DESCRIPTION:TRET FURE‘s career spans 4 decades. She began her professional work at the age of 16\, singing in coffeehouses and campuses in the Midwest\, moving to Berkeley where\, after performing weekly on the campus of UC Berkeley where she attended college\, she discovered that music really was her life. At 19\, she moved to LA to pursue a songwriting and musical career. Within a year she was performing as guitarist and vocalist for Spencer Davis\, touring with him and penning the single for his album “Mousetrap”. She went on to record her own album in 1973 on MCA/UNI Records\, with the late Lowell George of Little Feat as her producer. With the success of that release\, she opened for such bands as Yes\, Poco\, and the J Geils Band. \nWhile recording her second album\, Tret became interested in sound engineering\, learning the trade and becoming one of the first women engineers in LA. Over the course of her career she has engineered and produced countless recordings by a variety of artists\, including her own work \nIn the early 80s\, Tret left the mainstream music industry. Armed with a fierce desire to retain full artistic control\, she began exploring the independent side of the industry and soon discovered the blossoming genre known as Women’s Music. She has been a major player in that field ever since\, recording with and producing some of the best of women’s music including the legendary “Meg and Cris at Carnegie Hall”. She worked as a duo with Cris Williamson throughout the 90s releasing 3 CDs together during those years. \nNow after 6 acoustic releases on her own label\, Tomboy girl Records\, she has re-established herself in the folk world winning the 2004 South Florida Folk Festival Singer/Songwriter Competition in 2 out of 3 categories. 2004 also brought her recognition with the prestigious Jane Schliessman Award for Outstanding Contributions to Women’s Music. And in 2009\, she received the Janine C Rae Award for her work in Women’s Music. 2009 also found her voted “Pride In The Arts Favorite Female/Lesbian Musician”. And Tret’s last CD\, ‘The Horizon’\, finished in the top 20 CDs for 2011 in the Outvoice Charts\,. Her new release “A Piece of the Sky” continues her tradition of outstanding songwriting! \nFure also markets her own line of clothing named after her popular song\, “Tomboy girl”. In addition\, while not on the road\, Tret teaches guitar and songwriting individually and in workshop settings. An accomplished cook\, Fure has also published a cookbook\, Tret’s Kitchen\, featuring her own recipes. The Wisconsin native grew up in what’s called that state’s Driftless Area\, where Midwestern flatness gives way to a more rounded landscape\, so it’s natural that that he chose to record One for the Dreamers nestled among the neatly arranged hills of Middle Tennessee. \nRecorded at Lamplight Studios in rural Primm Springs\, Tenn.\, 2013’s One for the Dreamers was anchored by producer-drummer Chad Cromwell (Neil Young\, Mark Knopfler)\, songwriter-producer-bassist Kevin “Swine” Grantt (Brad Paisley\, Jamey Johnson\, Willie Nelson)\, and Pete Wasner (Vince Gill) on piano\, organ\, and wurlitzer. Special guests include legendary harmonica player Mickey Raphael (Willie Nelson\, Guy Clark)\, pianist Reese Wynans (Stevie Ray Vaughan\, Buddy Guy)\, and rising Americana singer-songwriter Lera Lynn on harmony vocals. \nThere’s a concordance of topography and emotion at work in the new record that comes out of Ernie’s life as a traveling musician and an intuitive record maker—Midwestern openness meets Nashville experience\, you could say. These early heroes opened the gates to the deep well of American roots music which he continues to draw inspiration from. In 2007 he self-produced and released a highly acclaimed solo record\, Down the Road\, of which the Illinois Entertainer deemed “Groundbreaking” and pushed him straight onto the Midwest’s radar as an emerging singer-songwriter. Hendrickson set the talent bar high in the studio for this album with a cast of players that included the subtle and angelic backing vocals of his sister\, Kelly Hendrickson\, and the legendary harmonica player\, Howard Levy (Bela Fleck & The Flecktones\, Paul Simon)\, aligned with an all-star group of Chicago musicians. \nHendrickson’s second record\, Walking with