SUMMARY:BEN DE LA COUR/ RICHARD INMAN- canceled
DESCRIPTION:  \n“BEN DE LA COUR is a master storyteller who pairs his narratives with dense arrangements and an unforeseen sense of drama and deliberation.” – GOLDMINE MAGAZINE \n“Plaintive story-songs showcasing affecting\, plainspoken vocals and narrative lyricism.”\n– AMERICAN SONGWRITER \n\nWhat happens when the unstoppable force of our dreams meets the immovable object of reality? It’s unclear… but Ben de la Cour is hell-bent on finding out. \nRaised in Brooklyn\, Ben was playing New York City dive bars with his brother a full decade before he could legally drink. A high-school dropout and former amateur boxer\, he received his education by listening to his parent’s record collection – full of everything from Bob Dylan and The Everly Brothers to Black Sabbath and Lynyrd Skynyrd. At the tender age of nineteen he spent a year in Havana training with members of the Cuban national boxing team before moving to London with his brother to revive their doom metal band\, Dead Man’s Root. They lived in a van and toured around Europe until 2008 when de la Cour returned to the states with a head full of softer\, bruised\, but no less intense acoustic songs later described by No Depression as “brimming with urgent authenticity”. \nFollowing a short stint in Los Angeles\, Ben passed through New Orleans on tour and decided to stay. He released Ghost Light in 2011 but was soon on the move again\, this time winding up in Nashville where he crashed on friends’ couches and worked as a doorman until finding his footing. \nDe la Cour’s second album Midnight in Havana came out in 2016 on Flour Sack Cape Records and was met with critical acclaim from outlets like The Huffington Post\, No Depression\, and The Nashville Scene\, with one journalist dubbing him “a vitriolic Leonard Cohen”. That same year he won the prestigious New Folk Competition at the 2016 Kerrville Folk Festival. \n“I like stories that are specific and I don’t like them to be preachy” Ben continues. “If I think I’m being preached to or if there’s an agenda at play – I’m out of there. I think a lot of people feel that way. When I say I think this album is about dissolution\, I mean it on a personal level. How do we cope with this feeling of being lost and unmoored? What happens to relationships when they fall apart? What happens when the unstoppable force of our dreams meets the immovable object of reality? Well\, what usually happens is that it turns out our dreams aren’t quite as unstoppable as we once thought!” \nIn 2018 Ben de la Cour released The High Cost of Living Strange\, eight tracks of his self-proclaimed Americanoir style – weaving what Maverick describes as “rich and uncompromising narratives of lyrical fierceness and rough beauty” with a unique blend of instrumental backing and the occasional glimpse of gallows humor. Along with his unique perspective towards songwriting and his lyrical attention to detail\, de la Cour has a veracious studio ideology; live tracking\, minimal overdubs\, no headphones\, one room\, and just a couple of days. “I’m like a bargain basement Cowboy Jack Clement!” he jokes. \nThe High Cost of Living Strange debuted at #22 on the Euro Americana Charts and received high praise from American Songwriter\, No Depression\, NPR and Daytrotter amongst others as well as fellow songwriters and sometimes touring partners such as Adam Carroll\, Jon Dee Graham and Rod Picott. Ben de la Cour currently spends over a hundred days a year on the road touring the U.S\, Canada and Europe. \nRICHARD INMAN is quickly becoming a staple of Winnipeg’s folk and country scene. With a rich baritone voice and delicate musical touch\, he crafts mature songs that feel at once deeply familiar and bracingly fresh. \n\nBetween relentless gigging and a residency at the legendary Times Change(d) High and Lonesome Club\, Richard has proven himself a savvy songwriter and true prairie gem. \nPlease call 920-563-9391 to reserve seats.

