SUMMARY:ANNA STINE & ROBERT BELL
DESCRIPTION:Please call 920-563-9391 to reserve seats. \nANNA STINE is an indie singer-songwriter\, ROBERT BELL is a jazz guitarist and producer. The duo began working together in 2018 on Anna’s debut recording. \nAnna Stine is an indie folk artist creating music that ponders the trials and triumphs that make us most human. Her lyrics and melodies are driven by a soulful authenticity that invites audiences to connect to their own stories. \nAnna harmoniously blends together her love of honest folk songs and haunting jazz melodies\, while drawing upon the influence of powerful female artists such as Billie Holiday\, Bonnie Raitt\, Norah  Jones and Laura Marling. Anna’s experiences as a music therapist have given her a unique understanding of the ways that music can enrapture and transform us\, and she seeks to manifest this through her intentional  presence and performance. In her debut album “Company of Now” Anna delves into the delicate dance of being present in the midst of growth and discomfort. Through songs that speak to both suffering and self- acceptance\, she encourages listeners to stand tall\, breathe easy\, and step from the ground they’re standing on. \nGuitarist Robert Bell is a multi-genre performer specializing in early  jazz. He was born in Milwaukee\, but after relocating to Minneapolis\, MN  he became a key player in the diverse music scene. His guitar work\,  arrangements and producing include features on Minnesota Public Radio\, National Public Radio\, American Public Media and Garrison Keillor’s A  Prairie Home Companion. Robert has performed alongside authors Barbara  Kingsolver and Django Reinhardt biographer\, Michael Dregni. Festival performances include the Portland Blues Festival\, Twin Cities Jazz  Festival\, Washington D.C. Lindy Exchange\, Midwest Gypsy Fest\, Jazz at  Five and Minnesota Sur Seine Jazz Festival with French Gypsy guitar legend Dorado Schmitt. \nRobert has been a featured soloist with the North Carolina Symphony\, Fort Smith Symphony and the Dallas Fort Worth Symphony performing the music of Django Reinhardt. Theater performances include national tours with Troupe America’s A Closer Walk With Patsy  Cline and Minnesota Festival Theater’s Always Patsy Cline. His solo recording Gypsy Tendercies currently receives airplay in the United  States and France. SUMMARY:RIDGEWAY STUDIO ENSEMBLE
DESCRIPTION:Please call 920-563-9391 to reserve seats. \nThe sound of the vibes: nostalgia tinged\, meditative\, romantic\, haunting\, and yet capable of scintillating percussive crescendos! Pair it with lush\, yet laconic guitar comping and underpinning it with a powerful\, melodic bass line and you have the RIDGEWAY STUDIO ENSEMBLE. This instrumental trio has left the studio and has been exciting audiences around Chicago in the last year with performances of iconic standards from the Great American Song Book \, Tin-Pan Alley\, familiar Latin jazz tunes\, and punctuated with Bebop and Modern Jazz excursions\, plus original compositions. \nThe Ensemble aggregates 150 years of musical performing experience\, with Bob Fahlstrom (Vibes\, Piano)\, Matt Levinson (Guitar) and Bob Becker (Bass & Guitar) who have been working and jamming in the Chicago area for 5 decades. \nBob Fahlstrom studied percussion with Ed Poremba (Lyric Opera Orchestra) at Roosevelt University\, and harmony and theory with Jack Hubal\, the great Chicago bebop pianist and teacher\, who convinced him to buy a vibraphone. In the late 1970’s Bob began his Jazz performance career playing drums and vibes with Chicago area jazz artists such as bassist Steve Hashimoto\, tenor Saxophonist Mike Finnerty\, guitarists Akio Sasajima and David Cherry\, as well as jazz groups led by pianist Jack Hubal. He can be seen on YouTube videos of the “Jack Hubal Jazz