SUMMARY:A ROSE AMONG THORNS
DESCRIPTION:This quartet of local musicians offers pleasing melodies\, tight musicianship\, and stirring renditions of songs from folk\, pop\, blues\, country\, and Celtic traditions. First performing on Café Carpe’s stage two years ago\, the foursome includes JEFF MASON on acoustic guitar\, bass\, and vocals; PERRY BAIRD on vocals and acoustic guitar; TOM COOK on bass\, mandolin\, banjo\, and a host of other stringed instruments; and ANGELA LICARI on violin. Jeff and Perry played at Café Carpe as solo acts and as a duo in the mid-1980s\, renewing their musical partnership about five years ago. Tom\, retired band teacher at Fort High School\, came on board in 2015\, and a violin was added in 2016\, with Angela capably taking over that duty last year. \nThe guys are retired from their day jobs and reliving their younger days (as they remember them)\, while Angela provides the more youthful exuberance. All are familiar to local audiences as members of other musical ensembles\, some of which include Jeff with the Merry Horde\, Expanded Waist Band\, and Blue Stew; Perry with The Buzzards; Tom with Madison Brass and Guitarcheology; and Angela with Madpolecats. The Rose Among Thorns collaboration gives each a chance to contribute favorite—often eclectic—songs for interpretation by the group. Songs featuring moving stories and themes\, energetic instrumentals\, soothing vocals\, and singable choruses are all part of typical Rose Among Thorns musical sets. \nPlease call 920-563-9391 to reserve.

SUMMARY:RANDY SABIEN a Rare Solo Concert w/ Spatial guest Bill Camplin
DESCRIPTION:RANDY SABIEN  is a bluesy\, rockin’\, swingin’\, funky\, jazz violinist. With an intensely rhythmic\, vibrant and inventive style\, he has captivated audiences worldwide\, playing with scores of bands and musicians of all stripes. \nDubbed “the past\, present and future of jazz violin” by NPR’s Jazz Profiles\, Randy is a regular at Big Top Chautauqua and has performed on A Prairie Home Companion and Austin City Limits.  His instrumental skill on the violin\, guitar\, mandolin\, and piano\, in the genres of jazz\, country\, and rock\, is legendary. \nSays Randy- \n“I was going to title my appearance at the Café Carpe February 9 “Randy Sabien Naked.” But I didn’t want to risk a raid or\, worse\, play to an empty house. Instead I’m calling it “Rare Solo Concert.” It’s rare because I’ve built my reputation (assuming I have one) on being a violinist leading a band or accompanying singer/songwriters. However\, when I’m home I seldom play the violin as it’s lonely and kind of boring. I strum the guitar\, plunk the piano\, sing and I find that personally entertaining. As a result\, I’ve created a personal repertoire of songs and instrumentals (many of them original) that I seldom perform publicly live on stage. Until now! I will bare my musical soul – but keep my clothes on. In case it’s a flop\, my ace-in-the-hole second set features me slinking into the background as Bill Camplin (who typically performs so low) steps up to deliver his powerful time-tested material.” \n“Listen closely to Sabien’s great cascades of notes\, and you will hear the grand arpeggios\, broken octaves\, double-stops\, trills\, and tremolos that have marked classical violin playing since the solo work of J.S. Bach. But that’s just the starting point for Sabien’s art which bristles with the spirit of bona fide jazz improvisation. Rather than simply embellishing a tune\, he reconceives it\, building and developing intriguing new musical motifs along the way. ”\nHoward Reich\, CHICAGO TRIBUNE \nPlease call 920-563-9391 to reserve seats.