SUMMARY:POET KATHRYN GAHL-canceled
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate National Poetry Month with a reading by Wisconsin poet KATHYRN GAHL. Kathryn is the recipient of the 2019 Lorine Niedecker Poetry Award from the Council For Wisconsin Writers. Her poems and stories are widely published in small journals\, including Eclipse\, Hawaii Pacific Review\, Permafrost\, Porcupine Literary Arts Magazine\, and Willow Review. Her readings have been described as “lively and pulsating. Even if you don’t like poetry\, you will get goosebumps when you hear Kathryn.” \nKathryn  is a writer\, dancer\, and registered nurse. Born to an Irish nurse and German farmer\, she grew up with seven siblings in a farmhouse located at the end of a half-mile gravel drive. She earned a B.S. in English at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and a B.S. in Nursing at Syracuse University (NY). After 25 years in nursing and nursing management\, she became a full-time writer\, studying at Bread Loaf\, Stonecoast\, Sewanee\, Iowa Writers’ Workshop Fiction Intensive\, Iowa Summer Festival\, Vermont College\, and Taos. \nHer poems and stories are widely published in small journals\, including Eclipse\, Hawaii Pacific Review\, Permafrost\, Porcupine Literary Arts Magazine\, and Willow Review. Twice a Glimmer Train finalist\, she received honorable mention from The Council of Wisconsin Writers and Wisconsin People & Ideas . Margie named her a finalist for the Marjorie J. Wilson Award. Other finalist awards include poetry at Lumina and Chautauqua \, the Arthur Edelstein Prize for Short Fiction\, the William Richey Short Story Winner\, and the Flash Fiction finalist at Talking Writing . \nMother of two young adults and Oma to one\, she loves red lipstick\, the tango\, and home cooking. Her readings have been described as “lively and pulsating. Even if you don’t like poetry\, you will get goosebumps when you hear Kathryn.” She participates in Reading Buddies\, a Wisconsin program supplying readers and picture books to preschoolers. \nGahl recently finished her first novel (hooray)! Inspiration flows from her father\, who would have been a writer if it weren’t for frozen barn pipes\, sows farrowing at midnight\, rust in the wheat field\, cows breaking into the raspberry patch\, and eight children wanting lunch money. That\, and his devotion to his wife and Saturday night dance partner\, Kathryn’s mother. This site is dedicated to them. \nLife Drawing Class (The Cottage Corollary\, 2009) \n“The graceful poems in Kathryn Gahl’s new collection titled LIFE DRAWING CLASS are an undeniable pleasure to read. Skillfully crafted\, they reveal a firm control of pace\, color and tone\, taking the reader on an impressionistic journey through a high-risk world–from the poet’s girlhood to her coming-of-age in uneasy times\, through marriage\, motherhood\, bereavement–and finally coming to rest at a point in mid-life marked not only by grief and loss\, but also by life-affirming gain and enlightenment. The elements that Gahl consciously borrows from the visual arts–line\, shape\, shadow and light–are all realized here with delicacy and considerable passion\, ‘recalling love/left in the marrow.'”\n–Marilyn L. Taylor\, Wisconsin Poet Laureate \n“Art\, even poetry\, has its stars and character actors\, both of whom essentially mirror themselves. However\, there is no type-casting Kathryn Gahl\, as LIFE DRAWING CLASS\, this\, her first collection\, attests\, with no two poems quite alike\, each having assumed the mental of truth for the moment. Readers familiar with Walter Pater’s ‘To burn always with this hard\, gemlike flame\, to maintain this ecstasy\, is success in life’ will discover a kindred spirit here\, the difference being never in the degree of energy the poet projects but in the many roles she assumes from sometimes sassy farm girl to savvy and sophisticated sensibility.”\n–Karl Elder\, author of Gilgamesh at the Bellagio

SUMMARY:RJ COWDERY- canceled
