SUMMARY:CLIFF EBERHARDT w/special guest Louise Mosrie
DESCRIPTION:Always happy to have  CLIFF EBERHARDT return.  This time he brings along someone new- LOUISE MOSRIE. \nCliff knew by age seven that he was going to be a singer and songwriter. Growing up in Berwyn\, Pennsylvania\, he and his brothers sang together and their parents played instruments. His dad introduced him to the guitar and he quickly taught himself to play. Fortunate enough to live close to the Main Point (one of the best folk clubs on the East Coast)\, he cut his teeth listening to the likes of James Taylor\, Joni Mitchell\, Bruce Springsteen\, Howlin’ Wolf\, Muddy Waters\, Bonnie Raitt\, and Mississippi John Hurt — receiving an early and impressive tutorial in acoustic music. At the same time\, he was also listening to great pop songwriters like Cole Porter\, the Gershwins\, and Rodgers and Hart\, which explain his penchant for great melodies and clever lyrical twists. \n“Eberhardt is better than ever\, Steve McQueening his way into your heart at about ninety-eight miles an hour\, kicking ass with fresh insight and new ways to lament old yearnings.”\n—Philly Rock Guide – \n“Up and down the line\, as a writer\, guitarist\, performer\, and vocalist\, Eberhardt is the equal of any singer-songwriter in contemporary pop. With unequaled directness and with a stark\, raw presentation\, he carves out miniature masterpieces\, giving voice to life’s complexities and ambiguities.” —Berkshire Eagle \n“Melding pop\, rock\,and folk styles into a rich melange\, Eberhardt fits gracefully and solidly in the singer/songwriter niche.” —Seattle Weekly \n“Eberhardt approaches the guitar with stylistic eloquence\, with the hooks\, licks and grooves that could easily rank him among those who are singularly known as guitar virtuosos.” —Taconic Newspapers \n“Eberhardt is a superb singer\, with a vast credible range of emotions\, and a soulfulness that draws from rock and pop\, but also from the best folk ballad styles.” – The Boston Globe \nAt fifteen\, Cliff and his brother Geoff began touring as an acoustic duo\, playing the Eastern club circuit until Cliff turned twenty-one and moved to Carbondale\, Illinois. There he found space to develop his own voice within a vibrant and supportive music scene that included Shawn Colvin. After a couple of years there and a short stay in Colorado\, Cliff moved to New York in 1978. Because the clubs were great (the Bitter End\, the Speakeasy\, Kenny’s Castaway\, Folk City) and the company amazing (John Gorka\, Suzanne Vega\, Lucy Kaplansky\, Julie Gold\, Steve Forbert\, Christine Lavin\, and Shawn Colvin)\, New York was an ideal musician’s boot camp. Though he put in long hours as a taxi driver\, Cliff worked steadily on his music throughout the 80’s\, doing solo gigs and studio work\, and playing guitar on the road with Richie Havens\, Melanie and others. Singing advertising jingles for products like Coke\, Miller Beer and Chevrolet (“The Heartbeat of America” campaign) allowed him to devote more time to his songwriting. \nIn 1990 Cliff’s song “My Father’s Shoes\,” appeared on Windham Hill’s Legacy collection\, leading to a deal with the label. They released Cliff’s first album\, The Long Road (1990)\, a work featuring a duet with Richie Havens. The critical response to this debut was outstanding (The Philadelphia Inquirer called the album a “repeatedly astounding collection”). He followed with two more records on Windham Hill before releasing 12 Songs of Good and Evil (1997) on Red House Records\, which stemmed from a chance meeting with Red House founder Bob Feldman at John Gorka’s wedding. Cliff recorded two more albums before his critically acclaimed The High Above and the Down Below\, named the #5 album of 2007 by USA Today. Produced by legendary musician and Red House Records president Eric Peltoniemi\, it was recorded in Minneapolis with noted jazz players Gordy Johnson\, J. T. Bates and Rich Dworsky and was his first album after spending several years recovering from a car accident. \nWith a new lease on life and a fresh batch of songs\, Cliff embarked on what has turned out to be an artistic renaissance. Recorded in the Texas Hill Country\, Cliff’s 2009 album 500 Miles: The Blue Rock Sessions may be his finest to date. An intimate album of powerful originals and unique covers\, it features a reworking of