Angels\, began with a chance meeting between Ernie and veteran producer Bo Ramsey (Greg Brown\, Lucinda Williams) in the spring of ’08 in Iowa City\, where Ernie was opening a show for an old friend of Bo’s\, Kevin Gordon. Even in early conversation\, the two agreed that there was a chemistry evolving that would only deepen once the sessions began. At Bo’s urging\, Ernie sang and played nearly all of the songs on the record with a live band which consisted of Bo\, Jon Penner on bass (Junior Brown\, Bo Ramsey)\, and Steve Hayes on drums (Greg Brown\, Bo Ramsey). This call was made by Bo to try and capture the energy of a great performance and the result could not have been better. All twelve songs on the record feel as though these four guys had been playing together for years. After adding legendary Chicago pedal steel player Brian Wilkie (Alison Krauss\, Pam Tillis) on several tracks\, Bob Black’s banjo (Bill Monroe)\, and taking a trip to Nashville to record keyboardist Kevin McKendree (Delbert McClinton)\, the record shines as a true testament to Hendrickson’s ripening powers as a songwriter. Radio promotion has taken the sophomore album’s success to a higher level on both AAA and Americana stations\, having spent over 25 weeks in the Top 20 on Roots Music Report’s Folk charts and in regular rotation at nearly 100 different stations across the country including Nashville’s award-winning WSM-AM The Legend. \n

DESCRIPTION:This five piece bluegrass ball of fire featuring vocals\, banjo\, fiddle\, guitar\, bass and mandolin appears here regularly on the 2nd Thursday of the month. Its various members have been involved with traditional music locally\, regionally\, and nationally for many years. \nThe Pioneer’s lead singer and guitarist\, Jerry Wicentowski\, has been described by country music historian Bill Malone as “One of the finest singers in bluegrass music”. Jerry has also performed and recorded with such bluegrass greats as Tim O’Brien\, Andy Statman\, Byron Berline\, Tony Trischka and others. Mike Schmidt of Spring Green\, Wisconsin\, is the group’s banjo player. This former French horn player has been a Nashville session musician and member of the popular Wisconsin-based bluegrass bands\, Alive ‘n’ Pickin’ and the Piper Road Spring Band. He also performs occasionally with his wife Lori. Bruce King of Art Stevenson and High Water – also formerly of Alive ‘n’ Pickin’ – is on mandolin. Bruce and Mike are veterans of the Great Northern Bluegrass Festival in Mole Lake\, WI – performing there every year from 1977 to 1982. Fiddle player Paul Kienitz is a member in good standing of regional bluegrass favorites\, The Nob Hill Boys. Bass player John Jirak also has played banjo with various folks in the northeastern WI and Madison areas\, most notably with the Green Bay based Fox River Flyer. As a bass player\, he’s performed shows with the Chicago Bluegrass Band\, Miltown Ramblers\, Krause Family\, Old Cool\, Spare Time Bluegrass Band\, Bob Steeno and The Old Truck\, and Down From the Hills\, and currently Madison’s newest\, Kettle Moraine. \nLike them on Facebook.

DESCRIPTION:Fort Atkinson’s own Perry Baird\, Tom Cook (TC) and Jeff Mason will embark on their second performance together\, joined this time by Fort violinist Erica Flyte on a number of songs. Perry and Tom are officially retired from their former day jobs\, and Jeff is about half-way there. They are all getting a little long in the tooth and slow off the couch\, but their fingers are almost as nimble as ever. The boys will wind their way through traditional folk and fiddle tunes (this time with Erica actually providing fiddle) and whatever else they can remember. Perry and Jeff play guitar(s) and Perry does most of the singing. TC seems to be bringing a collection of (mostly) four and eight-stringed wooden instruments and will be making his second sojourn onto the Carpe stage\, with some tasty instrumentals promised. Quite honestly\, the whole thing is a work-in-progress and the old geezers are just as anxious as anyone else to hear what happens\, particularly with the addition of Erica’s sweet violin to the mix. \nThey’ll wind their way through a mix of contemporary and traditional folk\, pop\, and blues tunes\, plus a few novelties of highly suspect origin. \nPlease call to reserve.

