MARE EDSTROM & KENN FOX with special guest Dave Karnes/ Liz DeYoe

April 6, 2018 @ 8:30 pm - 11:00 pm

$10

This special “Women of the Blues” from the 1920’s to the 1970’s show will cover artists ranging from Ma Rainey and Geeshie Wiley to Janis Joplin and Bonnie Raitt.

MARE EDSTROM and KENN FOX  have been playing, teaching and researching the blues together for over 14 years; and Kenn has spent his entire life archiving 20th century music, especially its foundation in the blues. They have released six critically acclaimed blues albums on the Wisconsin-based Spiritone label. Mare has been the subject of many feature articles and has received consistent airplay, particularly throughout Europe, for her solo album work. Kenn has released eight solo fingerstyle albums as well as two albums with the Midwest Guitar Trio, and a current album with Celtic band Kellswater Bridge.

Mare and Kenn are passionate about sharing the lore of the blues in their current act, “The History of the Blues from 1920–1970.” Come and experience the magic of the music, the myth and the stories of the Mississippi Delta, and the surprising role Wisconsin played in the early development of the blues.

Edstrom possesses a strong voice that can float over a quiet arrangement or deliver a powerful statement backed by a hard-charging band. Her classical training is evident as Mare easily slides throughout her vocal register, each note delivered cleanly and perfectly executed.”- Blues Blast Magazine