his hit “The Long Road\,” a song made more poignant after nearly two decades of touring and recording. Long one of the most respected songwriters on the club scene\, his peers often mine his catalog for themselves. Cliff’s song “Memphis” was included on Cry Cry Cry\, an album of collaborative covers by the “folk supergroup” of the same name (comprised of Dar Williams\, Lucy Kaplansky and Richard Shindell). Other performers who have recorded his songs include Richie Havens\, Shawn Colvin\, Russ Taff and Buffy Sainte Marie. A collection of his songs has been published in The Cliff Eberhardt Songbook (Cherry Lane Publishing). \nIn 2011\, Cliff got a phone call from the Folger Theatre and Shakespeare Library in Washington DC. They had been listening to his song\, “That Kind of Love” along with director Aaron Posner and got the brilliant idea to hire Cliff to write original songs for the Shakespeare classic “The Taming of the Shrew”. It would be set in the old West – Deadwood style – and Cliff would be cast as the blind but wise old saloon singer bookending scenes with his poignant songs and guitar phrases. The play was a huge success and won much critical acclaim across town and 7 weeks of solid sold-out shows in the Spring of 2012.  In 2013\, Cliff was awarded a coveted Helen Hayes Award for Sound Design and the cast won for Best Ensemble. Some of the songs on Shrew Songs are from Cliff’s past work and some are brand new. The stripped down production enhances the immediate intimacy of Cliff’s songwriting. You don’t have to have seen the play to love this record! It’s available for sale now only through this website or at Cliff’s shows.  – See more at: http://www.cliffeberhardt.com/bio/#sthash.NsR1oSzy.dpuf \n“LOUISE MOSRIE may well be the brightest young folk-oriented artist to emerge from Nashville in many a year. On her second release her pure\, expressive voice delivers the songs with the perfect balance of expressiveness and direction. Better still\, the exquisite\, very low key production keeps Mosrie’s voice out front and shining. This is Mosrie with a few well chosen\, subtle accompanists. A pleasing aspect of this CD is its ideal mix of personal songs and songs outside of Mosrie’s own life\, such as song set in the Civil War and one about a young girl leaving home for the larger world in 1920 and coming to grief. In my book\, Mosrie’s song “Singing My Heart Out” alone is worth buying this CD.”– Rich Warren – WFMT-FM “Midnight Special” Chicago (Dec 7\, 2014) \nPLEASE CALL TO RESERVE.

She went on to record her own album in 1973 on MCA/UNI Records\, with the late Lowell George of Little Feat as her producer. With the success of that release\, she opened for such bands as Yes\, Poco\, and the J Geils Band. \nWhile recording her second album\, Tret became interested in sound engineering\, learning the trade and becoming one of the first women engineers in LA. Over the course of her career she has engineered and produced countless recordings by a variety of artists\, including her own work \nIn the early 80s\, Tret left the mainstream music industry. SUMMARY:THE SUITCASE JUNKET
DESCRIPTION:Don’t miss the amazing MATT LORENZ as the SUITCASE JUNKET. Vote early\, and relax with some extraordinary music before results are in. \nTHE SUITCASE JUNKET is a one-man tour de force out of Western Massachusetts. Matt has been road dogging for three years\, solo and with his band Rusty Belle\, touring with Chris Smithers\, David Wax Museum\, and Peter Mulvey.   \nRemember the first day you heard The Suitcase Junket…his songwriting is extraordinary… this is one of the most exciting records I’ve heard in years.” -Vin Scelsa of Idiot’s Delight on WFUV and Sirius/XM \n“Armed with vintage 1950s amps and a guitar he salvaged from a dumpster\, an old\, oversized suitcase he plays with his heel as a bass drum\, a baby shoe hitting a gas can\, a cook pot\, a circular saw blade and a box of bones and silverware for added percussion\, he let it rip! In my favorite session of the year\, The Suitcase Junket performs ‘Earth Apple’ from his latest album\, Make Time.” – Linda Fahey\, NPR’s Favorite Sessions of 2015 \nThe Suitcase Junket will release his Signature Sounds debut\, Dying Star\, on March 4th. The 7- song E.P. features five songs recorded during the making of Lorenz’s acclaimed 2015 album\, Make Time\, and two live