This former French horn player has been a Nashville session musician and member of the popular Wisconsin-based bluegrass bands\, Alive ‘n’ Pickin’ and the Piper Road Spring Band. SUMMARY:CATHY BARTON AND DAVE PARA
DESCRIPTION:CATHY BARTON AND DAVE PARA \nA versatile duo\, Dave and Cathy perform and conduct workshops with hammered and fretted dulcimers\, banjo\, guitars and Autoharp\, as well as “found” instruments like bones\, spoons\, mouthbow and leaf. Their music ranges from driving string band music to contemplative ballads and airs. They have a knack for finding unusual\, rarely heard songs from traditional and contemporary sources in their home region\, but also from elsewhere in the US and Europe. They have conducted many topical workshops on songs from the Carter family\, the Civil War\, river lore\, gospel\, children’s songs\, Christmas music and Ozark ballads. \n“Cathy Barton and Dave Para\, as much as any folk musicians I know\, carry on the sense of importance of folk music\, the value of digging for old musical gold\, of traveling far and wide to collect old songs and tunes\, and of being friends with\, rather than exploiters of the old-timers who have provided such wonderful music foundations for us all.”  Ed Trickett \n“This duo from Missouri make some of the best music you will ever hear.” -Art Thieme

SUMMARY:CLAUDIA SCHMIDT
DESCRIPTION:More than 4 decades as a touring professional have found Michigan native CLAUDIA SCHMIDT traversing North America as well as Europe in venues ranging from intimate clubs to 4\,000 seat theatres\, and festival stages in front of 25\,000 rapt listeners. She has recorded nineteen albums of mostly original songs\, exploring folk\, blues\, and jazz idioms featuring her acclaimed 12-string guitar and mountain dulcimer playing. \n“If it were the intention of the creator or creators of this universe to perfectly blend together the night sky with moon and stars\, it might have been their intention as well to deliver Claudia Schmidt as their messenger of reminder.  To say that Schmidt is simply a performer with a talent to entertain would be a miscarriage of understatement. Schmidt takes her audiences into her world as easily as the child who discovers the endless universes that exist in a cardboard box….. \nSchmidt weaves her way through her concert in much the same manner as a jester. Interwoven anecdotes\, revealing her past and present\, bring people to expect a relationship between themselves and memories driven deep with the passage of time. The concert is an endless display of self-realization through humor and longing\, leaving audience members yearning to become an integral part of her world.”  Door County Advocate \nPlease call 920-563-9391 to reserve.

SUMMARY:RED TAIL RING
DESCRIPTION:OLD-TIMEY ROOTS\, NEW-TIMEY SOUNDS \nRED TAIL RING is the musical brainchild of two old-time-minded Michiganders – Michael Beauchamp and Laurel Premo. The collaboration blends the loving attention of revivalist fervor with the playful creativity of starting from scratch. Whether rendering a traditional tune or one of their many original compositions\, the duo infuses each song with musical imagination\, haunting harmonies and instrumental artistry on fiddle\, banjo\, mandolin\, jawharp\, and plain-old foot stomping. “We love pushing the boundaries of what a traditional song can be\,” says Beauchamp. “It informs how we write our original songs. There’s a real energy exchange between the old and the new.” \nThis two-way connection takes center stage with Red Tail Ring’s first pair of recordings released in April 2011 on Earthwork Music\, Middlewest Chant and Mountain Shout. The set forms a complete picture of Red Tail Ring’s blending of old with new. Middlewest Chant is comprised of all original songs\, while Mountain Shout features Red Tail Ring’s interpretations of Appalachian ballads and melodies. “We tried to weave the music on these two albums together not only with similar musical treatment\, but with running lyric lines and shared songforms\,” Premo says. \nIn May 2013\, Red Tail Ring released their third full-length album. The Heart’s Swift Foot presents 10 original songs with two acoustic standards that stretch the confines of what two people can create sonically. The duo’s signature style\, of layered\, intricate instrumental lines over close vocal harmonies\, shines on this new collection. “We crafted the recording to be as close to our live performance as possible\,” Beauchamp says. “We feel we’re at our best when we’re playing together\, listening and reacting as we go along.” As a whole\, the lyrics of The Heart’s Swift Foot explore changes that come without warning\, and the malleability of relationships and friendships. \nIn 2014\, Premo and Beauchamp collaborated in a wider circle and produced two joint releases. The New Roots Exchange is a vinyl project created with the marvelous bluegrass band Lindsay Lou & The Flatbellys. The Right Hands Round is a recording of energetic square dance music with the stringband Bowhunter. \n“The very best of the 21st century’s minimalist and highly original folk music . . . a peerless duo.” – American Roots UK \n“Red Tail Ring brings to the stage a lively and commanding fusion of string and vocal harmonies. The pair deliver both established ballads and original compositions with a clear\, authentic ease that manages to transcend traditional form while honoring its legacy.” – Rob Cole\, Grand Rapids Press \n“Laurel Premo and Michael Beauchamp share a reverance for vivid\, authentic American art forms. They are both rustic and elegant\, and they lift us into their sound.” – Seth Bernard\, Earthwork Music \nPlease call to reserve.