DESCRIPTION:Columbus\, OH: Singer-songwriter guitar player RJ COWDERY is motivated by the best things in life: making people think\, laugh\, cry and feel. Fans tell her it’s uncanny the way her songs seem to take a peek directly into their lives. Much like the Midwestern Ohio landscape she calls home\, her songs are stories of middle ground\, and her tales are expressions of being in the midst of life. And RJ really plays hard; her unique\, characteristic style is fingerpicking with a deep bass line. An injury to a finger on her left hand as a child resulted in Cowdery learning her own playing style out of necessity; this gave rise to the distinctive technique that’s earned Cowdery her rightful place at the folk table. \nShe has been a winner at the Kerrville New Folk contest in 2008 and the Mountain Stage New Song Contest in 2007\, and won at Falcon Ridge Emerging Artist and Sisters Folk Festivals too. She’s played at venues like 30A\, The Ark\, The Bluebird\, and Vancouver Island Folk Festival. Cowdery has worked with Don Dixon\, Billy Crockett\, and Amy Speace. She’s also received glowing press from No Depression\, Country Standard Time\, Making a Scene\, The Alternate Root\, WMOT\, The Morton Report\, Americana Highways\, and many others. \nHer 2019 release\, What If This Is All There Is (GoosePie Music) was produced by Amy Speace and rerecorded and mixed by Thomm Jutz. Her all covers release Something Fine came out in 2015 on GoosePie Music and was produced\, recorded and engineered by Matt Nakoa and Neale Eckstein. Her 2011 album was In This Light (Blue Rock Artists)\, produced by Billy Crockett recorded and engineered by Keith Gary. And her debut abum was 2008’s One More Door\, out on GoosePie Music\, and produced by Todd Burge. \n“Midway through my first pass it’s obvious how outstanding it is – musically/sonically/lyrically. I’m new to the artist. Revelatory.“  Craig Havighurst\, Music City Roots\, WMOT \nPlease call 920-563-9391 to reserve seats. \n

SUMMARY:CLAUDE BOURBON- canceled
DESCRIPTION:Ready for a unique and talented take on a wide range of musical traditions? CLAUDE BOURBON is known throughout Europe and America for amazing guitar performances that take blues\, Spanish\, Middle Eastern\, and Russian stylings into uncharted territories. Each year Bourbon plays more than 100 shows around the world. \nClaude has played countless venues\, including Glastonbury Festival\, Isle of Wight Festival\, Colne Great British & Blues Festival\, Rock O’Z Arene\, Avenches\, Switzerland\, among others. He has shared the stage in Europe and the USA with countless musicians\, Calvin Russel\, Charlie Morgan (Elton John\, Gary Moore)\, Jan Akkerman (Focus)\, Steve Grossman (Miles Davis)\, Herbie Armstrong ( Van Morisson)\, Jose barrense Dias and many more. \nSome of this guitarist’s influences allow us a fascinating insight into this remarkable musician; Paco De Lucia: Deep Purple’s Richie Blackmore; Joaquin Rodrigo; JJ Cale\, Monty Python; JS Bach and Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks…. \nOne reviewer even noted that although “Claude’s roots were in blues\, that is like saying Leonardo da Vinci was a painter”. Intrigued ? \nExperience an evening of exploration in the unique ambiance of the Thumb ! \n“ Claude Bourbon is a unique figure today… his playing is almost indescribable“ – The Hook\, Charlottesville\, USA \n“Never heard anyone get that much beautiful sound out of a J-45”\, Bob\, Tucson\, AZ \n“Do you know what Medieval guitar sounds like? I didn’t either ‘til I hooked up with Claude! This is some cool stuff\, and he’s French and everything!” Dolores River Brewery\, Dolores\, CO \n“A breathtaking acoustic fusion of blues\, jazz\, folk\, classical and Spanish guitar from a stunning guitar virtuoso…”Altadena News\, USA” \n“…This accomplished artist offers tender\, compelling performance through highly developed precision. His sound instantly creates ambience – from haunting Spanish moods to lyrical\, romantic jazz\, Claude Bourbon provides both a rich evening of music for lovers\, and a real treat for music lovers…”\, BBC\, UK”…His fingerpicking is exquisite and if I closed my eyes I could clearly hear two guitars playing. Just when I recognized a theme he moved on with a mesmerizing cascade of notes which kept on flowing. He added a driving bass\, for a version of “She knows how to stretch it”. By the time he sang the first verse he had ‘stretched it’ from Spain to the Caucuses\, and from the concert hall to the bar room. His forte is obviously his wonderful guitar work\, but he does occasionally burst into song and what you then get is something between Bob Dylan and Cat Stevens\, combined with a French accent! C’est magnifique.” Dave Baily \nhttp://www.reverbnation.com/claudebourbon \nPlease call 920-563-9391 to reserve.