tracks recorded at Northampton MA’s The Parlor Room. With Dying Star\, The Suitcase Junket is poised to make the jump from one of New England’s best-kept roots star secrets\, to a household name. \nArtist\, tinkerer\, tunesmith\, swamp Yankee\, Matt Lorenz is a one-man salvage specialist singing into the hollow of a Dumpster guitar\, slipping a broken bottleneck onto the slide finger\, railing on a box of twisted forks and bones\, rocking till every sound is ragged at its edges\, till the house is singing back. Then\, unplugging all the amps and letting one mountain ballad soar over the raw strings on that guitar. On top of all this is the ethereal edge of his overtone throat-singing. \nEvery night is a hard-driving\, blues-grinding\, throat-singing search-and-rescue junket. Sooner or later everything rusts\, busts\, and gets tossed into the junk heap: iron\, bones\, leather\, hot rods\, muskrats\, the night\, the heart. The goal is to recover it. To waste nothing. To create new ways from old. This is The Suitcase Junket. \nMatt Lorenz was raised in Cavendish\, Vermont\, the son of teachers. He learned to sing by copying his sister Kate. (The siblings are two-thirds of the touring trio Rusty Belle.) Lorenz graduated from Hampshire College in Amherst\, Massachusetts\, in 2004\, having taught himself to throat-sing thanks to a South Indian cooking class. On moving day\, he pulled his guitar\, filled with mold and worse for wear\, from a dorm Dumpster. He fixed it up and started pulling songs out of it. That was the beginning. \nThe Suitcase Junket is filling rooms and drawing festival crowds all over his native New England and beyond\, from Signal Kitchen near the Canadian border to Wisconsin’s Mile of Music Festival\, from Ireland’s pubs to Mountain Jam in the Catskills\, from opening nights for Lake Street Dive and Charlie Musselwhite to Mountain Stage in West Virginia. He caught the attention of National Public Radio who chose his video session for “Earth Apple” from his 2015 album Make Time as one of the year’s favorite sessions. \nMatt has self-released three albums prior to Dying Star: Sever and Lift (2009) and Knock It Down. (2011) and Make Time (2015). \n“Make Time truly travels to various destinations of musical fortitude and emotion[…]It’s one hell of a ride that holds its resonance well after the record has stopped spinning.” – No Depression. \n“If croons could kill\, this one-man band would be a bounty hunter. Armed with a unique\, self-sufficient approach to raw instrumentation\, The Suitcase Junket is an artisan of song\, bending\, forging and sharpening each piece into an emotional tool.” -Performer Magazine. \nPlease call to reserve.

Owens www.4twk – international music \n“This inspiring artist defies categories by blending folk and country with rock and jazz”\n-Kim Wheeler\, Rockford Register Star  \n“Surely a cutting-edge singer/songwriter of tomorrow\, Ernie Hendrickson lives enough in the past to keep what Bob Dylan\, James Taylor and Kris Kristofferson have done alive and thriving for generations.”\n-Jim Hagerty\, Rock River Times  \n“His music easily justifies the mention of his name in the same context as\, dare-it-be-said\, genre power house Ryan Adams.”\nFady Khalil – Jambands.com \n“Dark and pretty songs. Ernie Hendrickson is finding a niche in the indie folk Americana segment. He is a storyteller like Harry Nilsson in a country mood.”\n– Hans Werksman\, Here Comes The Flood \n“Whether exploring tribal beats or graceful homegrown country hymnals\, E. Hendrickson stretches the song-writing pallet. He is drawing influences from Gram Parsons’ Burrito Brothers\, straight through the heart of the America’s Blues tradition.”\n– Martin Halo\, JamBase \nFor ERNIE HENDRICKSON\, the hill country is as much a state of mind as a physical locale\, as the deep but beautifully casual songs on his new One for the Dreamers eloquently remind us. In the hill country of Ernie’s imagination\, the high ground provides an elevated vantage point that enables his listeners to perceive how time can leave important matters unfinished\, or tie up loose ends with sometimes heartbreaking finality. Yet the hill country is\, of course\, a real place\, and where Ernie comes from. The Wisconsin native grew up in what’s called that state’s Driftless Area\, where Midwestern flatness gives way to a more rounded landscape\, so it’s natural that that he chose to record One for the Dreamers nestled among the neatly arranged hills of Middle Tennessee. \nRecorded at Lamplight Studios in rural Primm Springs\, Tenn.