerns
DESCRIPTION:Seemed safer to cancel this than to have performers and attendees risk their safety.  We will reschedule for a date down the unsnowy road. \nMARK DVORAK is a modern day troubadour who has never stopped performing\, writing and recording. He has been called “a folk singer’s folk singer” with “an encyclopedic knowledge of traditional songs.” His original songs are described as “wondrous” and “profound.” Though Mark often appears in theaters and on festival stages\, he is also at home in a more intimate setting. His concerts are a mix of the familiar and the new\, traditional folk and standards from the American songbook. He plays authentic country blues guitar and picks great old-time banjo. \nMark enjoys involving his audiences in sing-along songs\, just like The Weavers used to do\, and mixes in his own well-crafted and infectious originals. Mark has a refreshing\, down-to-earth stage presence\, and is a very engaging performer. He sings with a clear\, signature voice\, and he likes to joke around with the folks who attend his shows. SUMMARY:BOBBY LONG
DESCRIPTION:British singer-songwriter BOBBY LONG emerged from London’s club scene with a reputation for creating memorable songs inhabited by hauntingly poetic lyrics. He relocated to New York in 2009 and has since released four CDs inhabited by powerful original material: A Winter Tale (2011)—an homage to his acoustic roots; Wishbone (2013)—a gritty opus that showcases his sorrow-filled voice and stellar guitar playing; the critically-acclaimed Ode to Thinking (2015\, Compass Records)\, which applies his varied musical influences to a compelling collection of original songs\, and the latest\, Sultans\, arriving on March 1\, 2019. \nOf him\, one writer recently wrote: “Bobby Long is a British-born singer-songwriter who wraps his voice around the truth without judgment\, melancholy without tears. His gentle guitar style allows for his plaintive and honest lyrics to crash like thunder. It’s the blues with a solution. There are many comparisons to be made\, but toss those aside for a moment won’t you and leave it to the man\, his guitar\, and you.” \nAdditionally\, Long has published two volumes of poetry—Losing My Brotherhood (2012) and Losing My Misery (2016). \n  \nPlease call 920-563-9391 to reserve. \n

SUMMARY:JOHN STATZ/ KYLE COX
DESCRIPTION:One of the more prolific young songwriters working in the Folk/Americana genre today\, JOHN STATZ has released eight studio albums and performed all over North America (including Canada and Mexico) and Europe\, all in just twelve years’ time. The Boston Globe has called John’s music “electric\, urgent folk; aching\, sweet country-rock”\, while American Songwriter has said that he writes “the kind of songs that float through your mind and stay nestled in your thoughts long after listening”. \nOn his last three albums John worked with some of the best producers in the genre: Bo Ramsey (Lucinda Williams\, Greg Brown)\, Jeffrey Foucault\, and Megan Burtt. For this go around\, John invited Nathan Edwards—a former college buddy who is now a recording technology professor at their alma mater\, The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh—to co-produce an elemental\, heartfelt acoustic record. \n“John Statz writes songs you can’t shake. They follow you around all day and run through your head at 3 a.m. Open hearted\, horizon-line songs.” – Jeffrey Foucault \nJohn Statz was given a guitar by his grandmother when he was 15\, which turned out to be perfectly timed for a teenager who\, after ten years of piano lessons\, had lost interest in classical music and had taken to learning John Lennon and Elton John tunes. It wasn’t until Statz was 19 and attending university in Oshkosh that he began writing songs. The spark lit after attending a show at the storied Café Carpe in Fort Atkinson\, Wisconsin featuring Jeffrey Foucault and Peter Mulvey\, who quickly became heroes\, and\, later on\, friends and collaborators. The first record\, Dusk Came Slow\, was engineered by the very same Nathan Edwards who co-produced Darkness on the San Juans\, completing a circle of sorts between past and present. John moved to Denver in 2010 where he casually gardens in his backyard\, cooks almost entirely in cast-iron cookware\, and reads presidential biographies in chronological order. \nKYLE COX‘s uncanny ability to connect with his audience is the bridge that leads his followers over the troubled waters of everyday life. \nBorn a military kid in the Lone Star state of Texas\, Cox spent a lot of his life moving around\, putting down and pulling up stakes in Omaha\, NE\, Washington\, DC\, and\, around his middle school days\, Orlando\, FL\, where he spent 17 years and pledged his undying allegiance to the city’s NBA team\, the Magic. \nNow firmly pledged to the historic fraternity of Nashville songwriters\, Kyle Cox has the tools at his disposal to build a solid bridge that leads to a long career. And it all begins and ends with just one thing: the song. When asked to describe the feeling he gets when he finishes writing a song and he can say to himself\, “That’s it! I got it!\,” Cox doesn’t hesitate for a second to respond\, “Oh dude\, that’s the best feeling in the world. I love it\, man!” \n\nCall 920-563-9391 to reserve.