SUMMARY:ALI SPERRY & FAMILY VACATION/ The Danberrys
DESCRIPTION:ALI SPERRY is a Nashville singer-songwriter whose songs tell stories of the universal quest for connection. Ali gathered her nearest and dearest Nashville musician friends to flesh out the songs on her debut album Storybook in 2012\, with lush arrangements\, integrating elements of folk ballads\, feel-good rock and roll\, and atmospheric string-infused pop. The group came to be known as The Family Vacation\, with whom Ali tours frequently\, having shared shows with Langhorne Slim\, Amanda Shires\, Andrew Combs\, The Spring Standards\, Chris Stills\, Elephant Revival\, Mipso and others. Ali is currently touring in support of her EP “Comes and Goes”\, a soul-infused exploration of purpose\, demons and dreams.\n \nOne member of Family Vacation is drummer/percussionist JAMIE DICK\, who is well-loved around here.  Jamie has played with Abigail Washburn\, Rhiannon Giddens\, Rayna Gellert\, Tommy and the Whale\, Satchel Paige Welch\, Kai Welch\, Bill Camplin\, Jeremy Pinc\, and numerous others.  Says Rhiannon- “Mr Dick\, who possibly has the most ironic name in the history of mankind\, is a gentleman of the highest order and one with a delicate hand on the skins. Content with whatever groove fits the song he has no need for fancy fills and furbelows (tho’ he has them when he needs them); he rather shows his brilliance with subtle shifts of tempo and tone. It was an incredibly hard task finding someone to play drums for songs recorded with the great Jay Bellerose – but with certainty\, it has been done\, and with aplomb.” \nAdding to the fun will be the DANBERRYS\, who will join the Family Vacation set\, and do their own accompanied by Jamie Dick.  “Drawing deep from the traditions of bluegrass\, old-time country\, blues\, and funk/soul\, the Danberrys offer inspired songwriting delivered with raw emotion\, distinct vocal harmonies\, and dynamic\, top-notch musicianship. Rather than responding to a dictated sound\, their music further displays the near limitless nature of the Americana genre.” \nPlease call to reserve.