SUMMARY:KATIE DAHL-canceled
DESCRIPTION:KATIE DAHL \nSinger-songwriter Katie Dahl has performed her original songs everywhere from the dusty cliffs of Mali\, to the winding canals of southern France\, to the cedar forests of the American northwoods. Particularly well-respected on her home turf of Door County\, Wisconsin\, Katie tours regularly and has earned accolades nationwide for the depth and power of her alto voice\, the literate candor of her songs\, and the easy humor of her live performances. In 2015\, Katie’s song “Crowns” hit #1 on the folk radio charts. Her musical play “Victory Farm” premiered to high acclaim in 2012 and has since been made into a live cast album. Karen Impola of Iowa Public Radio says\, “Katie Dahl’s music combines a love for her rural midwestern roots\, a droll wit\, and a clear-eyed appraisal of modern life\, all served up in a voice as rich as cream.” Katie’s latest album\, “Wildwood” (September 2019) was recorded in Nashville and features Birds of Chicago’s JT Nero (producer) and Allison Russell (harmony vocals). \nThough Katie currently makes her home in rural Door County\, Wisconsin\, with her husband and 3-year-old son\, she travels extensively\, sharing stages with the likes of Dar Williams and Peter Mulvey\, and playing intimate house concerts as well as established venues like Chicago’s Old Town School of Folk Music. Richly steeped in the folk songwriter tradition\, Katie navigates the muddy waters between the personal and the public with the skill of a writer twice her age. She is equally adept at writing about relationships (without being indulgent or myopic) and taking on the threat of chain restaurants to her own small community (without being polarizing or didactic). The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel says that Katie combines “old-fashioned populism\, an abiding love of the land and wickedly smart love songs\, all delivered in a rich and expressive alto.” \n“Katie Dahl’s songs aren’t just melodies and words\, they’re journeys that are firmly grounded in a sense of place—beautiful\, real landscapes that help you feel places that you may have never been before. That’s the very best kind of songwriting.”– Dar Williams \nPlease call 920-563-9391 to reserve seats.

DESCRIPTION:Purchase tickets in advance using the Buy tickets link below: \n \nA special evening: Glenn Davis’s rich and mellow guitar with Westside Andy Linderman’s dynamic harmonica phrasing. \nWESTSIDE ANDY is a nationally known Grammy-nominated harp player. \n“Born in 1952\, Andy caught the music bug young\, and picked up his first harmonica at age 11 in Madison\, WI\, which he still calls home. Listening late at night on KAAY AM Radio in Little Rock\, AR\, he got turned on early to Muddy Waters\, Little Walter\, James Cotton\, Sonny Boy Williamson\, Howlin’ Wolf\, and Big Walter Horton\, to name a few. And at that time\, there were so many great\, iconic players to learn from in the nearby Chicago area. Junior Wells\, Charlie Musselwhite\, Jim Liban\, Corky Siegel\, Paul Butterfield. Lots of information and inspiration for a young\, hungry player. \nHe’s played over 10\,000 gigs over some 45 years\, working with a Who’s Who of the Blues: Luther Allison\, Ben E. King\, James Cotton\, Pinetop Perkins\, Barrelhouse Chuck\, Hubert Sumlin\, Tab Benoit\, Gary Primich\, Mel Ford\, Billy Flynn\, Glenn Davis\, Paul Black & the Flipkings\, Reverend Raven\, Jon Nicholson\, Corky Siegel\, Jim Schwall\, Ben Sidran\, Tino Gonzales\, Clyde Stubblefield\, The Doobie Brothers\, Richie Havens\, and The University of Wisconsin 250-piece band (!). \nThe Blues is the center\, yet Andy plays the harmonica with no genre limitation. His drive to push the envelope has led to many sessions in R&B\, Jazz\, and Country. He also makes sure to take time to share his love and appreciation for his craft\, by playing for and teaching school kids\, via “K-12 Blues in the Schools”. \n“Listening to Andy’s live and recorded work\, you get a sense of the many harpists that have inspired him. Blend that with his own unique tone and style\, and you know instantly who you’re listening to. It’s that “player’s player”\, Westside Andy. “Bob Harris 2014 \nGLENN DAVIS  began playing in blues bands in 1970 after graduating high school in Des Plaines\, IL. In the late 70’s Glenn moved to New York\, and recorded his first full length LP in 1984. Later that year he moved to Chicago and started touring nationally with his band Straight Shooter. In 1989 Glenn Davis opened the Silver Moon Blues Club in Darien\, WI. Since then Glenn has released a number of CD’s on the Moonfish recording label. \nAndy and Glenn have played well together for years\, and are excited about doing this live recording on the night of the full moon. SUMMARY:FENDRICK & PECK- canceled
DESCRIPTION:FENDRICK & PECK  (Madeline Fendrick and Brian Peck) are adventurous and curious people who have put together their own variety show of songs\, poems\, and stories. Their music\, though familiar and comforting in sound\, is noted for its exquisite harmony\, lyrics\, and composition with a certain raw imperfection that helps you feel at ease in the world for a little while. Their lyrical content centers on the rebellious messages growing in opposition to our cultural narrative; perhaps the answers we seek actually are in peace in wildness\, accepting our authentic selves\, and love of the finest kind. \nPlease call 920-563-9391 to reserve seats.