Show” playing drums and vibes. \nMatt Levinson has played guitar for over five decades\, and studied with the late\, great Chicago jazz guitarist Frank Dawson. He has performed with a wide range of big bands around Chicago\, including Wendell Brenner’s Sidemen\, the Highland Park Jazz Band\, and John McGahan’s Stardust Big Band and Jazz Sextet. From 2005-2016 he co-led a pro-am jazz jam every Sunday night at Big Joe’s Bar in Chicago\, where he and Bob Fahlstrom met. Since 2015 they have developed a repertoire along with Bob Becker (Bass) culminating in the Ridgeway Studio Ensemble. \nBob Becker has been preforming on jazz guitar\, classical guitar\, electric bass\, and string bass for over five decades. He toured as jazz guitar soloist with the Manhattan Pops Orchestra under the direction of Richard Hayman and was the guitarist in backup bands for Roy Clark and Tennessee Ernie Ford. Bob has also performed shows with the Four Lads\, the Ink Spots\, the Harmonicats\, and Chicago’s own Jimmy Damon. He has played classical guitar for the Lyric Opera of Chicago\, Chicago Opera Theater\, and the Royal Danish Ballet. Bob was on the faculty of the Chicago Musical College for eleven years where he developed the curriculum for jazz guitar and electric bass. Bob has performed as a freelance musician\, working in the Chicago area “doing it all” – wedding parties and ceremonies\, industrial shows\, and jazz gigs. He performs as a soloist\, and in ensembles ranging from duos to big bands. \nFollowing their well-received duet performance at a Café Carpe open-mic Saturday a few years ago\, they are returning with a highly polished trio. Come out and hear the collective sounds of 3 souls who have dedicated the largest part of their lives to jazz and want to share the joy! \nPlease call 920-563-9391 to reserve seats.

SUMMARY:SMALL POTATOES
DESCRIPTION:The Chicago based folk duo of Jacquie Manning and Rich Prezioso say it has taken them years of careful indecision to develop a repertoire they describe as “Celtic to Cowboy.” Superb musicianship and showmanship\, award-winning songwriting\, and a strong sense of tradition has made them\, as Dirty Linen Magazine once said\, “one of the most polished\, inventive\, and entertaining shows on the circuit.” \n“make ‘em laugh\, make ‘em cry\, make ‘em think” \nFrom the start\, they’ve called themselves eclecto-maniacs and described their music as “Celtic to Cowboy”. They say it has taken them “years of careful indecision” to come up with a mix of music that ranges from country\, blues\, and swing to Irish\, with songwriting that touches on all of those styles and more. Their four recordings\, Alive!\, Waltz of the Wallflowers\, Time Flies and Raw demonstrate that “indecision” can be wonderfully entertaining. They both sing\, they both play guitars and an array of other instruments. They even yodel. \n“Jacquie Manning and Rich Prezioso combine cleverly witty with powerfully poignant songs\, along with well chosen covers to present an unusually entertaining and involving repertoire engagingly delivered. Prezioso’s song “1000 Candles\, 1000 Cranes” is one of the most outstanding songs of the past 50 years.” Rich Warren\, The Midnight Special – WFMT Radio\, Chicago\, IL \n“They don’t sound like anybody else. I like that. They lay out a blanket and every song is a picnic.”  Warren Nelson\, Big Top Chautauqua/WI Public Radio\, Bayfield\, WI \n“I’ve never been so fascinated by a singing duo. They’re original\, funny\, energetic\, profound\, always respectful of the music but always daring to try new things. When they get their hands on music\, rhythmically and harmonically\, it just takes off. The audience here loves them. It’s a stand-up-and-shout kind of love.” Phee Sherline San Diego Folk Heritage Society\, San Diego\, CA \nPlease call 920-563-9391 to reserve.