SUMMARY:ALBERT LEE BAND
DESCRIPTION:Buy tickets in advance through this link to BROWN PAPER TICKETS- click on the Buy Tickets link below: \n \nKnown for his signature Ernie Ball guitar and lightning speed picking\, ALBERT LEE has not only worked with some of the biggest names in music but he has also maintained a solo career of his own.  Bill could not believe our good fortune (and yours) when he got the request for Albert to play our little room. Albert will be accompanied by his band\, J.T. Thomas on keyboards\, Will McGregor on bass\, and Jason Harrison Smith on drums. \n“ONE OF THE FINEST GUITAR PLAYERS WHO EVER WALKED THIS EARTH…”Vince Gill \nAlbert was born on December 21\, 1943 in Herefordshire\, England\, before moving and growing up in Blackheath\, London. He was first introduced to music with the piano\, taking lessons aged seven\, learning the classics and pop tunes before the likes of Jerry Lee Lewis inspired him to take up guitar. \nAlbert was treated one Christmas to a Hofner President acoustic arch-top\, and from there he never looked back. Spurred on by the recordings of Jimmy Bryant\, Buddy Holly and The Crickets\, Gene Vincent and The Everly Brothers\, Albert left school at sixteen and turned pro\, getting regular gigs at the 2 i’s Coffee Bar and The Flamingo Club in London – first with Bob Xavier’s band\, and then with The Jury. He replaced Jimmy Page in The Crusaders before joining Chris Farlowe and The Thunderbirds in ‘64. \n\n\n\n\n\nHe soon found his favoured guitar of choice\, the Fender Telecaster\, whilst everyone else was playing Gibson Les Pauls and Stratocasters. Albert admitted to feeling like the odd man out as his appreciation for American country artists grew\, and he formed the band Country Fever. He began working with Poet & The One Man Band\, who later turned into Heads\, Hands & Feet when Jerry Donahue and Pat Donaldson (of Country Fever) were replaced by Albert and Chas Hodges. Their self-titled debut album featured the original “Country Boy”\, now synonymous with Albert’s trademark picking style. \nThe U.S eventually beckoned\, and Albert began doing session work and briefly toured with The Crickets in 1973. He moved to Los Angeles\, where he met his idols Phil and Don Everly\, and Don invited Albert to play with him and pedal steel legend Buddy Emmons. After working on Don’s second album\, Albert left to join Joe Cocker’s band and was replaced by Lindsey Buckingham. \nAlbert’s reputation was growing as he moved to Encino\, and met his wife Karen whilst rehearsing up in Santa Barbara with Joe Cocker and his band before they went on the road. He contributed to Cocker’s “Sting Ray”\, and was then approached by A&M about putting together a solo album. \nAt a pivotal point in his career\, Albert was asked by Emmylou Harris to replace James Burton – one of his guitar heroes – who was leaving for Elvis Presley’s band. In 1976 he joined the Hot Band\, and his incredible guitar work came to the fore on the “Luxury Liner” LP. Albert released his first solo album “Hiding”\, produced by Brian Ahern\, which featured perhaps the definite version of “Country Boy” with Emmylou on backing vocals and Ricky Skaggs on fiddle. \nWhen he returned to London in 1978 for session recording\, Albert met Eric Clapton. He was invited to join his band and played on Clapton’s live album “Just One Night”\, which featured Albert on lead vocals for a cover of Mark Knopfler’s “Setting Me Up”. Albert would work with Eric for five years before he left and released his second solo album\, the self-titled “Albert Lee” in 1982. \nAlbert fulfilled his boyhood dream to play with the Everly Brothers in 1983 when he acted as guitarist and musical director for their reunion concert at the Royal Albert Hall. Since then he would regularly tour with the Everlys on and off for 20 years. After two instrumental albums – “Speechless” (1986) and “Gagged But Not Bound” (1987) – steel player Gerry Hogan invited Albert to headline at a festival in Newbury\, England – fronting his own band for the very first time\, Hogan’s Heroes. \nAs Albert toured with Hogan’s Heroes through the late 80s\, he began his long association with Ernie Ball Music Man\, who would eventually (through many iterations) produce his signature guitar that he tours and records with today. In 2002 he would join Eric Clapton\, Tom Petty\, Paul McCartney and other music legends on stage at the Concert for George at the Royal Albert Hall. \nAlbert also received a Grammy Award in 2002 for his contribution to “Foggy Mountain Breakdown” featured on “Earl Scruggs and Friends”. He appeared for the first time at Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival in 2007\, now an annual appearance\, and has toured periodically for the last few years with ex-Stones bassist Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Kings\, performing with Georgie Fame. Joining his hero James Burton\, along with the likes of Vince Gill and John Jorgenson\, Albert won a Grammy for his performance on Brad Paisley’s instrumental “Cluster Pluck” in 2009.

