DESCRIPTION:This five piece bluegrass ball of fire featuring vocals\, banjo\, fiddle\, guitar\, bass and mandolin appears here regularly on the 2nd Thursday of the month- except when they don’t.  Its various members have been involved with traditional music locally\, regionally\, and nationally for many years. \nThe Pioneer’s lead singer and guitarist\, Jerry Wicentowski\, has been described by country music historian Bill Malone as “One of the finest singers in bluegrass music”. Jerry has also performed and recorded with such bluegrass greats as Tim O’Brien\, Andy Statman\, Byron Berline\, Tony Trischka and others. Mike Schmidt of Spring Green\, Wisconsin\, is the group’s banjo player. This former French horn player has been a Nashville session musician and member of the popular Wisconsin-based bluegrass bands\, Alive ‘n’ Pickin’ and the Piper Road Spring Band. He also performs occasionally with his wife Lori. Bruce King of Art Stevenson and High Water – also formerly of Alive ‘n’ Pickin’ – is on mandolin. Bruce and Mike are veterans of the Great Northern Bluegrass Festival in Mole Lake\, WI – performing there every year from 1977 to 1982. Fiddle player Paul Kienitz is a member in good standing of regional bluegrass favorites\, The Nob Hill Boys. Bass player John Jirak also has played banjo with various folks in the northeastern WI and Madison areas\, most notably with the Green Bay based Fox River Flyer. As a bass player\, he’s performed shows with the Chicago Bluegrass Band\, Miltown Ramblers\, Krause Family\, Old Cool\, Spare Time Bluegrass Band\, Bob Steeno and The Old Truck\, and Down From the Hills\, and currently Madison’s newest\, Kettle Moraine. \nLike them on Facebook.

Perry\, Tom and Jeff are all now retired from their day jobs leaving Erica as the only one officially working for a living. Truly “A Rose Among Thorns”.  As things go at least three of them are a little slower off of the couch\, but their minds and fingers remain sharp and nimble as ever. DESCRIPTION:TIM is a bit of a Renaissance man in the performing arts world. He has for the past 15 years\, blended his love for songwriting\, travel\, and the storytelling of acting (theatre\, film and television). \nTim returns to the Carpe with his musical family in tow–Connor Grimm on bass\, Jackson Grimm on banjo\, octave mando\, guitar and vocals\, and Jan Lucas-Grimm on harmonica and vocals.  They’ve just completed a 6 week run at The Indiana Repertory Theatre working on the Bicentennial production- FINDING HOME: Indiana at 200- for which they wrote and performed songs and the score. Their song WOODY’S LANDLORD was the #1 song on Folk radio in 2016\, and threads the narrative of Woody Guthrie’s landlord (Fred Trump) and Tim’s relationship with debate-team mate- Mike Pence. \nTim has built a reputation as a storytelling songwriter of some note in the US and Europe\, and his sons bring a blend of bluegrass. old-time\, and rock and roll into the mix. It’s all shaken up but it’s still all about the song. It’s folk music in a time when we really need it. The Grimms have just\nfinished another recording to be released in March\, entitled\,  A STRANGER IN THIS TIME. This is the first project that they’ve done entirely as a family and includes several family co-writes. It pulls no punches as we find ourselves on the brink of a new America. \nThey head off to tour Europe for 3 months in early April. DESCRIPTION:Apparently there some confusion has arisen as to the time of this event.  The Wranglers and the Carpe now agree that it is at 8:30. \nTHE RADIO WRANGLERS hail from Wisconsin and are heavily influenced by the sounds of the 1930’s\, 40’s and 50’s with influences ranging from Country and Western\, Western Swing\, and Honky Tonk. The band has had the pleasure of playing at Opryland in Nashville\, and opening for such acts as Wayne Hancock and Carolyn Martin’s Western Swing Band. They strive to encapsulate the sounds of traditional 1940’s and 50’s Country and Western music\, while adding their own tunes to the long-lasting tradition they so greatly admire. From Waltzes to Boogies\, hot swing to high and lonesome blues\, you do not want to miss this band’s unique blend of true American music! \nDrawing influences from such artists as Bob Wills\, Ernest Tubb\, Milton Brown\, Jack Gurhrie\, Tex Williams\, Webb Pierce\, Hank Thompson\, and Hank Williams\, The Radio Wranglers also write original music with a taste of the past. Fronted by the twin fiddle team of Blaine And Ruthie McQuinn on fiddle and vocals\, The Radio Wranglers are Danny Tyksinski on lead guitar\, and Ed Novak on rhythm guitar\, and Peyton Lencho on doghouse bass. \nThe Radio Wranglers have had the good fortune of playing the Nashville Boogie for two consecutive years\, including being the band for the Western Wear Fashion show! They draw the audience in with an intimacy to their performance in a way that only old friends of several decades – with a special connection\, can. Having moved from .357\, Huber has honed his songwriting abilities immensely and now continues moving onward and upward captivating folks with his sincere and well-crafted songs under his own name and with his backing band. Whether it’s irresistible\, fiddle-driven\, danceable tunes or honest\, heart-wrenching “songwriter” songs\, Huber spans the spectrum and knows how to evoke joy or pain with the likes of the best. \nHis lyricism and introspective writing style has received high acclaim from many Americana enthusiasts. Huber released his 3rd solo album entitled ‘The Hanging Road’ under Nashville’s ‘Muddy Roots Recordings’ label in Spring 2014\, following his self-released previous efforts\, ‘Bury Me Where I Fall’ and ‘Tongues of Fire’\, and has plans for yet another early 2017 release. \nLOST LAKES is a collaboration between Corey Mathew Hart and Paul Mitch. The two met during a songwriting competition held by a local radio station. It wasn’t until they returned for a duets portion of the follow year’s competition that Corey saw Paul play bass and singing harmonies. The first time Corey and Paul played together\, they clicked musically and personally. The collaboration has grown over the years\, developing into a strong songwriting and production team with a focus on well-crafted tunes and tight vocal harmonies. Lost Lakes’ self-titled debut record bears witness to their talents and the fact the whole can be greater than the sum of its parts. \nRecorded over a 9 month period\, the recording process was a labor of love. Paul and Corey produced the record and enlisted percussionist Shane Leonard (Field Report\, The Stray Birds) along with longtime bandmate Rusty Lee on keyboards to fill out the sound. The project was recorded in a shared warehouse space called the Dojo. Many of the basic tracks were recorded live in 2 separate sessions with overdubs done in small Thursday night sessions. Being fairly porous to the outside elements\, the temperature in the Dojo ranged from 41 degrees to well over 100 over the course of the project\, adding a sense of adventure to the sessions. Being able to take their time for this project gave Corey and Paul a lot of freedom to try different sounds and arrangements for songs they have been playing live for a couple of years. With no pressure\, no deadline\, and a giant warehouse space filled with eclectic gear\, the two managed to create a record of the highest quality. \nWhen it came time to mix the album\, Corey and Paul called on an old acquaintance\, Grammy award winning engineer Justin Guip. The two had met Guip years ago when they opened for The Amy Helm (daughter of Levon Helm) at a Barn show in Spring Green\, WI. Guip also happened to have just finished a record with the Stray Birds that Shane Leonard played percussion on. The past and present collided\, and the timing couldn’t have been better. Corey and Paul approached Guip about mixing the record and he was very excited about the songs and tracks that were laid down at the Dojo. Guip’s aesthetic greatly aligned with the vision that Paul and Corey had for the record\, and the result is a compelling masterpiece.
