SUMMARY:JOHN SIEGER/ DANDY L. FRELING/ BILL CAMPLIN
DESCRIPTION:Please call 920-563-9391 to reserve seats\, and to indicate whether you are likely to eat here that night. \nThis will be a great song swap with three Milwaukee ish songwriters\, since Bill was once one. In these swaps\, each one inspires the next and it makes for a really fun evening. \nSongwriter\, singer and guitarist John Sieger has a long resume. His band the R&B Cadets ruled the dance floors in Milwaukee in the 1980s\, playing a mix of his originals and obscure soul tunes unearthed by bandmates Paul Cebar and Robin Pluer. Their debut\, “Top Happy\,” for Twin/Tone Records\, turned out to be their finale. In the late 80’s his band Semi-Twang recorded for Warner Brothers Records. Both bands have regrouped in recent years and since then\, Semi-Twang has released three more collections of his songs\, most recently and ode to his hometown\, “Kenosha.” \nOther Sieger songs have been covered by a long list of great artists including Dwight Yoakam (Don’t Need It Done)\, Jerry Harrison of Talking Heads (Rev It Up)\, The Bodeans (The Strangest Kind)\, Flaco Jimenez (I Found Out)\, Robbie Fulks (You Break It – You Pay)\, Phil Lee (I Hope Love Always Knows Your Name\, Neon Tombstone) and Greg Trooper (My Bluebell\, Real Like That and others). Recorded but still waiting to be released\, is a version of “Salty Tears\,” sung by Etta James. \n“Sieger on Songs\,” his column at UrbanMilwaukee.com\, is John’s ongoing love letter to the music he digs. \nDANDY FRELING   \nCombining a touch of the high and lonesome hollers of the Appalachian hill people with the low-down\, dusty grooves of the cosmic cowboys\, Dandy has created a unique sonic banquet sure to satisfy the hunger of any weary passerby. \nand then there’s BILL CAMPLIN- I just googled him and found it rather interesting. The bittersweetest surprise was coming across the obituary of a formerly regular customer which contained the following: \n“He wished to thank Townes Van Zandt\, Emmylou Harris and Bill Camplin for their music he so enjoyed in his later years.”

SUMMARY:SISTASTRINGS/ Evan Lane
DESCRIPTION:SISTASTRINGS.  Need I say more?.  They are so sizzlin’  we had to add this extra show. Ticket link after the bio. \nCHAUNTEE ROSS (violin & vocals) & MONIQUE ROSS (cello and vocals) said they wanted to play here again. We thought about it for a while\, and said yes\, just because they are the bomb diggity. \nMilwaukee bred sisters\, Monique and Chauntee Ross\, spent their entire music education not quite fitting any particular mold. Raised by two ministers\, enrolled in conservatory at young ages\, Monique and Chauntee embraced what made them different. Their art is meant to reflect their varying musical interests in a way that draws the listener in. Music becomes a journey and SistaStrings invites you to find your path. \nCollaboration has been at the forefront of SistaStrings’ art. The sisters grew up playing their instruments in the church which is where their love of harmonies and improvisation was cultivated. Their entire childhood was immersed in music and making music with their peers in many different settings. It wasn’t until 2014 when both Monique and Chauntee moved back to their hometown\, Milwaukee\, WI when they began this project. They began exploring their sound as SistaStrings and collaborating with a variety of Milwaukee artist and found a strong creative community. \nDuring their “discovery phase”\, SistaStrings met and began to collaborate with fellow Milwaukeean Peter Mulvey. They’ve recorded two albums together\, one of which is being released in 2022. 2021 opened a new chapter for the duo as they relocated to Nashville. They quickly found a sisterhood with Allison Russell and became family and collaborators. They are members of The Rainbow Coalition of the Loving\, Russell’s touring band. Monique and Chauntee can also be found touring with Brandi Carlile Spring/Summer 2022. It’s no coincidence that collaboration is a strong point for the sisters. They believe that music and the arts reflect life and use their music to create opportunity for others and promote love and acceptance. \nFriend Evan Lane will open for them. Evan was born and raised in Milwaukee\, Wisconsin. A true ‘Midwestern-er.’ He began his classical training in 4th grade\, 1999. Before that his first gig was singing with his school choir at age 6 at a Starbucks for the Holidays. Evan spent some time living in East Troy\, WI.\, where he wrote every song off his newly released ep\, ‘Etude.’ He moved back to Milwaukee in 2016 and has been hard at work taking gigs and spending every minute possible recording his ep. Known for his smooth vocals and beautiful singer-songwriter\, pop styled music.