SUMMARY:JIM OHLSCHMIDT & DAVID COX
DESCRIPTION:DAVID COX and JIM OHLSCHMIDT  are two singer/songwriter guitar players who arrived at the same destination from opposite ends of the road. \nOhlschmidt began his professional career in 1977 with a solo acoustic instrumental guitar album called “Behind The Eye.” Ohlschmidt’s recent CDs include a collection of original songs and instrumentals called “Old Box\, New Tunes” (2013) and “Satisfied” (2015)\, the fourth volume of Mississippi John Hurt songs Ohlschmidt recorded with special guest Stefan Grossman. Another release from 2013\, “Lorenzo Menzerschmidt” features Ohlschmidt in the company of former Violent Femmes drummer Victor DeLorenzo and Velveetatones bassist Tony Menzer. \nCox’s latest CD from 2018\, “As Ever\, Guitar\,” is his first collection of solo acoustic guitar instrumentals. His three previous CDs\, including “A Map To Anywhere\,” showcase his uncanny gift for witty songwriting that is fresh and quirky. Tom McCarthy of the Associated Press wrote of Cox “his songwriting and guitar chops capture and amaze me” and Steel Bridge Songfest founder Pat McDonald describes him as “Brilliant\, and authentic.” \nTogether Cox and Ohlschmidt interweave their guitar skills and songs into a fun evening of pure musical satisfaction. \nPlease call 920-563-9391 to reserve seats.

SUMMARY:THREE THIN DIMES

Expect a setlist that samples widely from various acoustic traditions\, from Appalachian fiddle/banjo jams to Irish jigs and reels\, from 70s-era newgrass to ragtime blues\, and the occasional Hawaiian slide guitar interlude thrown in for good measure.

SUMMARY:ELLIS PAUL/ opener Flynn SOLD OUT
DESCRIPTION:SOLD OUT- Last 4 tickets purchased Wednesday.  Keep checking Brown Paper Tickets\, as people sometimes return them to BPT and get a refund. You can also leave a message on our Facebook page or the Discussion section of the Brown Paper Tickets site indicating your interest in tickets.\n\nSometimes\, the day of the show\, people contact us to say they cannot use of all of their tickets.  Sometimes\, less preferably\, people do not let us know in advance that they cannot use their tickets.\n\nAll this is to say that sometimes tickets become available the day of the show.\n\nTickets are being sold through Brown Paper Tickets- click on Buy Tickets below:\n\n\n \nELLIS PAUL \nEllis Paul is a key figure in what has become known as the Boston school of songwriting\, a literate\, provocative and urbanely romantic folk-pop style that helped ignite the folk revival of the 1990s. His folk-pop music songs have appeared in movies and on television\, and are said to bridge the gap between the modern folk sound and the populist traditions of Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger. \n“Ellis Paul is one of the best singer/songwriters of his generation. And for many of us he is the face of contemporary folk music. Few are as smart\, as literate\, as poetic as Paul. I cannot think of another artist on the acoustic music scene is better loved by fans\, or more respected by his contemporaries.” \nSome artists document their lives through their music. Others chronicle their times. It’s a rare artist who can do both\, telling their own story through songs that also encapsulate the essence of people and places who have helped define their era over- all. Woody Guthrie comes to mind\, and so does Bob Dylan. Bruce Springsteen certainly as well. Yet few others\, for whatever genius they may possess\, can relate their own history to the history experienced by those who find that common bond\, be it in a coming of age\, living through the same realities or sharing similar experiences. \nEllis Paul is one of those gifted singer/songwriters. Though some may refer to him as a folksinger\, he is more\, for lack of a better word\, a singular storyteller\, a musician whose words reach out from inside and yet also express the feelings\, thoughts and sensibilities that most people can relate to in one way or another\, regardless of age or upbringing. The exhilaration of the open road. A celebration of heroes. The hope for redemption. Descriptions of those things that are both near and dear. The sharing of love…\, intimate\, passionate and enduring. \nOf FLYNN– “Reflecting wisdom and heart\, this passionate voice\, woven into a rich\, resonant sound texture\, calls back memories of Bono and the mellower side of U2. His lyrics- and even more so\, his voice- are so upfront and honest that you’ll be helplessly moved\,uplifted and motivated to go do something incredible. There is real meat and intelligence to these musical bones. Don’t miss this talented and genuine artist.by CD Baby.” CD Baby \n\n\n+ GOOGLE CALENDAR