SUMMARY:BROOKS WILLIAMS/ Rose Martin
DESCRIPTION:This is Brooks’ first appearance here in a bizillion years.  He lives across the pond now\, so take this rare opportunity to hear him. \nAt the crossroads of blues and American roots music you’ll find BROOKS WILLIAMS. “Setting new standards and a fresh direction for the blues\,” says Blues In Britain\, and creating a “beautiful fusion” (Keys And Chords). Just when you think he can’t sing a blues-ier note\, he sings it. Just when you think he can’t strum a deeper groove\, he strums it. \nBrooks Williams was born in Statesboro\, Georgia\, USA (the town made famous by the classic song Statesboro Blues)\, and did his apprenticeship in the small bars and coffeehouses of New York and Boston\, following in the footsteps of Chris Smither\, Rory Block\, Shawn Colvin\, Maria Muldaur\, David Bromberg and Leo Kottke\, all whom he gigged with from time-to-time when he was starting out. \nWilliams performs hundreds of solo and band shows throughout Europe\, North America and the UK each year and regularly collaborates with an impressive list of fellow musicians\, including Hans Theessink\, Guy Davis\, Sally Barker\, Boo Hewerdine\, Paul Jones\, and Rab Noakes. \nRanked in the Top 100 Acoustic Guitarists\, he’s a mean finger-picker and a stunning slide guitarist. Plus\, “he has a beautiful voice\,” says AmericanaUK\, “that you just melt into.” That voice earned Brooks a nomination for Best Male Vocalist by Spiral Earth\, one of the UK’s most respected roots music publications. \nHe’s no slouch as a songwriter\, and has an impeccable ear for a good cover. “Williams’ original songs are typically sophisticated musically\, and yet sound immediately familiar – a sign of a skilled songwriter”\, writes Down At The Crossroads.  His massive repertoire spans classic roots and blues. Check out his version of Dave Alvin’s “King Of California” and follow it with Williams’ instant classic\, “Gambling Man.” \nBrooks Williams has played all the major stages\, like The Birchmere in Virginia\, The Guthrie Center in Massachusetts\, The Tolbooth in Scotland\, The Liverpool Philharmonic Hall in England\, Meneer Frits in The Netherlands\, Harvest Blues in Ireland\, The Avalon Theater in Maryland\, JazzLand in Austria\, The Stables in England\, and Blues Au Chateau in France. And he gets invited back. \nHe’s played the Fairport Cropredy Festival\, Newport Folk Festival\, Kerrville Folk Festival\, Costa del Folk\, Shrewsbury Festival\, Celtic Connections and the Glastonbury Festival. \nHe’s recorded for labels as diverse as Signature Sounds\, Green Linnet Records\, Reveal Records\, Solid Air Records\, as well as his own Red Guitar Blue Music. He’s learned the studio trade first-hand working with roots music producers like Colin Linden (Blackie And The Rodeo Kings\, Bruce Cockburn) in Toronto and Phil Madeira (Buddy and Julie Miller\, Emmylou Harris) in Nashville. \nPraised by Blues Matters\, fRoots\, Rolling Stone\, the Boston Globe and Mojo\, Williams is at the top of his game. His tour schedule has never been busier. He writes and records at an astonishing pace. He loves it\, and that love exudes from every note. \n“Stirring up soulful Americana\, full-on blues and tasty rootsy grooves\, he really rocks.” (fRoots) \n“Talent\, taste and astonishing technique.” (Blues Revue) \n“We called him back for three encores!” (Blues In Britain) \n“He’s a lovely player\, a lovely singer\, and a great writer. The real thing.” (Martin Simpson) \n“A fret monster who has to be seen to be believed!” (San Antonio Light) \nOpener Cape Cod (with a strong local connection) singer/songwriter Rose Martin performs original and cover songs on acoustic guitar with her rich vocals and a soulful bluesy style. \nPlease call 920-563-9391 to reserve.

Her compatriots included Suzanne Vega\, The Roches\, Steve Forbert and John Gorka as well as her frequent duo partner Shawn Colvin. The New York Times said it was “easy to predict stardom for her\,” but instead\, Lucy got a doctorate in psychology and started a private practice. \nEventually Shawn Colvin lured Lucy back to music\, producing her debut album The Tide (1994). Red House founder Bob Feldman was blown away by the release and signed her right away. Since then\, she has released six solo albums with Red House and released radio-charting albums with the folk supergroups Red Horse (with Eliza Gilkyson and John Gorka) and Cry Cry Cry (with Dar Williams and Richard Shindell). \n\nLucy will have her brand-new record with her. \n\nLucy continues to perform all over the world. When not performing\, she lives in New York City\, where she enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter.