DESCRIPTION:Colin is again sharing the evening with his talented friends the Stellanovas\,  Chris Wagoner and Mary Gaines.  They pack a lot of music and fun into a performance. \nBanjo\, fiddle\, guitar\, footboard playin’ COLIN O’BRIEN‘s\, latest release\, “After a Song”\, was recorded in Nashville with some of music city’s best pickers: Larry Perkins\, Matt Combs\, Mark Howard and Dennis Crouch. Those boys were so enthralled with Colin they urged him to move there\, which he and his wife\, after a bit of consideration (1 or 2 minutes)\, did. \nIt was in the summer of 2011 that Nashville music legend Larry Perkins heard Colin’s set at the John Hartford Memorial Festival. Larry was side-struck. He immediately invited him down to Nashville make a record. The result\, After A Song\, features 12 of Colin’s originals and a band comprised of some of the late John Hartford’s band mates. \n“After A Song…Bottles the lighting that was John Hartford’s engagingly off-center songwriting” – Jon Weisberger\, The Nashville Scene. \nIn addition to his solo song and dance\, Mr. O’Brien performs withThe Nashville Stringy-Band\, an acoustic super-group featuring Matt Combs on fiddle\, Mike Compton on mandolin and Todd Phillips on bass. \nOriginally a jazz-guitar major at the University of WI-Stevens Point\, MARY GAINES truly found her musical voice studying jazz cello under the tutelage of the great Richard Davis (bass player with artists ranging from Sarah Vaughn to Van Morrison) at the UW-Madison. Mary is also known for her amazing voice–often compared to Bonnie Raitt but definitely her own. She (along with her husband\, Chris) has done extensive work as a session musician\, appearing on albums such as Smashing Pumpkin’s Gish\, several Freedy Johnston\, Willy Porter\, and Carrie Newcomer albums\, and scores of others. \nA founding member of Madison’s Harmonious Wail\, The Common Faces\, The Bob Westfall Quartet\, and The Moon Gypsies (the latter three co-founded with Mary Gaines)\, CHRIS WAGONER has had his foot in just about every musical circle in Madison. Classically trained as a violinist\, (he also plays ukulele\, hawaiian guitar\, accordion)\, he met Mary while attending the UW-Madison. Albert will be accompanied by his band\, J.T. Thomas on keyboards\, Will McGregor on bass\, and Jason Harrison Smith on drums. \n“ONE OF THE FINEST GUITAR PLAYERS WHO EVER WALKED THIS EARTH…”Vince Gill \nAlbert was born on December 21\, 1943 in Herefordshire\, England\, before moving and growing up in Blackheath\, London. He was first introduced to music with the piano\, taking lessons aged seven\, learning the classics and pop tunes before the likes of Jerry Lee Lewis inspired him to take up guitar. \nAlbert was treated one Christmas to a Hofner President acoustic arch-top\, and from there he never looked back. Spurred on by the recordings of Jimmy Bryant\, Buddy Holly and The Crickets\, Gene Vincent and The Everly Brothers\, Albert left school at sixteen and turned pro\, getting regular gigs at the 2 i’s Coffee Bar and The Flamingo Club in London – first with Bob Xavier’s band\, and then with The Jury. He replaced Jimmy Page in The Crusaders before joining Chris Farlowe and The Thunderbirds in ‘64. \n\n\n\n\n\nHe soon found his favoured guitar of choice\, the Fender Telecaster\, whilst everyone else was playing Gibson Les Pauls and Stratocasters. Albert admitted to feeling like the odd man out as his appreciation for American country artists grew\, and he formed the band Country Fever. He began working with Poet & The One Man Band\, who later turned into Heads\, Hands & Feet when Jerry Donahue and Pat Donaldson (of Country Fever) were replaced by Albert and Chas Hodges. Their self-titled debut album featured the original “Country Boy”\, now synonymous with Albert’s trademark picking style. \nThe U.S eventually beckoned\, and Albert began doing session work and briefly toured with The Crickets in 