\, 2013’s One for the Dreamers was anchored by producer-drummer Chad Cromwell (Neil Young\, Mark Knopfler)\, songwriter-producer-bassist Kevin “Swine” Grantt (Brad Paisley\, Jamey Johnson\, Willie Nelson)\, and Pete Wasner (Vince Gill) on piano\, organ\, and wurlitzer. Special guests include legendary harmonica player Mickey Raphael (Willie Nelson\, Guy Clark)\, pianist Reese Wynans (Stevie Ray Vaughan\, Buddy Guy)\, and rising Americana singer-songwriter Lera Lynn on harmony vocals. \nThere’s a concordance of topography and emotion at work in the new record that comes out of Ernie’s life as a traveling musician and an intuitive record maker—Midwestern openness meets Nashville experience\, you could say. Like the great American singers and songwriters who have inspired him—performers such as Neil Young\, Jerry Garcia and Willie Nelson—Ernie seeks the light amidst the ever-present perils of darkness. \nBorn and raised in the Midwest\, Ernie Hendrickson grew up on a steady diet of Willie Nelson\, Bob Dylan\, Neil Young\, Cat Stevens\, and Jerry Garcia. These early heroes opened the gates to the deep well of American roots music which he continues to draw inspiration from. In 2007 he self-produced and released a highly acclaimed solo record\, Down the Road\, of which the Illinois Entertainer deemed “Groundbreaking” and pushed him straight onto the Midwest’s radar as an emerging singer-songwriter. Hendrickson set the talent bar high in the studio for this album with a cast of players that included the subtle and angelic backing vocals of his sister\, Kelly Hendrickson\, and the legendary harmonica player\, Howard Levy (Bela Fleck & The Flecktones\, Paul Simon)\, aligned with an all-star group of Chicago musicians. \nHendrickson’s second record\, Walking with Angels\, began with a chance meeting between Ernie and veteran producer Bo Ramsey (Greg Brown\, Lucinda Williams) in the spring of ’08 in Iowa City\, where Ernie was opening a show for an old friend of Bo’s\, Kevin Gordon. Even in early conversation\, the two agreed that there was a chemistry evolving that would only deepen once the sessions began. At Bo’s urging\, Ernie sang and played nearly all of the songs on the record with a live band which consisted of Bo\, Jon Penner on bass (Junior Brown\, Bo Ramsey)\, and Steve Hayes on drums (Greg Brown\, Bo Ramsey). This call was made by Bo to try and capture the energy of a great performance and the result could not have been better. All twelve songs on the record feel as though these four guys had been playing together for years. After adding legendary Chicago pedal steel player Brian Wilkie (Alison Krauss\, Pam Tillis) on several tracks\, Bob Black’s banjo (Bill Monroe)\, and taking a trip to Nashville to record keyboardist Kevin McKendree (Delbert McClinton)\, the record shines as a true testament to Hendrickson’s ripening powers as a songwriter. Radio promotion has taken the sophomore album’s success to a higher level on both AAA and Americana stations\, having spent over 25 weeks in the Top 20 on Roots Music Report’s Folk charts and in regular rotation at nearly 100 different stations across the country including Nashville’s award-winning WSM-AM The Legend. \n

SUMMARY:THE BRIAR PICKERS
DESCRIPTION:The Briar Pickers are a violin/mandolin duet consisting of mandolinist Brian Ray and fiddler Paul Kienitz\, melding traditional Appalachian folk melodies with classical chamber music sensibilities. \nThis conversational paradigm is the thread woven through the coupling of old-time ‘rustic’ properties with the intrinsic chamber music approach; being that of constructed or made in a plain and simple fashion and a small number of performers\, with one performer to a part. Resulting is their self-dubbed “rustic chamber music”…a collage of sounds evoking imagery and emotions that take the players and audience on a journey together to different times and places. \nThe duet is enchanced to a quartet with the addition of special guest Starr Moss (guitar) who has recently wrapped up a three year tenure with Chicago’s Henhouse Prowlers and the superlative Jon Peik on bass and banjo. \nPlease call to reserve.