SUMMARY:BIG BANG STRING THING
DESCRIPTION:BIG BANG STRING THING \nIt’s rare when the word acoustic conjures thoughts of music that can electrify the jump in your feet. Then again\, BBST is a rare group\, and an impressive collective of musical might. Energetic\, contagious\, and flat out fun\, BBST weaves a sizzling thread through multiple genres to deliver a tapestry of award-winning original music that defies one description\, yet\, connects with everyone. Perhaps that has a something to do with the fact that BBST is made up of veteran musicians who have toured\, recorded\, or shared the stage with Leo Kottke\, The String Cheese Incident\, Lyle Lovett\, The Smashing Pumpkins\, Darol Anger\, Mike Marshall\, John Hartford\, U2\, Asleep at the Wheel\, Garbage\, Willy Porter\, Riders in the Sky\, The Radiators\, David Grisman\, Alex DeGrassi\, Doc Watson\, Carrie Newcomer\, and Merl Saunders and the Rainforest Band to name a few. Or\, it could simply be that Big Bang String Thing knows how to craft a great sound. \nTHE BAND: \nBob Westfall (mandolin\, guitar\, vocals\, songwriting) has studied and worked with some of the top acoustic players in the country -Darol Anger\, Mike Marshall\, John Hartford\, and Alex DeGrassi. But\, while these influences are certainly evident\, Westfall’s songwriting are uniquely his own. An award-winning mandolinist\, Bob grew up in Texas and Minnesota\, and his style incorporates the best elements of storytelling with a hybrid jazz/pop/worldbeat/bluegrass feel. \nThe husband and wife team of Mary Gaines(bass) and Chris Wagoner (violin) provide the bottom and top of the BBST sound\, and have appeared in performance and on recordings with Westfall for over fifteen years. Gaines and Wagoner have similarly diverse backgrounds — formal classical training at the Univ. of WI\, jazz studies with the great bassist\, Richard Davis\, followed by years of performing and recording with jazz\, blues\, rock\, and folk artists and songwriters. \nPlease call to reserve.

SUMMARY:CLIFF EBERHARDT w/special guest Louise Mosrie
DESCRIPTION:Always happy to have  CLIFF EBERHARDT return.  This time he brings along someone new- LOUISE MOSRIE. \nCliff knew by age seven that he was going to be a singer and songwriter. Growing up in Berwyn\, Pennsylvania\, he and his brothers sang together and their parents played instruments. His dad introduced him to the guitar and he quickly taught himself to play. Fortunate enough to live close to the Main Point (one of the best folk clubs on the East Coast)\, he cut his teeth listening to the likes of James Taylor\, Joni Mitchell\, Bruce Springsteen\, Howlin’ Wolf\, Muddy Waters\, Bonnie Raitt\, and Mississippi John Hurt — receiving an early and impressive tutorial in acoustic music. At the same time\, he was also listening to great pop songwriters like Cole Porter\, the Gershwins\, and Rodgers and Hart\, which explain his penchant for great melodies and clever lyrical twists. \n“Eberhardt is better than ever\, Steve McQueening his way into your heart at about ninety-eight miles an hour\, kicking ass with fresh insight and new ways to lament old yearnings.”\n—Philly Rock Guide – \n“Up and down the line\, as a writer\, guitarist\, performer\, and vocalist\, Eberhardt is the equal of any singer-songwriter in contemporary pop. With unequaled directness and with a stark\, raw presentation\, he carves out miniature masterpieces\, giving voice to life’s complexities and ambiguities.” —Berkshire Eagle \n“Melding pop\, rock\,and folk styles into a rich melange\, Eberhardt fits gracefully and solidly in the singer/songwriter niche.” —Seattle Weekly \n“Eberhardt approaches the guitar with stylistic eloquence\, with the hooks\, licks and grooves that could easily rank him among those who are singularly known as guitar virtuosos.” —Taconic Newspapers \n“Eberhardt is a superb singer\, with a vast credible range of emotions\, and a soulfulness that draws from rock and pop\, but also from the best folk ballad styles.” – The Boston Globe \nAt fifteen\, Cliff and his brother Geoff began touring as an acoustic duo\, playing the Eastern club circuit until Cliff turned twenty-one and moved to Carbondale\, Illinois. There he found space to develop his own voice within a vibrant and supportive music scene that included Shawn Colvin. After a couple of years there and a short stay in Colorado\, Cliff moved to New York in 1978. Because the clubs were great (the Bitter