SUMMARY:KAREN CHOI- canceled
DESCRIPTION:KAREN CHOI \nRooted in the Americana tradition\, KAREN CHOI’s songs explore the common human experience from a rich lyrical perspective. Choi has supported acts such as Son Volt\, The Quebe Sisters\, Wade Bowen and the late Pegi Young. Her latest release\, ‘Lost County’ was recorded and mixed by Tim Gebauer of Electropolis in St. Louis\, Missouri. Gebauer has worked with artists such as River Kittens\, Le’Ponds\, Pokey LaFarge and Sleepy Kitty. He co-produced the album with Nick Dahlquist and Karen Choi. \n‘Lost County\,’ leans into the stylistic freedom of the Americana genre as it scales back the use of bluegrass forward instruments as heard on Choi’s past work. The six song collection instead focuses on rich harmonies\, electric lines\, and multiple varieties of organ\, piano and guitar. Choi hand-selected a cast of local players to record on the album\, resulting in a sound that truly represents her live performance. \nBorn and raised in Lincoln\, Nebraska\, Choi was introduced to roots music through her father’s involvement in a local bluegrass band. At thirteen\, she was self-taught on guitar and began songwriting as a means of guiding everyday encounters. She is currently living in St. Louis\, Missouri where she spends her time raising her three boys and keeping a busy tour and show schedule. \nFor fans of: Over the Rhine\, The Secret Sisters\, Emmy Lou Harris\, Courtney Marie Andrews and Amanda Shires \nPlease call 920-563-9391 to reserve.

SUMMARY:GRANT PEEPLES- canceled
DESCRIPTION:A self-described “tree-hugger that watches NASCAR\, and Buddhist with a gun below the seat\,” GRANT PEEPLES is known for his axe-sharp socio-political tunes\, raucous humor and heart-gigging ballads. \nHe is the recipient of the Focus Foundation Award for Creative Excellence\, which cited the “humor\, compassion and wisdom of his songs\,” and their “unflinching social insight and cultural acuity.” Grant tours coast to coast\, and is a regular performer at The Woody Guthrie Folk Festival\, the 30A Songwriters Festival\, and The Florida\, Folk Festival. January 2019 marked a second tour in The Netherlands\, where FolkForum.nl described him “…a pure storyteller\, in the best American folk tradition…” and his show “…one of those gems that you will remember for a long time…” \nGurf Morlix\, who has produced Lucinda Williams\, Mary Gauthier\, Ray Wiley Hubbard\, Robert Earl Keen\, and Slaid Cleaves—has produced five of Grant’s records\, including his most recent release of original songs\, “Settling Scores Vol II” (2018)\, and this year’s special release\, ‘Bad Wife\,’ (Feb 2020) a collection of songs written by women songwriters\, a tribute to women in the year of the 100th anniversary of women getting the right to vote in the US. Songwriters include Eliza Gilkyson\, Carrie Elkin\, Telisha Williams\, Caroline Spence\, Phoebe Blume\, Sarah Mac\, Rebekah Pulley\, Ali Holder\, Myshkin\, Alicia McGovern\, and Dayna Kurtz\, who wrote the album’s title track.\n.\nA Few Things About Grant Peeples \nHis shows are a roiling mix of funny stuff and not-funny stuff. He doesn’t do a lot of lo-ooove songs\, but when he does\, it’s liable to break your heart. \nHe has made eleven studio records\, three live recordings and three poetry books\, the latest of which is “My Advice to Pilgrims\,” published by Mezcalita Press. \nHe tours coast-to-coast\, primarily as a solo artist\, but often with a side man. He usually plays festivals with his band The Peeples Republik. \nHe lived on a small island off the Miskito Coast of Nicaragua for eleven years. There he installed the island’s first flushing toilet\, rescued sea turtles\, and built an eco-resort and dive shop. When he returned to the US in 2006\, he returned to a homeland whose changes bordered on futuristic. And much of what he writes about today is informed by that experience. \nHere’s a link to a recent interview with Grant in Richard Reardin’s ‘Beyond a Song’. \n“Peeples is unusually honest\, unusually literate. He’s the only songwriter I have ever thought to call “ruthless”…. ” John Conquest\, Third Coast Magazine \n“He’s the Woody Guthrie of the New Millennium” — Larry Newman-WSCA \n“A man of deeply held conviction….and cajones — “D.C. Bloom Lonestar Magazine \n“No performer holds a crowd like Grant Peeples” — Barry White- S. Florida Folk Network \n“Comedic\, acute\, smart\, intensely political” — Marc Stern WMBR Cambridge MA \nPlease call 920-563-9391 to reserve seats.