SUMMARY:LAMPLIGHTER- Peter MULVEY/ Brianna LANE / SISTASTRINGS SOLD OUT
DESCRIPTION:We are serving dinner and will be open at 5:30.     \nTicket sales were through Brown Paper Tickets:    \n\nThis is part of the annual Lamplighter Sessions  curated by PETER MULVEY.  Click on the link to learn what this is all about. \nTo PETER MULVEY\, there is no such thing as a straight and narrow path. At least\, not one that he has any interest in taking. \nA live-wire on any stage\, Peter is an acoustic singer/songwriter/guitarist who\, in fact\, defies this categorization. His ferocious guitar playing whisks him through more tunings than he has fingers in the course of an evening\, as he winds his way from full-throated rockers to deceptively plain-spoken musings. Whether solo or accompanied\, Mulvey is someone who just naturally commands a stage: \n“Peter Mulvey is one of the most accomplished guitarists you’re ever likely to hear… utterly original… it is nigh on impossible to explain him to the uninitiated… his intelligent and sometimes complex songs engage both hemispheres of the listener’s brain… one of the finest\, most complete entertainers… stunning.” – The Irish Examiner \nHailing from the song-rich soil of Minneapolis\, BRIANNA LANE  is the latest in a deluge of compelling songwriters flooding the region. Lane’s vocals are both confidant and fragile\, running parallels to Mindy Smith or Americana veteran Patty Griffin. Behind Lane’s beguiling smile lies a heart that has had its share of heartache where songs like “In My Bones” and “Company” draw their inspiration. Her stories oscillate between a sense of urgency and resolve while seeking a tranquil balance. \n“Poised\, ambitious\, a soul-singer of the first order\, and an accomplished guitarist.” – Jim Walsh (Star Tribune Minneapolis\, MN) \nSISTASTRINGS are Milwaukee-based sisters who are using their gifts of music to creating social change. As classically-trained instrumentalists\, Monique (cello) and Chauntee (violin) Ross are a dynamic\, collaborative pair riffing on elements of classic and gospel music to create a unique sound rooted in passion. Their sound is soulful and fresh\, a truly unique blend of their eclectic musical background. Their training in classical music paired with a deep love in gospel music has allowed them to cultivate their improvisation skills and use their instruments as their voice. But they sing too.

SUMMARY:LAMPLIGHTER- Peter MULVEY/ John STATZ\, John STANO/ Chris PORTERFIELD
DESCRIPTION:Ticket sales are through Brown Paper Tickets:  Click on Buy tickets and get yourself some.  \n \nThis is part of the annual Lamplighter Sessions  curated by PETER MULVEY. Whether solo or accompanied\, Mulvey is someone who just naturally commands a stage: \n“Peter Mulvey is one of the most accomplished guitarists you’re ever likely to hear… utterly original… it is nigh on impossible to explain him to the uninitiated… his intelligent and sometimes complex songs engage both hemispheres of the listener’s brain… one of the finest\, most complete entertainers… stunning.” – The Irish Examiner \nJOHN STANO is an award winning singer songwriter and performer of Americana\, Blues\, Folk and Contemporary Acoustic music. The trademark of his sound is a distinctive blend of acoustic and slide guitar\, harmonica and expressive vocals\, developed over many years of performance and study. He sometimes adds a little mandolin\, cigar box guitar or banjo to the mix as well. His style could be described as acoustic folk-blues or Americana. \nInitially self-taught\, John went on to study American fingerstyle guitar at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music and harmonica with national blues legend\, Jim Liban. ‘Sing Out’ compared John’s music to early Bob Dylan while ‘Dirty Linen’ was reminded of Country Joe McDonald. John studied English and creative writing at U.W. Madison. A skillful use of language adds an original spark to his lyrics. Besides his own songs\, John also performs his own arrangements of urban and country blues classics\, instrumentals and contemporary songs\, covering music by artists such as; John Prine\, Bob Dylan\, Greg Brown\, Little Walter\, Robert Johnson\, Mississippi John Hurt\, John Fahey\, Gillian Welch\, Leo Kottke and Tom Waits. \nCHRIS PORTERFIELD  says he is “midwestern to the core” and we find no fault with that kind of core. \nChris’ Milwaukee-based band\, Field Report (an anagram of his surname) will release their third album soon.  Field Report was culled together in the studio while recording their 2012 self-titled debut. They suddenly found themselves championed by their former idols: offered support tours by Counting Crows and Aimee Mann\, lauded by the likes of Mark Eitzel and Richard Thompson\, and covered by Blind Boys Of Alabama. \nJOHN STATZ has released seven studio albums\, and performed all over North America and Europe\, all in just a shade over a decade. Throughout that time he’s been writing “the kind of songs that float through your mind and stay nestled in your thoughts long after listening” (American Songwriter) and it’s been said that his songwriting can “stand beside the best and above the rest“(No Depression). Along the way John has attracted the attention of the likes of Americana scene heroes Jeffrey Foucault and Bo Ramsey (Lucinda Williams\, Greg Brown)\, who separately produced his last two records. This latest is produced by fellow Denver songwriter Megan Burtt\, whose instincts and backing band help bring forth an entirely new sound from Statz. The title of The Fire Sermon was taken from the third section of T.S. Eliot’s poem\, The Wasteland\, the name of which was borrowed from a sermon given by Buddha\, in which he denounced the fires of passion\, hatred\, and infatuation with which the senses burn\, according to Eliot’s endnotes. At the very end of the Fire Sermon section Eliot simply repeats\, “Burning burning burning burning.