SUMMARY:KIM RICHEY
DESCRIPTION:KIM RICHEY \n“[Kim Richey] would rule the charts in a land where Marshall Crenshaw was king\, Aimee Mann queen\, and the The Beatles never put out another record after Revolver.” Steve Horowitz\, popmatters.com \n“Richey entices you with sad and unembellished music that reveals an original spirit – and then she ensnares you for keeps by making you consider all the noiseless sensations that no songs can ever contain.” Timothy White\, Billboard Magazine \nThose artists who find themselves stuck in the deepest of ruts two decades into their careers could learn a thing or two from veteran singer-songwriter Kim Richey. She’s never been afraid to go where the inspiration is. \nTwo-time Grammy-nominated Kim is a storyteller; a weaver of emotions and a tugger of heartstrings. Tender\, poetic and aching with life’s truths\, Kim’s songs transport you to her world\, where words paint pictures and melodies touch the soul. And then there’s her voice. Pure\, arresting and honest\, it makes you take notice; Kim has the kind of voice where if emotions were ribbons\, they’d be streaming in rainbow colours from your iPod. \nEarly on\, the Zanesville\, Ohio native thrived on the progressive side of mainstream country\, her albums (1995’s Kim Richey\, 1997’s Bittersweet and 1999’s Glimmer\, all on Mercury) showcasing twang-pop sensibilities\, a rich\, rounded vocal tone and effortlessly sophisticated songwriting that other discerning performers – Radney Foster\, Trisha Yearwood and Pam Tillis to name a few – coveted for their own recordings. \nIn the years since\, Kim has made her subtly psychedelic album Rise (Lost Highway) in Los Angeles with producer Bill Bottrell\, flown to London to enlist the help of Giles Martin and emerging with the crisply orchestrated Chinese Boxes (Vanguard) and turned to her East Nashville-based bandleader and frequent co-writer Neilson Hubbard to conjure the earthy indie-pop feel of Wreck Your Wheels (Lojinx/Thirty Tigers) and to complete her latest masterpiece of smart\, sensual understatement Thorn In My Heart (Lojinx/Yep Roc). \nThe array of top-tier guests on the album include Jason Isbell\, Wilco’s Pat Sansone\, My Morning Jacket’s Carl Broemel\, Will Kimbrough and Yearwood\, who was\, for the first time\, returning the harmony-singing favor. And the dozen songs themselves show that Richey’s still dreaming up fetching melodies that arc and bend in unexpected ways\, and still discovering fresh angles from which to articulate matters of the heart. \nPlease call to reserve.

SUMMARY:PERRY BAIRD\, JEFF MASON\, and TOM COOK
DESCRIPTION:Fort Atkinson’s own Perry Baird\, Tom Cook (TC) and Jeff Mason will embark on their second performance together\, joined this time by Fort violinist Erica Flyte on a number of songs. Perry and Tom are officially retired from their former day jobs\, and Jeff is about half-way there. They are all getting a little long in the tooth and slow off the couch\, but their fingers are almost as nimble as ever. The boys will wind their way through traditional folk and fiddle tunes (this time with Erica actually providing fiddle) and whatever else they can remember. Perry and Jeff play guitar(s) and Perry does most of the singing. TC seems to be bringing a collection of (mostly) four and eight-stringed wooden instruments and will be making his second sojourn onto the Carpe stage\, with some tasty instrumentals promised. Quite honestly\, the whole thing is a work-in-progress and the old geezers are just as anxious as anyone else to hear what happens\, particularly with the addition of Erica’s sweet violin to the mix. \nThey’ll wind their way through a mix of contemporary and traditional folk\, pop\, and blues tunes\, plus a few novelties of highly suspect origin. \nPlease call to reserve.

SUMMARY:ANNE HILLS
DESCRIPTION:ANNE HILLS has become one of the better known voices of the contemporary folk music scene\, receiving awards and recognition for her live performances (2009 Bound for Glory live radio show favorite- Ithaca\, NY)\, her unique solo and collaborative recording projects (2001 WAMMIE for duet CD with Tom Paxton\, Under American Skies)\, and her overall artistry and benefit work (2002 Kate Wolf Award\, Carole Robertson Award & Kerrville Female Vocalist of the Year 1997). Her song “Follow That Road” was the title cut of the Martha’s Vineyard Songwriter Retreat and has enchanted audiences for over a decade. \nWhether she is singing her own song\, the words of 6 year old Opal Whiteley\, or the Hoosier poet James Whitcomb Riley; accompanied with her guitar\, banjo\, or simply a Tibetan bell\, she puts her whole heart and soul into the moment. So\, even if you haven’t become familiar with her voice (featured often on XM/Sirius Folk Radio\, The Midnight Special & many other folk shows) you won’t want to miss a chance to witness in person her warm\, lively and humorous performance. \n“A stunning soprano tone has made Anne Hills one of contemporary music’s premiere vocalists … Her knack for writing heartfelt songs [has] brought her to the upper echelon of her craft.” -AllMusic Guide   \n“Anne Hills is such an exquisite singer that it’s understandable that people might be swept up in the pure beauty of her voice and thereby overlook her writing. That would be a mistake. For me\, Anne’s writing\, in songs like ‘Follow That Road’ and many others\, is as direct\, melodic and deep as any work being done today. She is quite simply one of my absolute favorite songwriters.” -Tom Paxton   \nPlease call to reserve.