End\, the Speakeasy\, Kenny’s Castaway\, Folk City) and the company amazing (John Gorka\, Suzanne Vega\, Lucy Kaplansky\, Julie Gold\, Steve Forbert\, Christine Lavin\, and Shawn Colvin)\, New York was an ideal musician’s boot camp. Though he put in long hours as a taxi driver\, Cliff worked steadily on his music throughout the 80’s\, doing solo gigs and studio work\, and playing guitar on the road with Richie Havens\, Melanie and others. Singing advertising jingles for products like Coke\, Miller Beer and Chevrolet (“The Heartbeat of America” campaign) allowed him to devote more time to his songwriting. \nIn 1990 Cliff’s song “My Father’s Shoes\,” appeared on Windham Hill’s Legacy collection\, leading to a deal with the label. They released Cliff’s first album\, The Long Road (1990)\, a work featuring a duet with Richie Havens. The critical response to this debut was outstanding (The Philadelphia Inquirer called the album a “repeatedly astounding collection”). He followed with two more records on Windham Hill before releasing 12 Songs of Good and Evil (1997) on Red House Records\, which stemmed from a chance meeting with Red House founder Bob Feldman at John Gorka’s wedding. Cliff recorded two more albums before his critically acclaimed The High Above and the Down Below\, named the #5 album of 2007 by USA Today. Produced by legendary musician and Red House Records president Eric Peltoniemi\, it was recorded in Minneapolis with noted jazz players Gordy Johnson\, J. T. Bates and Rich Dworsky and was his first album after spending several years recovering from a car accident. \nWith a new lease on life and a fresh batch of songs\, Cliff embarked on what has turned out to be an artistic renaissance. Recorded in the Texas Hill Country\, Cliff’s 2009 album 500 Miles: The Blue Rock Sessions may be his finest to date. An intimate album of powerful originals and unique covers\, it features a reworking of his hit “The Long Road\,” a song made more poignant after nearly two decades of touring and recording. Long one of the most respected songwriters on the club scene\, his peers often mine his catalog for themselves. Cliff’s song “Memphis” was included on Cry Cry Cry\, an album of collaborative covers by the “folk supergroup” of the same name (comprised of Dar Williams\, Lucy Kaplansky and Richard Shindell). Other performers who have recorded his songs include Richie Havens\, Shawn Colvin\, Russ Taff and Buffy Sainte Marie. A collection of his songs has been published in The Cliff Eberhardt Songbook (Cherry Lane Publishing). \nIn 2011\, Cliff got a phone call from the Folger Theatre and Shakespeare Library in Washington DC. They had been listening to his song\, “That Kind of Love” along with director Aaron Posner and got the brilliant idea to hire Cliff to write original songs for the Shakespeare classic “The Taming of the Shrew”. It would be set in the old West – Deadwood style – and Cliff would be cast as the blind but wise old saloon singer bookending scenes with his poignant songs and guitar phrases. The play was a huge success and won much critical acclaim across town and 7 weeks of solid sold-out shows in the Spring of 2012.  In 2013\, Cliff was awarded a coveted Helen Hayes Award for Sound Design and the cast won for Best Ensemble. Some of the songs on Shrew Songs are from Cliff’s past work and some are brand new. The stripped down production enhances the immediate intimacy of Cliff’s songwriting. You don’t have to have seen the play to love this record! It’s available for sale now only through this website or at Cliff’s shows.  – See more at: http://www.cliffeberhardt.com/bio/#sthash.NsR1oSzy.dpuf \n“LOUISE MOSRIE may well be the brightest young folk-oriented artist to emerge from Nashville in many a year. On her second release her pure\, expressive voice delivers the songs with the perfect balance of expressiveness and direction. Better still\, the exquisite\, very low key production keeps Mosrie’s voice out front and shining. This is Mosrie with a few well chosen\, subtle accompanists. A pleasing aspect of this CD is its ideal mix of personal songs and songs outside of Mosrie’s own life\, such as song set in the Civil War and one about a young girl leaving home for the larger world in 1920 and coming to grief. In my book\, Mosrie’s song “Singing My Heart Out” alone is worth buying this CD.”– Rich Warren – WFMT-FM “Midnight Special” Chicago (Dec 7\, 2014) \nPLEASE CALL TO RESERVE.