SUMMARY:THE BOSTON IMPOSTERS
DESCRIPTION:Please call 920-563-9391 to reserve seats\, and indicate whether you are likely to dine here that evening. \n“Hearkening back to the traditional folk duos of the 1950s and 1960s\, The Boston Imposters represent the genre at its most pure: two capable voices\, supported by sparse-yet-effective instrumentation\, working together to earnestly share stories anyone can relate to.” – Elena See\, FolkAlley.com \nTHE BOSTON IMPOSTERS are a husband-wife singer-songwriter duo based in Southeast Wisconsin. Davey Harrison and Maire (pronounced like Mary) Clement began collaborating many years prior\, but their duo was officially founded during their time living as Midwestern Impostors in Boston. The duo blend beautiful harmonies\, accompanied by acoustic guitar\, mandolin\, and banjo to craft heartfelt original songs. Inspired by traditional\, classic and contemporary folk music\, The Boston Imposters write about their lives and experiences\, inspired by the people who have been a part of their journey. \nThis show is on the heels of the December release of their new album\, Insiders.

SUMMARY:GRACE MORRISON & RADOSLAV LORKOVIC
DESCRIPTION:Ticket link is below the bios. \nGrace & Rad got together at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival\, where she was performing and he was in the house band. They decided they should do a midwest tour together\, and here they come. \nGRACE MORRISON\n“Her voice smacks of Jewel\, and her style\, cadence\, song structure is every inch from the school of Joan Osborne\, Lisa Loeb\, Natalie Merchant. It’s uncanny.” Lauren Daley Boston Globe \n“Pure Country Rock ‘n Roll Goodness”- Americana Highways \nMorrison has won a number of prestigious awards including the Grand Prize of the New England Songwriting Competition and the WPRI Rhode Show Big Break contest – where her music video was played on the season finale of American Idol. In 2019\, Grace was selected to be an Official Showcase performer at the Southeast Regional Folk Alliance (TN) and the Southwest Regional Folk Alliance (TX). Also\, she was named a finalist in the Wildflower (TX) Festival performing singer-songwriter contest. Later\, she was selected to perform in the Emerging Artist Showcase at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival (NY). Her sophomore solo album\, Reasons\, debuted at #2 on the Roots Music Report’s Top 50 Contemporary Country Airplay Chart. With Daughter now added to her calling card\, Morrison is sure to rack up more accolades. But she’s happy to have finally reached a point of self-acceptance\, regardless of what may come. \nDrawing from a multitude of influences ranging from elegant classical and jazz styles to the rawest\, most basic blues\, country and soul\, RADOSLAV LORKOVIC has taken on an unusually broad musical spectrum and refined it into his distinctive piano style. His tenure on the R&B and folk circuits has culminated in five critically acclaimed solo recordings and numerous appearances on the recordings of and performances with artists including Odetta\, Jimmy LaFave\, Ribbon of Highway Woody Guthrie Tribute\, Greg Brown\, Richard Shindell\, Ellis Paul\, Ronny Cox\, Dave Moore\, Andy White\, and Bo Ramsey. His thirty year touring career has led him from the taverns of the upper Mississippi River to the castles of Italy\, The Canary Islands\, The Yup’ik villages of Alaska\, The Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall. \nBorn in Zagreb\, Croatia in 1958\, Lorković’s initial exposure to music can be attributed to two grandmothers. Antonija\, his maternal Grandmother\, sang him Croatian\, Slovenian and Czech folk songs since birth. At age one he was reported to be singing back on pitch. By age three he was putting on floor shows for his grandfather and friends who would respond by showering him with coins yelling “pivaj Radoslav pivaj!” During this time classical music played in the home constantly due to the influence of his paternal grandmother Melita Lorković\, a internationally renown classical pianist. After this blend of central European musical influences Radoslav moved to the United States at age six. He had a foothold on a classical music career when at age fourteen he was sidetracked by a blues scale that a friend had taught him.