SUMMARY:COLIN O'BRIEN/ STELLANOVAS
DESCRIPTION:Colin is again sharing the evening with his talented friends the Stellanovas\,  Chris Wagoner and Mary Gaines.  They pack a lot of music and fun into a performance. \nBanjo\, fiddle\, guitar\, footboard playin’ COLIN O’BRIEN‘s\, latest release\, “After a Song”\, was recorded in Nashville with some of music city’s best pickers: Larry Perkins\, Matt Combs\, Mark Howard and Dennis Crouch. Those boys were so enthralled with Colin they urged him to move there\, which he and his wife\, after a bit of consideration (1 or 2 minutes)\, did. \nIt was in the summer of 2011 that Nashville music legend Larry Perkins heard Colin’s set at the John Hartford Memorial Festival. Larry was side-struck. He immediately invited him down to Nashville make a record. The result\, After A Song\, features 12 of Colin’s originals and a band comprised of some of the late John Hartford’s band mates. \n“After A Song…Bottles the lighting that was John Hartford’s engagingly off-center songwriting” – Jon Weisberger\, The Nashville Scene. \nIn addition to his solo song and dance\, Mr. O’Brien performs withThe Nashville Stringy-Band\, an acoustic super-group featuring Matt Combs on fiddle\, Mike Compton on mandolin and Todd Phillips on bass. \nOriginally a jazz-guitar major at the University of WI-Stevens Point\, MARY GAINES truly found her musical voice studying jazz cello under the tutelage of the great Richard Davis (bass player with artists ranging from Sarah Vaughn to Van Morrison) at the UW-Madison. Mary is also known for her amazing voice–often compared to Bonnie Raitt but definitely her own. She (along with her husband\, Chris) has done extensive work as a session musician\, appearing on albums such as Smashing Pumpkin’s Gish\, several Freedy Johnston\, Willy Porter\, and Carrie Newcomer albums\, and scores of others. \nA founding member of Madison’s Harmonious Wail\, The Common Faces\, The Bob Westfall Quartet\, and The Moon Gypsies (the latter three co-founded with Mary Gaines)\, CHRIS WAGONER has had his foot in just about every musical circle in Madison. Classically trained as a violinist\, (he also plays ukulele\, hawaiian guitar\, accordion)\, he met Mary while attending the UW-Madison. Switching to an alternating diet of jazz and classical violin studies\, while playing in bands ranging from rock\, blues\, bluegrass\, and country\, to folk and jazz\, Chris has been an in-demand performer and session musician in the region for almost two decades. \nPlease call to reserve.