SUMMARY:TAYLOR DONSKEY- canceled
DESCRIPTION:TAYLOR JAMES DONSKEY is a lover and writer of songs. Although he has become known for his work as a sideman (bass\, vocals\, trumpet\, trombone\, percussion)\, Donskey considers himself a songwriter and band leader ahead of all else.< \nRaised in La Crosse\, Wisconsin and influenced by his time in the Driftless Region\, he picked up the bass at 14 and began his life as a sideman. He played in pop punk bands and school jazz combos. He sang in choirs and played trumpet\, trombone\, percussion and most importantly\, the bass. This led him to playing paid gigs in high school\, sitting in with his uncle’s cover band. \n“I had to learn nearly two hours of rock cover songs\,” Donskey says. Playing music by Bowie\, Petty\, Harrison and McCartney left its mark. “A lot of that music had incredible bass lines like I’d never really heard. It really inspired me.”Taking that big leap into the spotlight\, Taylor James Donskey emerges from his supporting role with Paper Over It\, a sophisticated debut\, showcasing his strong songwriting skills and prowess as an arranger and producer. \nWhen not busy performing his own music or touring in Lena Elizabeth’s band\, he teaches ukulele\, piano\, electric bass\, upright bass\, guitar\, songwriting\, music theory and voice. “Teaching is my second great joy\,” he says. “I’ve learned how to translate the language of music so that people may experience it in their own way.” \nPlease call 920-563-9391 to reserve seats.

SUMMARY:GARNET ROGERS- Cancelled but read on
DESCRIPTION:After struggling all day with the decision\, we have decided to cancel tonight’s concert. \nHOWEVER\, Garnet will do a remote concert\, and it will be broadcast live at 8:30 via our Cafe Carpe Facebook page. We hope for no glitches\, but….. \nYou may call Brown Paper Tickets 1-800-838-3006 to request a refund (call before showtime\, and expect a delay\, as they are a bit busy)\, or enjoy the concert in this socially distant way and consider that a fair return on your investment. \nThese are difficult times\, and difficult decisions are being made by all of us. But epidemiologists say that to stay ahead of the curve\, take precautionary measures even if they do not yet seem necessary. \nPlease call 920-563-9391 if you have any questions. \nStay kind\, and concerned for others\, and keep on singing. \nThanks for your patience\, prudence\, and patronage\,\nKitty and Bill \n  \nGet your tickets by clicking on Buy tickets: except if it is SOLD OUT \n \nBorn in 1955\, GARNET ROGERS began his musical career in high school playing violin\, flute and guitar with his older brother\, Stan Rogers. Upon finishing school in 1974\, he and his brother formed a trio and went on to change the face of folk music in North America with their performances that left audiences breathless\, records which to date have sold in the millions\, and songs which have been sung and recorded by thousands around the globe. \nUpon Stan’s untimely death in 1983\, Garnet set out on his own\, forming\, along with his parents\, one of the very first independent record labels in North America\, long before “Indies” became fashionable. Thus far\, Garnet has written and recorded 18 highly acclaimed records to date; received a Juno nomination; and recorded either solo or with Grammy nominated American folk icon Greg Brown\, as well as legendary Scottish singer Archie Fisher (recently made a Member of the British Empire at Buckingham Palace). \nGarnet also authored and recently published a memoir called Night Drive\, a wild\, funny\, and vulgar telling of his years on the road with his brother. Night Drive has received uniformly rave reviews in North America and Europe\, and continues to sell well. Resolutely avoiding the mainstream music industry\, Garnet has refused all offers