SUMMARY:LONG MAMA/ JASON DEA WEST
DESCRIPTION:Ticket link will follow the bios. \nLONG MAMA \nLong Mama’s music blisters with the heart and grit of someone who has lost hard\, loved harder\, and licked her burns until they stung then silvered. In a drafty attic just west of the Milwaukee River she grew up on\, you’ll find songwriter KAT WODTKE (Wood-key) raking through notebooks in search of a salve: words\, stories\, and sounds to temper the dumpster fires we never mean to light. \nKAT teams up with guitarist ANDREW KOENIG and drummer NICK LANG\, a pair whose chemistry adds dusky afterglow to Wodtke’s musical landscapes\, as well as upright bass ace SAM ODIN from Horsehoes and Hand Grenades. \nPoor Pretender\, Long Mama’s debut album released October 2022\, embraces a rich spectrum of light and shadow\, heat and cold. The ten-song collection’s palette of country\, folk\, indie rock\, and punk reflects its makers’ coming-of-age in the rustbelt crossroads of north\, south\, east\, & west. Engineered by Erik Koskinen and recorded live over a long\, snowy weekend in Cleveland\, Minnesota\, the record showcases the band’s particular ability to conjure the beautiful in the broken\, the silver in the ore. \nJASON DEA WEST American poet\, songwriter and troubadour  (Folk\, country\, western\, traditional and alternative)  will start the show. He is an American troubadour who sings what he lives and lives what he sings. West’s poignant lyrics are brilliantly blended with vintage country\, folk and blues\, and timely sensibilities. From epic guitar and harmonica instrumentals to humorous song as story\, Jason never strays very far from the anarchic punk-folk roots of his beloved former band Barefoot Surrender and his celebrated current band Intuitive Compass.

SUMMARY:TIM GRIMM- album release
DESCRIPTION:Ticket link is below bio. \nTIM GRIMM is a bit of a Renaissance man in the performing arts world. He has for the past 20 years blended his love for songwriting\, travel\, and the storytelling of acting (theatre\, film and television). Tim’s new album\, THE LITTLE IN-BETWEEN (March 2023)\, is an evocative evolution from his previous albums – and his most personal to date\, written in three intense months during the winter of 2021-22. This album traces his travel between the hills of southern Indiana and the Oklahoma prairie – and his internal journey from a rich past to an unexpected future – using a first-person voice in every song to illuminate a deep inner territory that historically remained more submerged in his work. This fertile creative year also yielded forays into visual art\, with Tim using pastels and charcoal to create striking folk-art style triptychs\, pieces of which now form the visual art featured on the new album cover and booklet. \nFrom 2019– HEART LAND AGAIN revisits a renowned collection of songs from 20 years ago…. A STRANGER IN THIS TIME (2017)\, In the Fall of 2016 he recorded the single- WOODY’S LANDLORD– which was the #1 song on Folk Radio for the year. Tim’s previous recording\, THE TURNING POINT\, produced the #1 song on Folk radio in 2014– KING OF THE FOLKSINGERS. It was a particularly gratifying honor\, given the song is a tribute to Tim’s friend and musical icon\, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott. Tim’s history with Ramblin’ Jack goes back 30 years– beginning with a bicycle ride that led to The Newport Folk Festival…. Tim contributing liner notes to Jack’s Grammy winning album\, The South Coast (1995)… Jack’s recording Buffalo Skinners with Tim on Tim’s album\, Coyote’s Dream (2003)….and now\, most recently KING OF THE FOLKSINGERS. \nComplete bio on Tim’s website.