DESCRIPTION:KAIA FOWLER’s music is a cross-blend of folk\, blues\, rock and Americana. Through supple\, strong vocals and guitar work that ranges from delicate finger style to rhythmic strumming\, Kaia shares songs that explore life’s longings\, struggles and celebrations. Rooted in nature\, Kaia’s songs resonate with strength and vulnerability\, seeking to bring light even when approaching some of the darkest moments in life. \nPerforming at folk clubs\, house concerts and venues that include the Cafe’ Carpe in Fort Atkinson\, Wisconsin and Froth House in Madison\, Kaia shares originals and select covers that include songs by John Prine\, Patty Griffin\, Tracy Chapman and Susan Tedeschi. Kaia’s songwriting has been compared to Joni Mitchell’s for its lyrical metaphors\, rich melodies and creative harmonies. \nKaia released her first album\, Seams of My Heart in 2010. With Kaia on guitar and vocals\, the album also features Randy Sabien on violin and mandolin\, Paul Bast on dobro\, Sam Steffke on piano\, and Jeremy Reutebuch on percussion. \nFrom the Americana Gazette album review: “Each song is very well written\, with a true authenticity of life. You can picture yourself or someone you know in each story line.” He continues\, “Fowler is a tremendous lyricist. Her lyrics paint pictures and her musical notes add the color…” (Aug.-Sept. 2010 issue) \nFollowing the release of Seams of My Heart\, Kaia was invited to play her song “Who Are You?” as a guest at Michelle Shocked’s concert at the High Noon Saloon in Madison\, Wisconsin. Singles from the debut album received airplay on Women of Substance online radio. \nA new EP album\, All The Way\, was released October 3\, 2015 to benefit the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network\, in memory of Kaia’s husband Scott R. Jaeger who died of pancreatic cancer at the age of 44 in July\, 2013. Samples of the album are available at soundcloud.com/kaiafowler. \nPETE JONSSON is a fine guitar player and singer with an interesting repertoire of Americana tunes. He was one of the members of the beloved trio Live Bait. Pete has made excellent use of his early retirement to submerge himself in his music. \nPlease call to reserve.

SUMMARY:THE SUITCASE JUNKET
DESCRIPTION:Don’t miss the amazing MATT LORENZ as the SUITCASE JUNKET. Vote early\, and relax with some extraordinary music before results are in. \nTHE SUITCASE JUNKET is a one-man tour de force out of Western Massachusetts. Matt has been road dogging for three years\, solo and with his band Rusty Belle\, touring with Chris Smithers\, David Wax Museum\, and Peter Mulvey.   \nRemember the first day you heard The Suitcase Junket…his songwriting is extraordinary… this is one of the most exciting records I’ve heard in years.” -Vin Scelsa of Idiot’s Delight on WFUV and Sirius/XM \n“Armed with vintage 1950s amps and a guitar he salvaged from a dumpster\, an old\, oversized suitcase he plays with his heel as a bass drum\, a baby shoe hitting a gas can\, a cook pot\, a circular saw blade and a box of bones and silverware for added percussion\, he let it rip! In my favorite session of the year\, The Suitcase Junket performs ‘Earth Apple’ from his latest album\, Make Time.” – Linda Fahey\, NPR’s Favorite Sessions of 2015 \nThe Suitcase Junket will release his Signature Sounds debut\, Dying Star\, on March 4th. The 7- song E.P. features five songs recorded during the making of Lorenz’s acclaimed 2015 album\, Make Time\, and two live tracks recorded at Northampton MA’s The Parlor Room. With Dying Star\, The Suitcase Junket is poised to make the jump from one of New England’s best-kept roots star secrets\, to a household name. \nArtist\, tinkerer\, tunesmith\, swamp Yankee\, Matt Lorenz is a one-man salvage specialist singing into the hollow of a Dumpster guitar\, slipping a broken bottleneck onto the slide finger\, railing on a box of twisted forks and bones\, rocking till every sound is ragged at its edges\, till the house is singing back. Then\, unplugging all the amps and letting one mountain ballad soar over the raw strings on that guitar. On top of all this is the ethereal