from large record labels\, with the exception of a “best-of” compilation done with the highly respected Minneapolis record label Red House Records\, the largest independent roots music label in North America. His own record label and publishing company\, Snow Goose Records\, remains family run. \nOver the years Garnet has worked or appeared with artists such as the late Bill Morrissey (a Grammy-nominated writer\, singer\, and best-selling author)\, Mary Chapin Carpenter (five time Grammy-winning singer)\, the late Guy Clark\, Shawn Colvin\, folk legends Judy Collins and Tom Paxton\, acclaimed British producer Brian Eno\, Daniel Lanois (fellow Canadian and noted producer for U2)\, Bluegrass legend Bill Monroe\, Harry Connick Jr.\, and many others. \nVenues where Garnet has played include the Kennedy Center for the Arts in Washington DC\, Lincoln Center in New York City\, and the Victoria Ballroom in Vancouver (as special musical guest in an evening honoring Nelson Mandela). As well\, he has played at nearly every major music festival in North America\, and hundreds of smaller concert halls and clubs around the continent\, from Florida to the Yukon\, Newfoundland to San Diego. \nGarnet Rogers has been a guest on NPR shows All Things Considered\, A Prairie Home Companion\, Good Evening with Noah Adams\, Fresh Air with Terry Gross; as well\, he’s appeared on West Virginia’s Mountain Stage\, CBC’s As It Happens\, The Vicki Gabereau show\, “Q” with Tom Power\, Morningside with Peter Gzowski\, and Swinging on a Star with Murray Maclaughlan. \nGarnet is to be the subject of a documentary in the coming year\, intended to touch on the travels and travails that make up the story of his touring life. The documentary is to be directed by Jonathan Silvers\, the noted filmmaker whose most recent three-part series\, “Dead Reckoning: War\, Crime\, and Justice from WW2 to the War on Terror\,” was featured on PBS in spring 2017. \nGarnet Rogers continues to write\, to record\, and to tour all across Canada and the States. He spends his off-time between his home in Nova Scotia and his farm in Ontario\, where his wife\, Gail Parker-Rogers\, breeds and raises thoroughbred horses\, several of which are on the US and Canadian Olympic Teams. \n****Garnet requests that audience members bring non-perishable donations of food\, and items of personal care (shampoo\, toothpaste\, soap) to help the less fortunate in the community.

SUMMARY:SONG SWAP w/ MARK POWERS on percussion
DESCRIPTION:An interesting evening of music is in development. Percussionist MARK POWERS\,  based out of Portland\, Oregon\, will be an artist-in-residence at St. Joseph’s School in Fort Atkinson the week of March 2.  We thought it would be fun if he would further share his talents while in Fort.  He thought it would be fun\, too\, and will join with regional artists Perry Baird\, Kaia Fowler\, Jason Lynk\, Steve Tesmer\, Tricia Alexander\, and perhaps others\, improvising percussion accompaniment for a diverse evening of music. \nMARK POWERS has shared the stage with artist as diverse as Cheap Trick’s Rick Nielsen\, Devon Evans (of Bob Marley and the Wailers)\, Clyde Stubblefield\, Rolling Stones saxophonist Tim Ries\, Bad Company’s Lynn Sorensen\, [America’s Polka King] the late Frankie Yankovic\, the Portland Cello Project\, Floater and more. \nPERRY BAIRD’s strong and smooth baritone vocals draw you in to the songs he plays\, selections that are an eclectic mix of contemporary and traditional styles. Frequently seen performing with local groups and duos\, including Rose Among Thorns\, Baird also delivers an enchanting solo performance. \n\nKAIA FOWLER creates music that “speaks to the soul.” Kaia’s songs evoke transcendence\, wellness\, and comfort even when they witness loss\, injustice\, and the fragility of our Earth.