SUMMARY:ANA EGGE
DESCRIPTION:When ANA EGGE got bit by the music bug as a teenager\, she took matters into her own hands\, building her own guitar\, and moving to Austin\, TX to observe\, absorb and take musical risks. The striking depth and unusual maturity of her singing\, playing\, and songwriting got her noticed\, and she recorded her first album\, River Under the Road (1997) with the legendary western swing band\, Asleep At The Wheel. The Austin Music Awards named her “Best Singer/Songwriter” and “Best Folk Artist.” Over the ensuing years and 8 subsequent CDs\, Ana has made good on that promising debut. She has worked with producers Martin Terefe\, Jason Mercer\, Joel Plaskett\, Steve Earle\, and Stewart Lerman\, and recorded full albums with The Stray Birds and The Sentimentals. Now\, in 2018\, she has released White Tiger\, her tenth album\, a new batch of Egge originals of such singularly articulate and affecting honesty and sensitivity\, as to once again deserve USA Today’s accolade\, “[Ana] can write and sing rings around” her contemporaries. \nLucinda Williams called her “… An Exceptional Songwriter…the Nina Simone of Folk”. \nAna Egge grew up with parents who “dropped out\,” choosing to raise four girls in a lovingly cobbled together combination of a small farmhouse on the North Dakota plains\, a bus on the California Coast\, and a hot springs commune in rural New Mexico\, scraping together dimes and hand-me-downs. Ana learned that her life was truly hers to create. “We were always the outsiders\,” she says. “I was taught how to shoot a gun and how to enjoy alfalfa sprouts and tofu. I ran around barefoot and learned to ride a motorcycle when I was 5. I grew up with all the time and space in the world.” Given her unconventional upraising\, it’s not surprising that Ana has since been plotting her own journey\, confident\, fearless\, and uncompromising. She’s been around the horn of life’s experiences\, having forsaken the Great Plains for Sunset Park in Brooklyn\, and gotten married and become a mother\, but she’s never lost touch with the free-spirited childhood and the Western landscape that formed her. \nAlec Spiegelman\, who plays bass clarinet and synthesizer and sings\, will be accompanying Ana. \nPlease call 920-563-9391 to reserve seats.

SUMMARY:MANDY FER & DAVE MCGRAW
DESCRIPTION:MANDY FER and DAVE MCGRAW \nPacific Northwest based songwriter duo Dave McGraw & Mandy Fer voyage even further out to sea on their latest self-produced/recorded release  Off-Grid Lo Fi.  This was recorded entirely with solar and wind powered electricity on a nearly uninhabited\, remote\, off-grid island in northwest Washington state\, McGraw and Fer have ventured into new territory\, both geographically and artistically. \nKnown as a standout electric guitarist and multi-instrumentalist\, Mandy Fer is unafraid to dominate the stage for an extended guitar solo\, defying long-held gender barriers for female guitarists. Dave McGraw’s emotional songwriting riffs on natural elements of the world around him. McGraw spent a decade as a wildlife biologist\, studying endangered birds in remote locales from the deserts of Mexico and the Grand Canyon to the mountainous rainforests of Washington. McGraw and Fer joined forces in Flagstaff\, Arizona in 2010 before relocating to the Pacific Northwest in 2012. \n“Every now and then an album comes along that is so good\, you just can’t get anything else done…I have this problem at the moment with Dave McGraw and Mandy Fer’s first official collaboration album\, which as far as problems go\, isn’t such a bad one. With an immediately warm and soothing feel to the record\, the rich acoustic sound and perfectly pitched vocals courtesy of both singers\, together with some fine electric guitar playing makes SEED OF A PINE essential listening…some of the most delicious harmonies to have reached this reviewer’s ears thus far…”  -Northern Sky Music Magazine(UK) \n“Dave and Mandy create a confluence of soulful lyrics\, musical chops and harmony in their music that is as beautiful as it is thought provoking.”  -Willy Porter \n“I could talk about these songs [Seed of a Pine] until the cows come home. Honestly this is one of those…albums which ‘had me at hello.’ If you’re a fan of modern folk and Americana\, you can’t go wrong with Seed of a Pine.” \n-Seattle Post Intelligencer – BlogCritics.org \nPlease call 920-563-9391 to reserve.