edge of his overtone throat-singing. \nEvery night is a hard-driving\, blues-grinding\, throat-singing search-and-rescue junket. Sooner or later everything rusts\, busts\, and gets tossed into the junk heap: iron\, bones\, leather\, hot rods\, muskrats\, the night\, the heart. The goal is to recover it. To waste nothing. To create new ways from old. This is The Suitcase Junket. \nMatt Lorenz was raised in Cavendish\, Vermont\, the son of teachers. He learned to sing by copying his sister Kate. (The siblings are two-thirds of the touring trio Rusty Belle.) Lorenz graduated from Hampshire College in Amherst\, Massachusetts\, in 2004\, having taught himself to throat-sing thanks to a South Indian cooking class. On moving day\, he pulled his guitar\, filled with mold and worse for wear\, from a dorm Dumpster. He fixed it up and started pulling songs out of it. That was the beginning. \nThe Suitcase Junket is filling rooms and drawing festival crowds all over his native New England and beyond\, from Signal Kitchen near the Canadian border to Wisconsin’s Mile of Music Festival\, from Ireland’s pubs to Mountain Jam in the Catskills\, from opening nights for Lake Street Dive and Charlie Musselwhite to Mountain Stage in West Virginia. He caught the attention of National Public Radio who chose his video session for “Earth Apple” from his 2015 album Make Time as one of the year’s favorite sessions. \nMatt has self-released three albums prior to Dying Star: Sever and Lift (2009) and Knock It Down. (2011) and Make Time (2015). \n“Make Time truly travels to various destinations of musical fortitude and emotion[…]It’s one hell of a ride that holds its resonance well after the record has stopped spinning.” – No Depression. \n“If croons could kill\, this one-man band would be a bounty hunter. Armed with a unique\, self-sufficient approach to raw instrumentation\, The Suitcase Junket is an artisan of song\, bending\, forging and sharpening each piece into an emotional tool.” -Performer Magazine. \nPlease call to reserve.

SUMMARY:ERNIE HENDRICKSON
DESCRIPTION:Please call to reserve. \n“In today’s overly produced pop music market\, Ernie Hendrickson is a diamond in the rough; born of heart\, soul and grit.”\n– A. Owens www.4twk – international music \n“This inspiring artist defies categories by blending folk and country with rock and jazz”\n-Kim Wheeler\, Rockford Register Star  \n“Surely a cutting-edge singer/songwriter of tomorrow\, Ernie Hendrickson lives enough in the past to keep what Bob Dylan\, James Taylor and Kris Kristofferson have done alive and thriving for generations.”\n-Jim Hagerty\, Rock River Times  \n“His music easily justifies the mention of his name in the same context as\, dare-it-be-said\, genre power house Ryan Adams.”\nFady Khalil – Jambands.com \n“Dark and pretty songs. Ernie Hendrickson is finding a niche in the indie folk Americana segment. He is a storyteller like Harry Nilsson in a country mood.”\n– Hans Werksman\, Here Comes The Flood \n“Whether exploring tribal beats or graceful homegrown country hymnals\, E. Hendrickson stretches the song-writing pallet. He is drawing influences from Gram Parsons’ Burrito Brothers\, straight through the heart of the America’s Blues tradition.”\n– Martin Halo\, JamBase \nFor ERNIE HENDRICKSON\, the hill country is as much a state of mind as a physical locale\, as the deep but beautifully casual songs on his new One for the Dreamers eloquently remind us. In the hill country of Ernie’s imagination\, the high ground provides an elevated vantage point that enables his listeners to perceive how time can leave important matters unfinished\, or tie up loose ends with sometimes heartbreaking finality. Yet the hill country is\, of course\, a real place\, and where Ernie comes from. The Wisconsin native grew up in what’s called that state’s Driftless Area\, where Midwestern flatness gives way to a more rounded landscape\, so it’s natural that that he chose to record One for the Dreamers nestled among the neatly arranged hills of Middle Tennessee. \nRecorded at Lamplight Studios in rural Primm Springs\, Tenn.