Foucault’s singing is dusky\, beguiling and grainy as uncut wheat\, yet as nuanced as a sideways-drifting wind.” \nFOLK ALLEY: “Jeffrey Foucault has done it again… If there are any flaws on the record\, it’s that the listener would be best served stopping after every song and listening to it a few more times before continuing.” \nGLIDE MAGAZINE: “Describing Foucault’s music with words like economic\, literate\, simple\, restrained\, aching\, and raw doesn’t go far enough. There’s a purity and delicacy here… free of pretensions or imitation. He has shaped his own unique style and has a way of looking inward and painting detailed reflections that few can match.” \nNEW YORK TIMES:  “Immaculately tailored… Sometimes his songs run right up to the edge of the grandiose and hold still\, and that’s when he’s best… Close to perfection” \nDON HENLEY: “Jeffrey Foucault… clocks modern culture about as good as I’ve ever heard anybody clock it” \nWORCESTER TELEGRAM:  “”The music ebbs and flows\, but Foucault manages to find a power in his sense of understatement and restraint. It’s a gift few songwriters master\, that ability to hold back at just the right moment\, to let the listener fall into the sense of absence in a song. SUMMARY:LAMPLIGHTER- Peter MULVEY/ Jeffrey FOUCAULT/ Pieta BROWN SOLD OUT
DESCRIPTION:Ticket sales are through Brown Paper Tickets:  Click on Buy tickets and get yourself some- except the show has SOLD OUT. You may leave a note in the Discussion section on Brown Paper Tickets indicate your interest in any tickets that someone cannot use. \n \nThis is part of the annual Lamplighter Sessions  curated by PETER MULVEY. Whether solo or accompanied\, Mulvey is someone who just naturally commands a stage. \n“Peter Mulvey is one of the most accomplished guitarists you’re ever likely to hear… utterly original… it is nigh on impossible to explain him to the uninitiated… his intelligent and sometimes complex songs engage both hemispheres of the listener’s brain… one of the finest\, most complete entertainers… stunning.” – The Irish Examiner” \nJEFFREY FOUCAULT returns to his native land\, bringing accolades with him. \nNO DEPRESSION: “Blood Brothers illustrates that whatever genres and subgenres he embraces… Jeffrey Foucault continues to prove himself one of contemporary Americana’s more eloquent and versatile artists.” \nSHEPARD EXPRESS: “…The balance between reflection and passion sounds effortless. Foucault does it better than just about anybody else” \nPIETA BROWN \nHailed as a “self-styled poetess\, folk goddess and country waif” by the BBC\, Pieta Brown first came to international attention with her 2002 self-titled debut. The daughter of Grammy-nominated folk musician Greg Brown\, Pieta has since been recognized by NPR for her “moody\, ethereal” songwriting\, applauded by The Boston Globe for her “mercurial voice\,” and has continued to gain widespread critical attention for both her singing and songwriting with each release. She has shared stages with artists from Emmylou Harris and JJ Cale to Neko Case and Richard Thompson\, in addition to performing at major festivals like Bonnaroo and Mountain Jam. Continually revealing new layers as both a songwriter and performer\, Pieta is being recognized as one of modern Americana’s true gems. \n~“Self-styled poetess\, folk goddess and country waif\, Pieta’s music resonates with a seductive simplicity and lyrical grace.”  – BBC \n~“One of the best poets I’ve heard in a long damn time.” – Iris Dement \n~“She has an incredibly genuine Americana folk vibe. The album puts you in a trance…”– 8Banjos \n~“…a gifted singer-songwriter whose lyrics are pieces of polished poetry”  – Huffington Post \n~“Driven by her mercurial voice against a backdrop of twangy folk and country rock\, her latest proves that less really is more”  – Boston Globe