1973. He moved to Los Angeles\, where he met his idols Phil and Don Everly\, and Don invited Albert to play with him and pedal steel legend Buddy Emmons. After working on Don’s second album\, Albert left to join Joe Cocker’s band and was replaced by Lindsey Buckingham. \nAlbert’s reputation was growing as he moved to Encino\, and met his wife Karen whilst rehearsing up in Santa Barbara with Joe Cocker and his band before they went on the road. He contributed to Cocker’s “Sting Ray”\, and was then approached by A&M about putting together a solo album. \nAt a pivotal point in his career\, Albert was asked by Emmylou Harris to replace James Burton – one of his guitar heroes – who was leaving for Elvis Presley’s band. In 1976 he joined the Hot Band\, and his incredible guitar work came to the fore on the “Luxury Liner” LP. Albert released his first solo album “Hiding”\, produced by Brian Ahern\, which featured perhaps the definite version of “Country Boy” with Emmylou on backing vocals and Ricky Skaggs on fiddle. \nWhen he returned to London in 1978 for session recording\, Albert met Eric Clapton. He was invited to join his band and played on Clapton’s live album “Just One Night”\, which featured Albert on lead vocals for a cover of Mark Knopfler’s “Setting Me Up”. Albert would work with Eric for five years before he left and released his second solo album\, the self-titled “Albert Lee” in 1982. \nAlbert fulfilled his boyhood dream to play with the Everly Brothers in 1983 when he acted as guitarist and musical director for their reunion concert at the Royal Albert Hall. Since then he would regularly tour with the Everlys on and off for 20 years. After two instrumental albums – “Speechless” (1986) and “Gagged But Not Bound” (1987) – steel player Gerry Hogan invited Albert to headline at a festival in Newbury\, England – fronting his own band for the very first time\, Hogan’s Heroes. \nAs Albert toured with Hogan’s Heroes through the late 80s\, he began his long association with Ernie Ball Music Man\, who would eventually (through many iterations) produce his signature guitar that he tours and records with today. In 2002 he would join Eric Clapton\, Tom Petty\, Paul McCartney and other music legends on stage at the Concert for George at the Royal Albert Hall. \nAlbert also received a Grammy Award in 2002 for his contribution to “Foggy Mountain Breakdown” featured on “Earl Scruggs and Friends”. He appeared for the first time at Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival in 2007\, now an annual appearance\, and has toured periodically for the last few years with ex-Stones bassist Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Kings\, performing with Georgie Fame. Jerry has also performed and recorded with such bluegrass greats as Tim O’Brien\, Andy Statman\, Byron Berline\, Tony Trischka and others. Mike Schmidt of Spring Green\, Wisconsin\, is the group’s banjo player. This former French horn player has been a Nashville session musician and member of the popular Wisconsin-based bluegrass bands\, Alive ‘n’ Pickin’ and the Piper Road Spring Band. He also performs occasionally with his wife Lori. Bruce King of Art Stevenson and High Water – also formerly of Alive ‘n’ Pickin’ – is on mandolin. Bruce and Mike are veterans of the Great Northern Bluegrass Festival in Mole Lake\, WI – performing there every year from 1977 to 1982. Fiddle player Paul Kienitz is a member in good standing of regional bluegrass favorites\, The Nob Hill Boys. Bass player John Jirak also has played banjo with various folks in the northeastern WI and Madison areas\, most notably with the Green Bay based Fox River Flyer. As a bass player\, he’s performed shows with the Chicago Bluegrass Band\, Miltown Ramblers\, Krause Family\, Old Cool\, Spare Time Bluegrass Band\, Bob Steeno and The Old Truck\, and Down From the Hills\, and currently Madison’s newest\, Kettle Moraine. \nLike them on Facebook.