Co-led by real-deal Chicago blues vocalist and songwriter OSCAR WILSON and  songwriter\, harmonica giant and singer JOE NOSEK\, the band plays masterfully raw and unvarnished houserocking blues. Wilson’s huge\, gritty vocals and Nosek’s powerhouse harmonica fuel their razor-sharp original songs. BILLY FLYNN will be making it a trio with his masterful guitar playing. \nMixing tough Chicago and Delta blues\, jumping proto-rock ‘n’ roll\, and steamrolling “bluesabilly” (their original mix of Chicago blues and Memphis rockabilly)\, they attack every song they play with contemporary authority and old school authenticity.  With their top shelf musicianship and trademark good humor\, the Cash Box Kings are a one-of-a-kind blues band. SUMMARY:CLAUDIA SCHMIDT
DESCRIPTION:Ticket information is below the bio. \nCLAUDIA SCHMIDT has been perfecting her craft of performing for almost four decades. It is a quirky and wonderful hodge-podge (her word!) of music\, poetry\, story\, laughter. drama\, and celebrating the moment. Work in clubs\, theaters\, festivals\, TV\, radio has added depth and dimension\, and since she has always included her original work along with very personal versions of the work of others\, what you get is a unique look at the world from someone who says what she sees with clarity\, humor\, and wonder. \nThe San Francisco Bay Guardian said: Schmidt’s shows are a lot like falling in love. You never know what’s going to happen next\, chances are it’s going to be wonderful\, every moment is burned into your memory and you know you’ll never be the same again.” More succinctly\, Garrison Keiilor said “when Claudia sings a song\, it stays sung.”

SUMMARY:DAVID HUCKFELT w/ Jeremy Ylvisaker
DESCRIPTION:Buy tickets below the bio. \nDAVID HUCKFELT   is a singer / lyricist / activist and founding frontman of Minneapolis indie-folk cult favorites The Pines.  An Iowa native and former theology student\, Huckfelt attended the prestigious Iowa Writers Workshop undergrad program before turning his attention to songwriting and performing.   \nWith musical roots in the same fertile Midwestern soil that produced legendary folk singers like John Prine and Greg Brown\, Huckfelt has shared stages with artists from Mavis Staples & Emmylou Harris to Bon Iver\, Calexico and Trampled By Turtles.  His work with The Pines received record of the year accolades from Mojo & Q Magazine\, and garnered Huckfelt praise from David Fricke (Rolling Stone) as one of the finest songwriters of his generation.   \nIn 2018 he received the Artist-In-Residence award at Isle Royale National Park on Lake Superior\, where in sixteen days he wrote the fourteen songs that would become his breakout solo debut “Stranger Angels”.   \nIn 2012 he met American Indian Movement leader & poet John Trudell on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota\, and their subsequent collaboration resulted in the song “Time Dreams”\, hailed by Democracy Now! and the last recording Trudell made before passing.  Since then\, Huckfelt has partnered with an impressive array of Native American artists and activists including Keith Secola\, Quiltman\, Winona LaDuke and novelist Louise Erdrich in the fight for social justice and protection for Mother Earth.   \nIn thousands of shows across the United States\, Canada & overseas\, Huckfelt’s grassroots following has grown from small-town opera houses\, Midwestern barn concerts\, and progressive benefit events to national tours and festival stages like Hardly Strictly Bluegrass\, Edmonton and Calgary Folk Fests\, and the legendary First Avenue club in his beloved Minneapolis home. His live performance is both improvisational and masterful\, with a rugged optimism that blasts through layers of darkness in real time with songs that speak volumes\, soft & clear.