\, 2013’s One for the Dreamers was anchored by producer-drummer Chad Cromwell (Neil Young\, Mark Knopfler)\, songwriter-producer-bassist Kevin “Swine” Grantt (Brad Paisley\, Jamey Johnson\, Willie Nelson)\, and Pete Wasner (Vince Gill) on piano\, organ\, and wurlitzer. Special guests include legendary harmonica player Mickey Raphael (Willie Nelson\, Guy Clark)\, pianist Reese Wynans (Stevie Ray Vaughan\, Buddy Guy)\, and rising Americana singer-songwriter Lera Lynn on harmony vocals. \nThere’s a concordance of topography and emotion at work in the new record that comes out of Ernie’s life as a traveling musician and an intuitive record maker—Midwestern openness meets Nashville experience\, you could say. Like the great American singers and songwriters who have inspired him—performers such as Neil Young\, Jerry Garcia and Willie Nelson—Ernie seeks the light amidst the ever-present perils of darkness. \nBorn and raised in the Midwest\, Ernie Hendrickson grew up on a steady diet of Willie Nelson\, Bob Dylan\, Neil Young\, Cat Stevens\, and Jerry Garcia. These early heroes opened the gates to the deep well of American roots music which he continues to draw inspiration from. In 2007 he self-produced and released a highly acclaimed solo record\, Down the Road\, of which the Illinois Entertainer deemed “Groundbreaking” and pushed him straight onto the Midwest’s radar as an emerging singer-songwriter. Hendrickson set the talent bar high in the studio for this album with a cast of players that included the subtle and angelic backing vocals of his sister\, Kelly Hendrickson\, and the legendary harmonica player\, Howard Levy (Bela Fleck & The Flecktones\, Paul Simon)\, aligned with an all-star group of Chicago musicians. \nHendrickson’s second record\, Walking with Angels\, began with a chance meeting between Ernie and veteran producer Bo Ramsey (Greg Brown\, Lucinda Williams) in the spring of ’08 in Iowa City\, where Ernie was opening a show for an old friend of Bo’s\, Kevin Gordon. Even in early conversation\, the two agreed that there was a chemistry evolving that would only deepen once the sessions began. At Bo’s urging\, Ernie sang and played nearly all of the songs on the record with a live band which consisted of Bo\, Jon Penner on bass (Junior Brown\, Bo Ramsey)\, and Steve Hayes on drums (Greg Brown\, Bo Ramsey). This call was made by Bo to try and capture the energy of a great performance and the result could not have been better. All twelve songs on the record feel as though these four guys had been playing together for years. After adding legendary Chicago pedal steel player Brian Wilkie (Alison Krauss\, Pam Tillis) on several tracks\, Bob Black’s banjo (Bill Monroe)\, and taking a trip to Nashville to record keyboardist Kevin McKendree (Delbert McClinton)\, the record shines as a true testament to Hendrickson’s ripening powers as a songwriter. Radio promotion has taken the sophomore album’s success to a higher level on both AAA and Americana stations\, having spent over 25 weeks in the Top 20 on Roots Music Report’s Folk charts and in regular rotation at nearly 100 different stations across the country including Nashville’s award-winning WSM-AM The Legend. \n

SUMMARY:THE BRIAR PICKERS
DESCRIPTION:The Briar Pickers are a violin/mandolin duet consisting of mandolinist Brian Ray and fiddler Paul Kienitz\, melding traditional Appalachian folk melodies with classical chamber music sensibilities. \nThis conversational paradigm is the thread woven through the coupling of old-time ‘rustic’ properties with the intrinsic chamber music approach; being that of constructed or made in a plain and simple fashion and a small number of performers\, with one performer to a part. Resulting is their self-dubbed “rustic chamber music”…a collage of sounds evoking imagery and emotions that take the players and audience on a journey together to different times and places. \nThe duet is enchanced to a quartet with the addition of special guest Starr Moss (guitar) who has recently wrapped up a three year tenure with Chicago’s Henhouse Prowlers and the superlative Jon Peik on bass and banjo. \nPlease call to reserve.