SUMMARY:ALBERT LEE BAND- SOLD OUT
DESCRIPTION:Show is SOLD OUT.   Click on Buy tickets if you want to put a note in the Discussion section there indicating that you would like some if anyone cannot use theirs.\n\n\n  \nKnown for his signature Ernie Ball guitar and lightning speed picking\, ALBERT LEE has not only worked with some of the biggest names in music but he has also maintained a solo career of his own.  Bill could not believe our good fortune (and yours) when he got the request for Albert to play our little room. Albert will be accompanied by his band\, J.T. Thomas on keyboards\, Will McGregor on bass\, and Jason Harrison Smith on drums. \n“ONE OF THE FINEST GUITAR PLAYERS WHO EVER WALKED THIS EARTH…”Vince Gill \nAlbert was born on December 21\, 1943 in Herefordshire\, England\, before moving and growing up in Blackheath\, London. He was first introduced to music with the piano\, taking lessons aged seven\, learning the classics and pop tunes before the likes of Jerry Lee Lewis inspired him to take up guitar. \nAlbert was treated one Christmas to a Hofner President acoustic arch-top\, and from there he never looked back. Spurred on by the recordings of Jimmy Bryant\, Buddy Holly and The Crickets\, Gene Vincent and The Everly Brothers\, Albert left school at sixteen and turned pro\, getting regular gigs at the 2 i’s Coffee Bar and The Flamingo Club in London – first with Bob Xavier’s band\, and then with The Jury. He replaced Jimmy Page in The Crusaders before joining Chris Farlowe and The Thunderbirds in ‘64. \n\n\n\n\n\nHe soon found his favoured guitar of choice\, the Fender Telecaster\, whilst everyone else was playing Gibson Les Pauls and Stratocasters. Albert admitted to feeling like the odd man out as his appreciation for American country artists grew\, and he formed the band Country Fever. He began working with Poet & The One Man Band\, who later turned into Heads\, Hands & Feet when Jerry Donahue and Pat Donaldson (of Country Fever) were replaced by Albert and Chas Hodges. Their self-titled debut album featured the original “Country Boy”\, now synonymous with Albert’s trademark picking style. \nThe U.S eventually beckoned\, and Albert began doing session work and briefly toured with The Crickets in 1973. He moved to Los Angeles\, where he met his idols Phil and Don Everly\, and Don invited Albert to play with him and pedal steel legend Buddy Emmons. After working on Don’s second album\, Albert left to join Joe Cocker’s band and was replaced by Lindsey Buckingham. \nAlbert’s reputation was growing as he moved to Encino\, and met his wife Karen whilst rehearsing up in Santa Barbara with Joe Cocker and his band before they went on the road. He contributed to Cocker’s “Sting Ray”\, and was then approached by A&M about putting together a solo album. \nAt a pivotal point in his career\, Albert was asked by Emmylou Harris to replace James Burton – one of his guitar heroes – who was leaving for Elvis Presley’s band. In 1976 he joined the Hot Band\, and his incredible guitar work came to the fore on the “Luxury Liner” LP. Albert released his first solo album “Hiding”\, produced by Brian Ahern\, which featured perhaps the definite version of “Country Boy” with Emmylou on backing vocals and Ricky Skaggs on fiddle. \nWhen he returned to London in 1978 for session recording\, Albert met Eric Clapton. He was invited to join his band and played on Clapton’s live album “Just One Night”\, which featured Albert on lead vocals for a cover of Mark Knopfler’s “Setting Me Up”. Albert would work with Eric for five years before he left and released his second solo album\, the self-titled “Albert Lee” in 1982. \nAlbert fulfilled his boyhood dream to play with the Everly Brothers in 1983 when he acted as guitarist and musical director for their reunion concert at the Royal Albert Hall. Since then he would regularly tour with the Everlys on and off for 20 years. After two instrumental albums – “Speechless” (1986) and “Gagged But Not Bound” (1987) – steel player Gerry Hogan invited Albert to headline at a festival in Newbury\, England – fronting his own band for the very first time\, Hogan’s Heroes. \nAs Albert toured with Hogan’s Heroes through the late 80s\, he began his long association with Ernie Ball Music Man\, who would eventually (through many iterations) produce his signature guitar that he tours and records with today. In 2002 he would join Eric Clapton\, Tom Petty\, Paul McCartney and other music legends on stage at the Concert for George at the Royal Albert Hall. \nAlbert also received a Grammy Award in 2002 for his contribution to “Foggy Mountain Breakdown” featured on “Earl Scruggs and Friends”. He appeared for the first time at Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival in 2007\, now an annual appearance\, and has toured periodically for the last few years with ex-Stones bassist Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Kings\, performing with Georgie Fame. Joining his hero James Burton\, along with the likes of Vince Gill and John Jorgenson\, Albert won a Grammy for his performance on Brad Paisley’s instrumental “Cluster Pluck” in 2009. \nClick on Buy tickets to purchase tickets:

SUMMARY:LONESOME BILL CAMPLIN
DESCRIPTION:Bill was lonely\, so we added this show. \nComing off the high of a soldout show of the Occasional Quartet at the Stoughton Opera House\, he should be in good form. \nBill has been an integral part of the Wisconsin acoustic music scene for many years both as a performer and as co-owner of the legendary Cafe Carpe in Fort Atkinson\, where one can get legendary’s disease. Bill is a strong guitarist with a beautiful tenor voice and he is noted for intensely emotional performances of both his original songs and his interpretations of others such as Bob Dylan.