SUMMARY:New Year's Eve w/ CHERYL & THE DOWN HOME BOYS
DESCRIPTION:The dinner portion of the evening is now  sold out.   NOTA BENE: We do NOT serve food from our regular menu this night– we are only open to those who sign up for the food and music package\, (the food portion of which is sold out\, to be redundant). \nBUT- there are still seats for just the show starting at 7:00\, and you can buy them below. Please arrive around 6:45 if coming just for the show. \n\n \n \n \n \nExcited to have finally come with a great New Year’s Eve plan. It is our usual New Year’s Eve dinner* and music** package\, but the twist is that \nwe are starting the MUSIC at 7:00– two sets separated by a dessert break. (As the New Year has not the ability to know the difference\, we will welcome it at some point in the musical evening. And\, if you so desire\,  you can greet it again in the comfort of your bed at midnight.) \nWe will open at 5:00 for those eating.   \n*DINNER will be served at 3 seating times:  5:15\, 5:45 and 6:15. It will be chicken tchoupitoulas- a seasoned chicken breast on a bed of potatoes\, mushrooms\, and ham covered with Bernaise sauce\, preceded by a creamy spinach garlic soup.  Those of you who need a vegetarian or vegan option please alert us considerably in advance so that we can accommodate you.  A dessert buffet will happen between sets. (Note that this is not included in the just for the show ticket price.) \n       **THE MUSIC: Also excited to have CHERYL & THE DOWN HOME BOYS providing music– a sweet acoustic blend of American roots music: old time country/ folk/blues and a bit of  bluegrass.  Cheryl Niemo‘s singing career began in her childhood home\, accompanying country songs on the radio.  Today those old country songs\, along with a mix of americana music form a large portion of her repertoire.  Her voice is beautiful and compelling\, and she knows how to deliver a song.  Pete Jonsson plays guitar and sings harmony.  He plays in different styles\, flat picking\, finger picking\, and slide guitar.  On occasion a harmonica will find its way to the microphone.  If it does\, it’s Pete’s fault.  Marty Brunkalla is a luthier by day and often a musician on evenings and weekends.  His mandolin and fiddle are a testament to his skill at his day job\, and his playing is exquisite\, weaving counter melodies through the songs.  Sometimes he joins in on a third harmony line. \nSeating is limited. Please buy your tickets ideally  by Friday so that we can plan for food preparation and seating.  That does not totally rule out reserving at a later time\, but it may sell out before that. The same staff has to shop\, cook\, clean\, etc\, so pre-planning is essential.\nJoin us to ring in the New Year with joy\, goodness and warmth\, and carry it through the upcoming year.

SUMMARY:RANDY SABIEN TRIO
DESCRIPTION: RANDY SABIEN TRIO featuring Yazmin Bowers and Ed Willett  \nRandy Sabien – violin\, piano\, guitar\, vocals  \nYazmin Bowers – keyboard\, vocals\, accordion  \nEd Willett – cello\, vocals\, guitar  \nPURCHASE tickets following the bios. \nRANDY SABIEN has 45 years of international recognition as a jazz violinist/educator. His Wisconsin roots go back to his great-grandparents’ cottage in Shell Lake. Started two college string departments\, (Berklee College of Music – Boston; McNally Smith College of Music – St. Paul) recorded a dozen albums and fly fishes in his spare time.  \nYazmin Bowers hails from Washburn on Chequemegon Bay and is the progeny of two musical parents – Hope McLeod and the late Bruce Bowers. She sings\, writes\, paints and is a Latin music and dance aficionado.  \nEd Willett is an extraordinary cellist – superb classical chops\, highly skilled improviser\, and the ability to accompany himself while singing. He’s had a long career performing with his wife\, vocalist Cheryl Leah as the group “Chance.” And by the way\, he spent a couple of years touring with Rickie Lee Jones.  \nThese three players have worked with each other as ad hoc members of the Big Top Chautauqua’s “Blue Canvas Orchestra” over many years. During the recent pandemic shut down we were all wondering “what should we do next?” As it turned out\, the answer is “This!”  \n“My performances either present me as a jazz violinist leading a rhythm section or as a multi-instrumentalist backing up a solo singer/songwriter. Playing with Yazmin Bowers and Ed Willett I have the freedom to flip back and forth between those two roles. The depth of talent allows each of us to step into the spotlight with our individual voices while the others provide accompaniment. You will hear me play an original instrumental on piano while Yazmin solos on synthesizer and Ed plucks a bass line on cello. Yazmin will sing one of her heartfelt songs as Ed and  \nI weave in improvised background string lines. I’ll break into one of my fiddle tunes with Yazmin on accordion and Ed on guitar. We’ll dive into blues\, folk\, jazz\, classical\, Latin styles and more while delicately dancing within and without each other’s musical space.” RS