SUMMARY:KIM RICHEY
DESCRIPTION:KIM RICHEY \n“[Kim Richey] would rule the charts in a land where Marshall Crenshaw was king\, Aimee Mann queen\, and the The Beatles never put out another record after Revolver.” Steve Horowitz\, popmatters.com \n“Richey entices you with sad and unembellished music that reveals an original spirit – and then she ensnares you for keeps by making you consider all the noiseless sensations that no songs can ever contain.” Timothy White\, Billboard Magazine \nThose artists who find themselves stuck in the deepest of ruts two decades into their careers could learn a thing or two from veteran singer-songwriter Kim Richey. She’s never been afraid to go where the inspiration is. \nTwo-time Grammy-nominated Kim is a storyteller; a weaver of emotions and a tugger of heartstrings. Tender\, poetic and aching with life’s truths\, Kim’s songs transport you to her world\, where words paint pictures and melodies touch the soul. And then there’s her voice. Pure\, arresting and honest\, it makes you take notice; Kim has the kind of voice where if emotions were ribbons\, they’d be streaming in rainbow colours from your iPod. \nEarly on\, the Zanesville\, Ohio native thrived on the progressive side of mainstream country\, her albums (1995’s Kim Richey\, 1997’s Bittersweet and 1999’s Glimmer\, all on Mercury) showcasing twang-pop sensibilities\, a rich\, rounded vocal tone and effortlessly sophisticated songwriting that other discerning performers – Radney Foster\, Trisha Yearwood and Pam Tillis to name a few – coveted for their own recordings. \nIn the years since\, Kim has made her subtly psychedelic album Rise (Lost Highway) in Los Angeles with producer Bill Bottrell\, flown to London to enlist the help of Giles Martin and emerging with the crisply orchestrated Chinese Boxes (Vanguard) and turned to her East Nashville-based bandleader and frequent co-writer Neilson Hubbard to conjure the earthy indie-pop feel of Wreck Your Wheels (Lojinx/Thirty Tigers) and to complete her latest masterpiece of smart\, sensual understatement Thorn In My Heart (Lojinx/Yep Roc). \nThe array of top-tier guests on the album include Jason Isbell\, Wilco’s Pat Sansone\, My Morning Jacket’s Carl Broemel\, Will Kimbrough and Yearwood\, who was\, for the first time\, returning the harmony-singing favor. And the dozen songs themselves show that Richey’s still dreaming up fetching melodies that arc and bend in unexpected ways\, and still discovering fresh angles from which to articulate matters of the heart. \nPlease call to reserve.

SUMMARY:PERRY BAIRD\, JEFF MASON\, and TOM COOK
DESCRIPTION:Fort Atkinson’s own Perry Baird\, Tom Cook (TC) and Jeff Mason will embark on their second performance together\, joined this time by Fort violinist Erica Flyte on a number of songs. Perry and Tom are officially retired from their former day jobs\, and Jeff is about half-way there. They are all getting a little long in the tooth and slow off the couch\, but their fingers are almost as nimble as ever. The boys will wind their way through traditional folk and fiddle tunes (this time with Erica actually providing fiddle) and whatever else they can remember. Perry and Jeff play guitar(s) and Perry does most of the singing. TC seems to be bringing a collection of (mostly) four and eight-stringed wooden instruments and will be making his second sojourn onto the Carpe stage\, with some tasty instrumentals promised. Quite honestly\, the whole thing is a work-in-progress and the old geezers are just as anxious as anyone else to hear what happens\, particularly with the addition of Erica’s sweet violin to the mix. \nThey’ll wind their way through a mix of contemporary and traditional folk\, pop\, and blues tunes\, plus a few novelties of highly suspect origin. \nPlease call to reserve.