Koskinen’s albums are a lyrical and musical metaphor of American’s theaters of war\, of history\, of relationships\, and of the reflections in the mirror. Knowing but not didactic\, Koskinen channels the ways of Whitman and reverently enters the anthology of uniquely crafted wry songs with the likes of Woody Guthrie and Ry Cooder while speaking as plainly as your neighbor. \nHis new EP Cruising Paradise features six songs that were recorded over the past few years but never planned to be released until now. “I’ve been working on all kinds of projects the past few years and have written a lot of new songs\,” says Koskinen. “But these six seemed to have a thread all the way through\, a story from song one to song six.” \nThe title\, “Cruising Paradise\,” was an homage to Sam Shepard\, the actor and writer who died earlier this year. “Shepard’s death is a significant loss to me. This has been a year where we’ve lost giants. Pioneers in literature and music are gone. Who’s gonna step up and fill the vacuum?” \n“Whether his songs are autobiographical or not\, Koskinen can craft an old blues tune that speaks to everyone\, a song that is more than the sum of its parts…” -City Pages

SUMMARY:MATTHEW DAVIES/ TRAPPER SCHOEPP
DESCRIPTION:Please call 920-563-9391 to reserve seats. \nTwo Milwaukee singer-songwriter friends make a great pairing for this evening. \nMATTHEW DAVIES is a troubadour with a writer’s honesty and veracity\, an athlete\, a poet\, and a family-man. His style is one that harkens back to the folk\, rock\, and Americana of a bygone era with updated sensibilities for the modern listener.  Matt has been writing\, recording and performing for over a decade as a solo artist.  He also leads the Milwaukee based band\, Thriftones\, and has collaborated with many other artists and musicians during his career. \nTRAPPER SCHOEPP is noted for his story song of characters on the fringes of society. His recently-released record Primetime Illusion features a song\, “On Wisconsin”\,  he composed with long-lost lyrics by Bob Dylan. Back in 1961\, just months after he’d first moved to New York City\, Dylan had drafted a song about Wisconsin\, imagining a homesick rambler pining for the cheese and beer of his faraway Badger State. Schoepp’s version was submitted to Dylan\, who gave his approval to have go forward with it with a co-write credit to Schoepp. \nWith its extraordinary melding of the personal and political\, PRIMETIME ILLUSION firmly places Trapper Schoepp amongst the long American continuum of singing storytellers\, a pedigree and place on the family tree that inspires and drives him each and every new day. \n“I think a lot about the folk process\,” he says\, “how things are passed down to the next generation and are reinvented and evolve. That’s really important to me\, to keep the spirit of what someone might consider old new. \n“Dylan\, in his MusiCares speech a few years ago\, made the point that his role in music is simply extending the line. That’s my whole M.O. as well. I want to push this music forward like my life depends on it. It’s all I have.” \nPlease call 929-563-9391 to reserve.

SUMMARY:BILL CAMPLIN/ GREG GILBERTSON
DESCRIPTION:Lonesome Bill will be alternating sets with GREG GILBERTSON. \n“Wisconsin native singer-songwriter and award-winning acoustic guitarist Greg Gilbertson has an engaging charm which often belies the subject matter of his lyrics. Whether solo or accompanied by his band\, his shows are\, in turn\, energetic\, then reflective. His warm tenor voice lends itself well to his subject matter as he moves fluidly between ballads\, up-tempo rootsy tunes full of layered imagery\, and on to impressively smooth and complex instrumentals that serve as a reminder that he is a world-class player\, fully capable of leaving an audience slack-jawed.”
